In a perfect world, we make a big trade for a young impact star that we’ll have for several years (ala Jalen). But the lack of a #1 pick in 2023 pretty much impedes that scenario.

I’m leaning toward the plan of getting a vet, bruising type RB for a 6th round pick. D Johnson or freeman type. Guys who are FAs next year. Those guys won’t be getting more than a 7th comp pick return being journey man RBs in the modern NFL.
Then get Jerry Hughes or someone like that - 5th and 7th maybe.

Small moves that won’t hurt cap next year; nor be big hits to draft picks.

My feeling is that no one is going anywhere as too many teams think they have a solid path forward in the future.

I don’t see Cleveland being a player for anyone although there’s a chance with D’Ernest Johnson or Hunt and the Broncos with Chubb…

I think it’s a sellers market and I don’t think the players who want to trade want to pay the exorbitant prices… I still can’t believe Carolina refused 2 1sts, but with the state of their division going forward, it may pay dividends. Denver probably wants way more than Chubb would get in comp picks and since the shelves are bare, prices are sky high.

Because of that. I could see us doing nothing and just going with what we have.

Would I rather have Chubb and Johnson at reasonable rates? Yes, no question, but literally nothing about this season has been reasonable

The NFL is so much fun.

A number of teams were aggressive in the off-season (following the strategy and success of the Bucs in 2020, and the Rams in 2021); and the Broncos are at the top of that list.

At 2-5, Denver is tied for the worst-record in the AFC. There are eight AFC teams with a winning record; and only seven can make the playoffs. By comparison, there are only five teams in the NFC with a winning record, and that includes the Giants and Seahawks.

If Broncos' Management concludes that, while they are committed to Wilson for the next 2-4 seasons, this year is not their year; and they should try to re-coup some top-100 picks for Brandon Chubb. I like the player but would hate to see the Rams give-up a another second round pick for a another player that will be a free agent after the season.

Weirdness of 2022 season has complicated trade market for Rams

There seem to be more “buyers” rather than “sellers” this year in the NFL

If I had to use a single word to describe the NFL in 2022, the first thing that comes to mind is “weird”.

It’s weird that the New York Giants possess one of the best records in football at 6-1. Also in the NFC East, The Philadelphia Eagles have taken a major step forward and seem like the best overall team in the league. The Dallas Cowboys should have been out of contention when star QB Dak Prescott went down with an injury in Week 1, but Cooper Rush kept them afloat with a 4-1 record during his replacement stint.

Teams that were expected to contend for the top stop in the NFC are middling and clinging to relevancy - including the Los Angeles Rams.

Last year’s Super Bowl winners have limped to a 3-3 record, and their Week 7 bye seems to have come at just the right time. They face a showdown this week against the San Francisco 49ers that will tell us exactly who they are.

The Green Bay Packers lack offensive firepower - and Aaron Rodgers is growing more frustrated by the week. The Green Bay defense was supposed to be good enough to keep them in games while the offense worked through its growing pains, but they just seem like a mess at 3-4.

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be a lot better than they are right now (also at 3-4), and there’s no one weakness you can really point to as to why the Bucs are struggling. They don’t have a catastrophic failure on the offensive line like the Rams or a lack of talent in the receiving corps like the Packers. Tampa Bay’s roster is filled with players who have shown better production in the past than what they are getting out of them right now, but for how long will that continue?

The AFC conference is just as hotly competitive, even despite slower than expected starts from teams like the Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and others.

There are very few teams that seem unfit to compete in 2022, aside from maybe the tanking Carolina Panthers and the outright bad Houston Texans. Even the 1-5 Detroit Lions have the overall talent to make things interesting at some point this year, and they will be dangerous out of the gates in 2023.

It’s just weird that seven weeks in we still aren’t sure who’s good and who’s not - and even teams with losing records are only a couple games back from first place and feel they can turn things around this year.

And that complicates the trade market for the middling or good teams who feel a star player could put them over the top - which is where the Rams find themselves.

LA planned even as far back as this offseason to be active at the trade deadline in order to supplement their pass rush next to Aaron Donald and opposite Leonard Floyd, but they probably did not expect to find their options so limited.

If the Panthers and Texans are the only teams truly out of contention, then the realistic pass rushers in the Rams’ sights were probably Brian Burns and Jonathan Greenard. But Houston recently placed Greenard on IR with an ankle injury, and Carolina reportedly rejected an offer of two first round draft picks in exchange for Burns.

Los Angeles could turn their focus to someone like Bradley Chubb, who’s a free agent on a Broncos team that is devoid of draft capital and salary cap space after making a heavy investment in their struggling quarterback, Russell Wilson. Denver has a breadth of younger pass rushers, so Chubb is somewhat expendable - but as a player Chubb is a step down from the pass rushing prowess of someone like Burns.

As the Rams look down the gauntlet of the signal callers they’ll face over the second half of the season - Tom Brady, Kyler Murray, Patrick Mahomes, Geno Smith (twice), Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Justin Herbert - they probably feel pressure to make a move.

The question is where do you turn when the weirdness and parity of the NFL in 2022 hasn’t created a bottom tier of teams ready to sell off their assets and turn towards the future. As a result, the Rams face a complicated trade market and could find it difficult to find a partner.

If LA is compelled to improve over the second half of the season, the pressure on general manager Les Snead is immense and building. Will he be able to make a move?
I did mention earlier that the parity was a bad thing cuz it breeds hope for teams which equates to them holding on to players they would have otherwise traded if they were cratering. Guess someone agrees with me? Lol

A very good reason NOT to trade future draft picks (high ones) for 1 year rentals. We've been decimated by injuries, had a very slow start offensively and we're still in the thick of things.

That right there is the million dollar question. How reasonable will teams be in trading away players? If they are trying to ask for the moon, then yes, we will stand pat. There aren't many options out there and it's possible the Rams miscalculated that part of the equation being the case. Parity is keeping us right in the middle of the playoff hunt, but may prevent us from strengthening parts of our team for a deep playoff run if we make the dance.

Now that it seems RB's have been devalued throughout the NFL ( don't tell the niners) what is a offer that the Browns would demand for Hunt or the Bears take for Montgomery ?

Reality is any team, organization, or company, etc...need both a short term & long term strategy.

While yes, they need to make this yrs team as competitive as possible, you can't carelessly destroy your future.

And I find it funny that the very fans pushing to trade every pick possible and blowing up the cap in the process, will be the first to call for the heads of management and the head coach when they go 7-10 or worse, when the cupboard is bare and the cap is bogged down with dead money.

Yeah, but no one was doing the math that would have a 2-5 Panthers team only a game out of 1st in their division and turning down 2 1sts plus for Brian Burns…

Or that our 2nd and 3rd this year, 4th and 5th next year and Cam Akers wouldn’t be enough for oft injured CMC…

Or that Russell Wilson would shit the bed THIS HARD…

Or that this season would be better told as a Black Mirror episode…

So I dunno… did anyone miscalculate? Or has this season been so strange as to be beyond mortal comprehension???

I'm not surprised by that. Lot of owners just watched a Rams team become a Super Bowl winning unit after the addition of Von and Odell. So right now there's a lot of wannabes who think they can be the Rams.

I figured this season's trade deadline would have more competition for the edge types and weapons for that reason. It's a copycat league.

What the Rams need to do is flip the script. Trade for a quality goddamn RB. Nobody is looking at RBs right now, it's all pass pass pass because we won it all with zero run game. So take advantage and fix that dysfunctional phase of your offense.

As to edge just get through this season without giving up that round 2 pick and then you can move up in the draft and hopefully find one that can help you. So a Fowler type. If one is out there which I am not sure of. We do get our rook back soon I'd hope. Maybe he can show us something idk. It's ugly but the Rams may have to think ahead a bit when it comes to this trade window.

You sir are misunderstanding me lol....Yes the Rams miscalculated but it's not their fault they did as so did so many experts, pundits, fans, etc. It happens to the best of them. You are right that this is a weird ass season. The Giants only have 1 loss. If anyone bet that prop, if there was one, they'd be rich as hell hahaha. Things just haven't broke the way the Rams anticipated and it is hurting (trade prospects thin) and helping us (still in the playoff hunt) at the same time.
