this guy isn't like other dts. he's so much better, he rushes like a de from the middle which screws qbs so much more. he will be the highest paid defensive player and the rams will pay him.

.
THIS!

Pitt offered that to bell but bell didn't sign it (rightfully so) .So what I'm saying is that bell is going to get 17-18 million per year from somebody

That offer was crap in that in only had $10M in guarantees.

Pitt and a few other places simply refuse to pay guarantees. Even Big Ben in his prime didn't get them.

Bell is gonna hit the FA market because that's the culture of the Pitt FO.

Congrats to Todd and his family. Well deserved pay day, and I love that the Rams got it done now vice later.

Honestly, wrt to just the 2017 season, he was #1 on the roster in terms of contributions to winning. IMO he edged out even Donald in that regard. His fit with McVay and ability to continue to develop in the passing game in this offense is outstanding and we haven't necessarily seen his best and most consistent ball yet.

If things go according to plan, Goff will be super elite here real soon. But I gotta say it feels great to see them lock up another critical key piece towards making that happen. Don't want to get into Donald here, as we cover his contract well enough in a billion other threads, but hopefully we'll see him and Jared as the final two "big" contracts around which they'll build this team.

Oh and last but not least, don't be surprised if they extend Havenstein soon. I think signing him now would be very, very shrewd.

He was the Offensive player of the year !!

I don’t know what elite means then?

I’ll also add rookie of the year as well to his career. Still has only been to one playoff game though.

I like the timing of the Gurley extension. A day before TC to boost interest in the team. With the success the Rams had last season and all the off season moves getting good players I bet TC is going to have a lot more people this year.
That was going to happen anyway!! The Rams are a playoff team now & just signed 4 allpro players in Suh,Cooks,Talib, & Peters!!

I don’t know how the signing of Todd Gurley changes that much , except he is under contract for 4 more years. He is not the biggest draw.

Good timing though of his signing. It’s all about football , plus it keeps his head straight. Talking about striking & guaranteed money makes this signing so good.
I will have to add it helps keep the distractions of AD a little more chill imo.

Cooks signing was huge as well. It keeps the Offensive parts intacted.

It's crazy smart to do this. They don't know what the CBA is gonna yield so having someone like Gurley who is starting to be outspoken under long term contract removes any drama.

He's gonna bet paid at a level commensurate with his contribution with the discount for the position (2k yards from a WR is paid much more than the same production from a RB).

What's ingenious is that they are having him play out his rookie deal and simply appending a what is now an above market deal to the end of his rookie deal with guarantees so he has a reason to sign now. After two full seasons, that deal may look like a complete steal, especially if the NFL finds better ways to monetize streams and offers more catered and direct online viewing packages to recover lost revenues from those who would pay for a la carte viewing and/or team oriented streams/cable packages.

People eschewed albums as Steve Jobs recognized and it's what fueled file sharing services early on like Napster.

If the NFL goes iTunes with it's offerings, they'll actually see massive revenue increases in the long term and deals like we're seeing now will seem affordable much like the Robert Woods deal looks like a freaking STEAL now.

We have young players who are crushing. We have a boy genius HC who's crushing. We now have an FO that's just crushing and that new stadium is gonna be a mecca for Rams fans and the league, methinks.

The stars are really lining up not in an accidental cosmic way, but more in a way where mindfulness meets serendipity....luck favoring the prepared and all that.

This signing is another yellow brick on the road to Oz...where the Lombardi rests. Y'all didn't know that, did ya?

Amazing news. Gurley is here for the long haul.

Is there a team with a better history of RBs? Dickerson, Faulk, Jackson and now Gurley.

They also just talked about it on Training Camp Live on NFL Network. Rams have THE most $$$ to spend in the 2019-2021 seasons, even after the Cooks and Gurley deals. We are in good shape Peeps. between now and then, we can still lock up Goff, Donald and Peters. ... but the rest of our additions will have to be good drafting to fill positional depths.

Yep, I think they're trying to sign as many core folks as possible so that they can know EXACTLY how much they can front load this deal.

And they are gonna front load the crap out of it, bank on it.

What worries me is that Seattle desperately needs run production and I could see them paying top dollar to being Bell to Seattle.

They should have more than enough room with the trades and retirements, too.

It'd be a good fit scheme-wise, although if they don't fix that OL, Earl Campbell couldn't get yards in that offense...

Not a fan of signing RB’s to big money but this is an excellent deal for the franchise. It’s really an excellent deal, considering the rising costs each year and how good all around Gurley is.

$15 per in a few years would be equal to about $12 million today. That’s a bargain.

It’s like Gurley have the Rams the hometown discount.

I could only see Bell in Seattle if Petey is gone after this year. They just drafted their guy very high this year.

Weeeelllll, maybe.

Thing is that we don't know if RB is gonna go the way of the Safety in that even HoFers in their prime aren't being paid (looking squarely at Earl Thomas).

If the analytics of the world take over and they find enough correlation between decent drafting of rookies and using a RB by Committee approach and NEVER paying 2nd contracts, then Gurley could be among the LAST of the big contracts at RB with maybe Bell next year and Zeke next year getting deals and Alvin Kamara looking over like..."dang".

Or... the RBs really show up and the market takes off and the contract is a steal for the Rams.

The point is that the Rams committed to Gurley at a price just above the current market rate for the top RB.

Whether that proves to be a genius move or not will depend on how RBs perform, how teams evaluate paying that position and what the CBA looks like in a few years.

Still, I'm happy we're paying him. I think he's the first HoF caliber RB we've paid that we drafted. Steven Jackson was a Pro Bowl caliber player, but not HoF (least not on those bad Rams teams, beast as he was). We traded away Bettis and Dickerson.

So this feels good to know that some other team won't be getting the best veteran years of a HoF player we drafted (well, Bettis. Dickerson wasn't really the same without John Robinson)

That always felt crappy.

He took a guaranteed $45 million years early in exchange for probably being slightly underpaid years from now. If he's not foolish, his grandkids have their college educations paid for, maybe with down payments to start their own businesses or towards their first homes.

I always think of paying their way through dental school or the like, and money to buy into an existing dental practice - so that if they work hard they will be well taken care of.

Wonder if there is going to be a "no hurdling" clause in the contract. :cautious:
