Cameron Dicker Punting Stats:
But don't a lot of teams use their back up QB as the holder? The problem with a new punter is he must be a FG holder. Dixon is such. Most (maybe all) of the draftee punters were not FG holders. This is MUCH more important to a game than punting. Give me a sure holder who is a decent punter over a great punter who is learning to hold kicks. At least for a great team like the Rams. Crappy team/offense who punts a lot - different story.
I don't think that has been the case for some time. Pretty much always the punter now.But don't a lot of teams use their back up QB as the holder?
Yes that’s correct. But one of the few teams that do not is……The Rams. Hence the problem. But don't a lot of teams use their back up QB as the holder?
fella named Jamel Pettigrew might dispute this, has size on his side..
This is some of the best news I've heard all offseason.Roger Carter H-Back: Will McVay ever employ an H-Back type? Well, if he does, Roger Carter fits the bill. Carter was interviewed by the Rams, blocks well and has good hands, so maybe Carter offers the Rams something different and can block on goal line plays & short yardage to improve that area of the running game.
Blanton is a free agent next year. Draft a year ahead of need or in this case a UDFA and you have Pettigrew making the team. Just a thought. He (Pettigrew) may have the length & size of a more traditional TE, but I'm not so sure that's what we need with Higbee, Blanton & Hopkins already available. Carter at 6'2", 256lbs. is a blocking specialist and a load in his own right, and when called upon has soft hands and excellent receiving skills.
Alaric Jackson was THE guy last year that the Rams initiated contact with prior to taking him as a UDFA, this season the Rams have shown a similar pursuit of Carter, I'm guessing there is good reason for it. Mundt was smaller at 233lbs., but in a more traditional TE vein, and his blocking was inconsistent which likely impacted his future here, where this is Roger Carter's forte.
Still, I could see Jamal Pettigrew on our Practice Squad while Carter makes the 53.
