If Stafford QB’d our 2018 do we win that SB?

I say yes.
Agreed. I would in fact even say that if Goff had Kupp we win that Super Bowl. No way the Pats could shut that offense down with Kupp out there.

But then again I look at Super Bowl victories from a team perspective. With the right team many QBs could be Champs. Nice thing about Stafford is we will be able to do it with quite a bit less than what Goff would require.

Hahahaha. Makes you wonder. I don't know that there's a conspiracy theory. Goff seems limited from being a good QB by the mental side of things. McVay schemed up a great offense for him (with a superstar RB that made everything easier) but teams caught up, McVay expected Goff to evolve and he couldn't on the mental side of things.

Nothing ever changed with Goff. But that's the problem. The guy has not grown much or at all as a QB.

I actually think it's why we fight so much. With a QB that hasn't grown in the NFL, people that like him just see the same old stuff they liked. People who don't like him see all the same old stuff that they didn't like.

He's the same QB.

Now I do feel bad for those still invested in Goff. He's on a bad team with no receivers, the one's he has aren't always running the right route and he's regressing to the point where he's drifting back in the pocket again (something McVay and he fixed in 2017) which basically destroys your olines blocking.

Could Jared have gone on to have success after the Rams, I'm not so sure. But he's guaranteed to be broken in Detroit.

He's gone and the big story is 'the Rams are facing Goff'. Maybe the bigger story is 'Stafford is facing the Lions'? Goff enjoyed great success with the Rams. Stafford not so much in Detroit. Goff was 'the' Rams QB for a little more than 4 years. Stafford was 'the' Lions QB for a dozen. From a fan's perspective this is a chance to rub Goff's nose in the dirt. Maybe from a players perspective, this is a chance for Stafford to rub Detroit's nose in the dirt! Or maybe it's just another notch in his belt?

The worst attribute of Goff is his inability to go through progressions. Locking onto a first read, or not seeing wide open WRs is a death sentence in the NFL. It has nothing to do with arm talent, it's all cerebral. If we can limit his first read next week we should be in great shape.

Now lets contrast Goff's game with that of our new QB, and his excellence at going through progressions and ability to make big time throws to his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th reads.

Not sure how they know what the "first read" is, considering Stafford is almost always using his eyes to move defenders. Those aren't necessarily reads, but are more often head fakes.

DETROIT -- An emotional Dan Campbell shed tears after last week's heartbreaking loss in Minnesota. But on Sunday in Detroit, the first-year Lions coach was visibly angry when they fell at home to Cincinnati, 34-11.

Detroit's energy and effort is what upset him the most, as they were never in a position to win. Campbell also issued a challenge to his starting quarterback Jared Goff.

"I will say this," Campbell said. "I feel like he has to step up more than he has and I think he needs to help us, just like everybody else. He's gonna need to put a little bit of weight on his shoulders here and it's time to step up, make some throws and do some things, but he needs help."

Goff certainly didn't have his best game versus the Bengals, passing for just 38 yards in the first half. They have now gone four consecutive games without posting a first-half touchdown, which last happened in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers.

Goff finished having completed 28 of 42 passes for 202 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. There were light boos coming from Lions fans inside Ford Field, directed at Goff and the offense while being shutout for three quarters.

"I feel their frustration," Goff said. "These fans here deserve a lot better than what we've been giving them. It's our job to do that and there's frustrated people everywhere right now."

The Lions are the last winless team in the league. It's their first 0-6 start since the infamous 2008 season, when they finished 0-16. With the Jacksonville Jaguars winning Sunday, Detroit now has the longest active losing streak in the NFL at 10 games dating to last season. They're desperately seeking a victory and are willing to make the necessary changes to do so, including shuffling the roster.

"I mean, this is a cutthroat league. That happens all throughout the league, no matter what. People get traded. People get cut. People get benched," Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone said. "That's up to upstairs, [Lions executive vice president and general manager] Brad [Holmes] and Dan to make those decisions.

"All you can do is just focus on yourself, what you can do, like I said, look in the mirror and get better every day," he added. "As a team, we don't listen to the outside noise. Whoever we go on the field with, it's what we're riding with, and that's what we're going to do."

"Up and down" is the assessment that Goff offered of himself when describing his play through six games.

"I mean, there's been good, there's been bad, there's been stuff to work on," Goff said. "It's kind of always that way when you look at yourself and when you're critical of yourself. Like I said, everyone's got their things that they're working on and I'm no different."

Entering next week's game against former Lions star Matthew Stafford and the red-hot Los Angeles Rams, Campbell says he'll be looking at himself in the mirror to make changes. Those changes won't involve benching Goff, though, at least for now.

"No. Now, that doesn't mean that something won't ever come up," Campbell said of considering a change at quarterback. "I'm gonna look at everything, but, look, this was a collective effort offensively. You can't blame one person there. I know maybe you think it's easy to just throw it out and for me to blame it on myself, but look, they heard plenty from me in there, but the bottom line that's the truth. I didn't help them prepare for this game properly or help our coaches help them prepare properly."

The way I see it, Goff's ceiling wasn't a high as they expected. They were wrong but like a good organization they corrected it. Now they're back to being a legit championship contender. Goff is gone now. He means nothing to me except that he's an ex Ram and I usually wish them well except when they play us.

Goff got paid and got a nice piece of tail, that appears to be all he ever really cared about!

I want to state again for the record....I ALWAYS supported Goff while he was a Ram. I have the useless ass jersey to prove it. I was stunned and honestly distraught when I first heard the trade details.

HOWEVER, I am 100% a RAMS fan first. Therefore I am 100% a Stafford homer while he is here.

There is 100% chance that some on here will actively root for Jared and the Lions to beat Stafford and the RAMS.

There is 100% chance that those people are not true Rams fans......

And that is your Ramuweather forecast for this weekend.

Really though? 100% that "some on here" root for the Rams to lose this game? Because Goff?

Speaking only for myself, but most of the defending of Goff has been purely in reaction to the over the top hate he received (receives) while being a successful QB for us.
That's what has motivated the back and forth batching and finger pointing.

Most people here have been here since before Goff was a Ram and before the Rams played in Los Angeles again. If they were here through those times, they are legitimate Rams fans and deserve the basic level of trust that goes with it (they want the Rams to win!!!)

Maybe there is ONE screwed up in the head asshole who secretly wants the Rams to lose to Goff so they can, (I'm guessing?) have the last laugh in silent obscurity? Im sorry, I struggle with this conspiracy theory. There is no "Us Vs. Them" cause du jour to rally behind. Stafford supporters are not persecuted or even harassed as we're all Stafford supporters. He's the QB for our team. Period.
Do some go out of their way to be his biggest cheerleaders? Sure. Do others think he's only an upgrade to Goff but are not yet convinced he's the Rams next Kurt Warner and still want to see him play well in a playoff game before they are 100% sold? Probably so. But there is a bit of a crowbar separation between wanting other people on this board to be wrong and actively hoping that the Rams lose.

In a perfect world for me, the Rams beat the Lions in a fun and exciting game (because I'll be at SOFI!) and Goff plays well (because I like him, he was our QB, won us the NFC championship and never disrespected our team) but not as well as Stafford.
Stafford is not only the better QB, he has over twice the experience, a much better O-line protecting him and much better weapons to throw to. So he not only IS better, he SHOULD be better and for what we gave up, he fucking ought to be!

I would LOVE to see Goff blow out the 49ers or the Seahawks or pretty much anyone other team and make his haters have to admit that he played well. That would be fun. But any true Rams fan would want Goff to lose to us this Sunday. Period. If we are going to accuse some members of wanting Goff to win based on gut feelings..... that seems perilously identical to accusing members of not being "real Rams fans" and basing it on nothing.

@badnews I hope you have an amazing time this weekend at the game. I am jelly as I am on the east coast and will need to plan a whole thing to get to one of these games....but I am DEFINITELY getting out there for at least one soon.

I will just say that I have read enough from certain members to have formed the opinion that they reeeaaaallly carry a torch on this topic. it has (IMO) gotten to the point where I do honestly feel that they will root for Jared to outplay Stafford at the very least. Hell, we had one member quit the damn board over that trade. That was fucking stupid and she was never a real fan to begin with. Shame really. I hope I am wrong, but I guess it really doesn't matter in the scheme of things, just seems weird to me.

Be safe and take pics and vids for all of us who need to live vicariously through you all who are attending the home games!!

I think so yeah. His fall from 2018 was far enough that it was warranted. Happened to Warner in fact.

NFL is about making plays. Once you quit doing that or once the league finds your weaknesses you either fix it or you rock out of the league. At least in Jared's case he had a nice stretch and got paid and has a stunning lady to show for it.

As with you I too can only speak for myself, but I 100% agree with the above, I could elaborate further but at the end of the day, there’s no need, Stafford’s our QB and doing great
