Look at the bright side, at least we didn't have to give them a draft pick to take his salary off our hands like we did with Goff. This move helps us now as we are trying to win now.

Or like we did with Talib also.

This move sucks but it is a salary dump pure and simple which makes sense. The covid salary cap is a real bummer as this probably doesn't happen if not. Some people are furious about it but it is what it is in this screwed up year. Just be glad we didn't have to dump half our roster like the Saints did. Personally, I'm impressed by how well they've been able to weather this salary cap storm so far.

Wow. I feel like a seventh round pick two years from now is simply disrespectful towards Brock. I understand the business side, but players care about what their trade value was. He deserved better than this. He was my favorite Ram for years now. Maybe I'm just salty.

Essentially releasing him. According to overthecap.com it saves the Rams $4.67M. Let's hope they use that money on a center.
It’s not exactly the same impact as releasing him.

By doing this dump-trade, the Rams get about $1.5M additional cap relief.

Not much but something.

Here's the thing. It can't be both "the right time to cut bait with his best years behind him" AND poor cap management because we're dealing a useful player. It either is or it isn't. He either is or he isn't. Loved Brockers but when Donald and Ramsey and Woods and Kupp take restructures for the better of the team and Brockers doesn't, it is time to cut bait.

There are different sorts of restructures. There are the ones that simply move money around and there are pay cuts. The other four were the former. I am betting the Rams asked Brockers for the latter.

Was hoping for at least a 6th!! THIS YEAR!!!

I really hope the Rams have a PLAN (A TARGETED PLAYER!!) for the SALARY CAP money they saved!!!

A 7th RD pick was probably the right one. It's a pure salary dump at a position we have excellent depth at. Like Brockers but he wasn't special.

As someone said, "He haves an epic Pregame speech and the disappears for 3 hours".

Was Sneed channeling his inner Jeffery Michael Fisher with this trade return?

Disagree. Dude didn't disappear. He did his job well. He was always a meh pass rusher, but he was a guy you could count on to execute as a run defender. He was a rock.

I will accept this move (and I know you were all worried about whether I would accept it or not) if it leads to a new center. If it's just pure dump, that would speak poorly of our cap management.

Reading the Lions don't have a 6th or 7th round pick so betting we get a 2022 pick back for him.
I could see Brockers and our 6th for their 5th.

Or Brockers and a late pick next yr for a 5th this yr since they have more draft capital next yr.

They did that in the Cooks deal, dealt a future 4th & Cooks for 2nd.

So maybe Brockers and a 6th next yr for a 5th this yr. Or even next yrs 5th & Brockers for this yrs Detroit's 5th.

The 2021 net cap savings on the Brockers’ trade is $6.166M.

There’s a good/short article by Cameron DaSilva on Rams Wire with the cap impact.

There’s so much inaccurate cap information out there, it’s tricky to navigate. Spotrac and Over-the-Cap do an excellent job but are not always right.

Fact that teams don’t always timely share financial details also makes it difficult. Of course, eventually they have to file the financial details with the League Office, and then the accurate information gets out.
