Would have been happy if he came back, but to put winning the SB on his shoulders is just silly.
If Robert Woods & OBJ dont get hurt, they put 40+ on Cincy and win easy
If Higbee doesnt get hurt, the run game is more effective and he opens up outside routes thus winning the SB easy
And so on, and so on......
It's just silly to remove one variable and project the outcome.
Fact is, Von was a bit of a disappointment during regular season and IIRC, didnt make impact until 2nd half of NFC Champ game
The Rams had the #1 defense without him in 2020 and werent playing like it all season until the playoffs. Remember all the "Morris has to go" talk??
Von isnt what got the D going, he was part of the equation
And now its a different equation because with Wagner, the D will have a different look

That was sarcasm. If you read my entire posts on this subject, that much would be crystal clear. Sorry I don't use blue font.
You might then expect that people won't know it is sarcasm. Blue font is easy and pretty well known as to what it indicates. Up to you but it would seem clarity is worth the small amount of effort.

The Great Unknown is the Rams 2022 blindside rush. It's just as much about pressure as it is about sacks. The pressures were lacking until Miller really got going. The sack numbers weren't bad but, the pressures were inconsistent. Hollins, TLew, and Garrett are still question marks. They might be able to get enough pressure with the help of LBers Bwags and Jones. We just don't know but, we can be hopefull.

This is why I wanted the Rams to sign Clowney to pair with AD. This year he wasn't in the top 10 run rate win but, usually is very good against the run. They would be a great one-two punch with Floyd pressuring the other Edge and Gaines getting the big push up the middle......AD with a 26% and Clowney with a 24% win rate!!!

My blue font doesn't work :( ....... The options I have to do anything to the font are greyed out. How will I ever live? Lol

Look at the Ram's roster and cap situation.

They need to make a roster move to clear cap to sign or trade for an edge. As I've said repeatedly, the easiest way to clear cap for an edge is to trade or release Rob Havenstein. Trading him is the best way to go as it clears a lot more money. He's just going to playout his last year anyway. Trade him to the Chargers who need a RT.

Playing the comp pick game is fine but this is an exception. The fact is they will be hard-pressed to clear cap space with just AD's contract alone. They will be hard-pressed just to hold the line at $26.7M this year and still give him new money on top of that. They need to extend A'Shawn and they can clear a few million that way. If AD retires after this year they will need A'Shawn to play 1T with Gaines taking over at 3T. He was the primary rotation with AD last year. If Carberry thinks Jackson will be ready to play RT then Havenstein is the next roster move they need to look at. With AD probably going to retire within two years another bookend edge is a priority. A player like that is worth more than one more year of Havenstein if Jackson looks ready.

What happens with AD is the lynchpin for the roster right now. IMO he will play this year as he wouldn't leave the team with a huge dead cap with no forewarning. He wouldn't do that to his teammates. But it wouldn't surprise me if he simply plays out this year and retires next year.

So AD is willing to walk away from $47M for 2023 & 2024 combined? For a man with kids that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I could see the Rams adding $16.3M new money and fully guaranteeing the contract if he commits to playing through 2023. That would make it a fully guaranteed $90M 3 year contract. That would leave them with over $30M dead cap but it still would be manageable over two years.

If the Rams are still in their "all in" mode then a trade for an edge is still on the books. This time though they need one they can put under more than a one-year rental.

So Bonifay’d,my question to you is how many of these players will The Rams keep number wise at the OLB position?
The other question for all those that wanted to bag(still?) on Raheem Morris. What about the injury there in 2021,a long with the depth.

IMO the number is going to be low as far as rotations. I think the FSU udrfa, , plus DH who was a 7th pick will make the team because of special teams & easy to rotate to the practice squad if needed & develop.

The talent & depth is there, but I’ll never doubt a player fighting for a roster spot.

Hollins will be like that D. Fowler on the ROLB spot.He is a staple & going hard against Joesph Noteboom.
Right now CG48 is LOLB. Basically Floyd’s spot, but Leonard Floyd IMO will have a career season & be hard to get off the field. He will be a 3-down player, at least to what Raheem Morris feels fit.
Thad might be the guy who helps with there sets? The coaching staff stays in tune.

Well I think figure that out Isn’t that tough. Just play colored blind. Even his Black font matters the same. We know who he is. I never use blue & no one takes me seriously.
I had not thought of it that way. Good Point!

I greatly enjoy reading your opinions, Oldnotdead. I really do.

But your obsession with trading away Hav just makes no sense. Rams are not gonna offload a top producing vet on a bargain contract in a SB window year. Fuhgedaboutit!

They’re always looking to ACQUIRE such players, man.

Snead will have to find his cap relief elsewhere if he even still wants an edge vet anymore. I’m wondering if he is even still trying hard to bring one in. Maybe a blockbuster move like Quinn would interest him?

Snead might just prefer to wait and see what he’s already got and pounce at trade deadline if he doesn’t like what he sees with his current crew.

I guess his back is better as he had 18 sacks in 2021. Good for Robert who is one of my all-time favorite Ram players. I highly doubt the Rams want his contract.

Got it.

In my defense when posting on my smart phone it's difficult to highlight. On a pc....piece of cake. Won't happen again.

Doesn’t that just prove the point of how valuable he was?

They were able to win *without* their starting TE and WR.. because they had a hellacious defense.

Also.. it’s about much more than just the Super Bowl.. the Rams won three one-possession games in a row.. And he made big plays in all of them. In addition to being the Rams best edge rusher by a good margin.. He’s much better than anyone on the roster, other than Floyd, against the run. He was a beast.

He and Donald combined for 7 pressures against the 9ers… 18 against the Bucs.

He was a difference-maker for the defense.

Does that mean they can’t find ways this season to make up for his loss? Nope.

But it won’t be that easy.

I think I’d love to have The Mighty Quinn back and it makes sense. However he does better on a 4-3 as a true DE not how we changed ourselves up his final year with us.

That said, he was in a 3/4 last year so think maybe he’s crossed over with experience to work in any system?

I’d bet he’d be better than Hollins/Lewis.

Ps @El Chapo Jr It’s an option on your chat menu when your typing. I can’t remember which one now it’s been so long.

I think fans bought into the hype when the Rams got him and once they won the SB, they couldn't have done it without him. He was good and came up big a couple times. He WAS NOT "the difference". But it does give some fans something to talk/worry about.

Have to respectfully but strongly disagree with some of these assessments on Von Miller.

I don't watch much live sports in the Spring and Summer. Aside from the nice weather, analytics and the pace of the game have made baseball unwatchable for me; and, the way the NBA game is played and the manner in which teams are built does not entertain me.

Instead, I re-watch entire Rams' games that I taped; and, because I almost have the game-play memorized, I focus on specific players. Beginning with the second Arizona game, Miller was outstanding. His run-defense was off-the-charts; and he averaged a sack-per-game over the final month of the Regular Season and Playoffs. Unlike most edge-rushers, Miller was terrific on stunts inside that created tremendous pressure and opportunities for other rushers.

What's done-is-done. Miller's gone, and his signing with Buffalo may have opened the door for the signings of Robinson and/or Wagner. However, when I re-watch the Rams' final eight wins (which I may do too often), I see Von Miller playing at a dominant-level, and providing a major impact on the Rams' run to a Lombardi.

And how does it benefit Stafford or the offensive line to lose both Whitworth and Havenstein in the same offseason.

I will say I'd love another Von type but Tak McKinnely (spelling) is 26 and still out there the dude has talent and could be very very effective with AD Flo and the rest might be cheap as dirt.

Although I do get the feeling Quinn will be the guy.
