Detroit obviously thinks highly of Brockers. They cut Danny Shelton and saved 4 mil after 1.25 mil dead money hit. Now they're paying Brockers 6.5 mil this year (and 7.5 mil for next year if they keep him).

Good player, good person, good leader. He will be missed. It feels like he has been around forever, but he is only 30 years old, and a very late birthday to boot (December 21st). He was extremely versatile too, capable of playing multiple positions, which is always one my most valued qualities in an offensive or defensive lineman given how important the trenches are and how many injuries occur at those positions. He had a huge resurgence under Staley last year, as well. To me, that showed in the right system, he still had a few very productive years left.

We probably cut bait at the right time. His best years will likely be behind him sooner rather than later. And I understand why we did it - we need to clear cap space, and we have some depth there. But losing Brock for what seems likely to be almost nothing is what bothers me. His contract wasn't egregious. I think he is a player that still has tangible value. But because of the Rams' poor cap management, this is the position we are in, dealing a useful player for pennies on the dollar, and the contract we are shedding is hardly an albatross. Let this be further evidence that the huge contracts blowing up in our face need to STOP. If they don't someone needs to be shown the door. Austin, Ogletree, Goff, Gurley, Cooks. Some of those made sense. Others less so. Some were spoiled by poor luck with injuries. But it can't go on like this without consequence.

I hate it, but it is what it is. I think Detroit takes the full freight here, his roster bonus hits tomorrow. If I'm reading correctly, there's no dead money so it should be saving 8 mill

Hate to break it to you Chief, but every team has cut or traded an overpriced vet player. That is the reality of the league.

I’m not expecting much in terms of compensation. 7th that could turn into a 6th kind of thing.

Would like to see how the negotiations went but that will never happen.

I see the tweet saying the Rams asked him to adjust not take a pay cut. Not being able to get that done does not sound like “we not me”.

If that’s the case, C-ya have fun in that wasteland.

I wish we were in cahoots with a more talented team for these transactions, but maybe trading ponies with Holmes will be of greater benefit down the road.

So they can complain later that we havent invested properly in the o-line, or the linebackers, or that we shouldnt have let Johnson go.....
Sometimes complaints are valid. Being weak at center has been a problem for a couple of seasons and we have a right to complain as to how little the Rams seem to care about that...

There are plenty of people around the league that think the Rams are showing people how to get it done.

I’ll take how things have been run over the last 5 years anytime over the shit show that Georgia ran.

Yep, but you cant look to add a 3rd WR making 16-20 mill and complain about not making improvements elsewhere

If it were just moving money around, he'd still be here. They had to have asked him to take a pay cut.

Big Brock has been a rock for us for a long time. We got more than our money's worth from him. Especially this last year when he had failed his physical trying to sign with the crows. I wonder if our decision makers think he has a higher risk for injury now that he's getting up there in years of playing in the trenches of the NFL.

Hopefully he can last a bit longer for that team in the Dirty D... but that turf in that shit hole has taken out a multitude of players.

I like how you made this bold because you know most people aren't gonna read your post but still want people to see the part that will piss them off. Top tier stuff.

Interesting situation. The Rams welcomed Brockers back after he almost left to go to Baltimore. Now, a year later, it sounds like he was the lone holdout among a group of veterans asked to help out by restructuring.

I’ve always been a fan of Brockers, but from a loyalty/“we not me” standpoint, I don’t think he holds the high ground.

I wish him well, and hope we put the savings to good use.
