If the Rams do get Noteboom to sign a future contract ....... it's great to have a team who (at this time) appears to be in very good condition in the team OL @ LT reserve with OL'ers like David Edwards/ Tremayne Anchrum & Alaric Jackson........most all the credit would be directed towards a guy name Sneed.
Yeah and what I wonder about is how do the Rams see the dropoff from Boom to one of those internal options. If for example Jackson represents minimal dropoff then you have options and you have a LT under team control. Seems to me that's the key and that's what we really don't know.

We do know they love Boom. They always have. So he's a fit and likely to be resigned. But this is a business and we've let better guys go like Saff.

If the Rams actually got caught losing Noteboom, I'd bet that Whitworth would return as a short term buffer while we iron out the situation.

Yeah another element to consider. Which if they agreed with might make it easier to decide to test FA and maybe try to get Armstead. In that plan the fallback being an in-house option or Whit.

Speaking of Whit did you notice in his MoY speech that he said LA was where he was going to work and live. I found that interesting and it gave me hope he'll sign on with this staff.

Yeah Jackson looked really good at LT too. Both of them really did a great job. So idk. The problem in all this is sample size for all of them.

It definitely seems like Boom is the guy but we might be in for a surprise or two on the OL this offseason.
Very important to remember Vikings 2 best edge guys were out that game.

I expect us to keep Joe Noteboom. We developed him for this.
Hard not to keep him when he is always riding the injured reserve status.

The truth is Noteboom has had an outstanding smooth technique in his pass protection skills. He fell off badly last season in his pass protection.

Not sure what happened but he was just awful in 2022 compared to the 2021 playoff run. I was of the belief that in 2021 Noteboom version was the far better pass protector than Andrew Whitworth. Has it be an unknown injury???? before the Achilles was completely torn. Might have been what cause that serious injury we will never know unless he tell us.

Noteboom is a true professional good all around guy who has had a series of very bad injury event hit him.

My two takeaways re: Boom's 2022 performance:

1. We're still left wondering if he can stay healthy.

2. There was more variance in his production than I'd like to see from a starting LT of a contender.

Seems to me that we got bit by paying him based on a short sample size. But of course maybe this year he puts together 17 good games. So still hopeful but this is the problem with questionable starters, that you are left concerned or worried about what you're gonna get.

For now at least he's a big question mark. And what is most maddening about this is that Jackson also might not be a guy we can depend on. Though I do value Jackson for the record, and maybe between the two of them we can get 17 good starts because we're probably not gonna find out LT of the future in this draft. Feels like that 2023 first rounder might be what finally solves that problem if it comes down to it.

It really does sound like from Jourdan that the Rams would like to see Jackson run with the LT spot and probably will try to move Noteboom inside to LG (he'd still be the swing tackle).

I don't doubt that. Edwards is probably done, no way the team continues with a guy who seems to have a propensity for concussions. So moving Boom to LG would be a nice solution for the team while they try to get their money's worth from Boom.

But that is all an outgrowth of Boom not locking that LT job down. Had he done that he would be our LT and we'd have a nice backup behind him in Jackson.

Alaric Jackson might be a better G than T and I believe Noteboom is a better T than G. The Rams do like to cross train their OL. It's a nice problem to have as it seems they have all the pieces (and backups) for LT, LG, RG and RT. Havenstein, Jackson, Noteboom, Bruss, Anchrum, Brewer, Arcuri and Thomas. They're light at C with just Allen. It's going to be interesting to see how much they add to that group in the draft and free agency. Hopefully, they won't need 15 OL this year. I just wished Anchrum could play C.

I pray Darnell Wright, Mathew Bergeron,Jaelyn Duncan, and Tyler Steen will all be there for our picks. I’m 100% in for a cheap rookie that we’ll have many years. They all have good tape and a lot of experience starting.

Never seen a solid good block made by Noteboom when he was starting @ LG for OL line coach Kromer for 2 seasons in a roll. I would never plan to have Noteboom take snaps with the offense as an OG...never!

Noteboom is way too soft in his run blocking, plays way too high, big whiffer & can be pushed easily back into the backfield by strong DT's.

I see no justification for paying a bad LG $15.5 million this season either. Way too much & the Rams most likely have a better LG prospects ready to start @ LG who would play better i.e. Alaric Jackson, Tremayne Anchrum,, or even Chandler Brewer.

Noteboom, if he is healthy & has physically prepared from time in the weight room for the 2023 season needs to be the starting LT in 2023. If he is not up to stuff physically then he needs to be PUP'd when the season begins.

Jackson starts @ LT & Snead needs to sign veteran LT Ty Nsekhe as his first important UFA! Nsekhe outplayed Noteboom in 2022 season. Nsekhe is also a good reserve RT & LG & has started in the NFL at those positions. Nsekhe only cost the Rams $1.1 million for his services last season.

I agree with you. Boom's problem is definitely his physicality.

But we're talking about what the Rams will do here. If they like Jackson at LT (which they should) they will almost surely move Boom to LG because it fills the spot vacated by Edwards and nicely provides them an outlet for a signing they may have missed on.

Dude - have you lost it?

I guess posters live to just post.I remember think Noteboom could play LG.That never worked & he got injured a couple times.
The Rams have a the confidence in the world with Noteboom. It’s Alaric Jackson the concern is for some reason.
I’ll wait to make to much judgment on the O”Line, but Noteboom The Rams said they are going to take there time with.He is NOT a GUARD

My hope is we draft an unknown, under rated, big strong kid in the 7th round and he blossoms into the next Orlando Pace.
Might as well wish BIG.

Rams restructure Joe Noteboom’s contract, clear $9M in cap space

The reworked deal essentially guarantees his spot on the roster in 2023 and probably longer

Per Field Yates of ESPN, the Los Angeles Rams have restructured offensive lineman Joe Noteboom’s contract to clear $9M of cap space in 2023.

Restructures are not re-negotiated deals, meaning the player has not agreed to take a pay cut. Instead, this process converts salary dollars into bonuses and spreads guaranteed money across the remaining years of the contract. Sometimes teams will build language into contracts so they have the leverage to convert these dollars automatically, but often they need the player to buy off on the idea.

The restructure probably means Noteboom is not going anywhere in 2023 and perhaps well beyond, since moving him would now mean dead money against the cap beyond this upcoming season. Noteboom was a rumored trade candidate as AJ Jackson appeared to outperform him at left tackle last season.

The Rams have to be under the cap by the start of the new league year on March 15th. Trading away Jalen Ramsey got them just under that threshold, but reworking Noteboom’s deal gives them room to operate in free agency.

Perhaps Los Angeles is clearing space to make a signing? At $9M that is more likely a second level veteran than a premier target, though the structure of a deal could push cap hits into future years.

We at least know the Rams aren’t clearing money to sign kicker Matt Gay—he’s headed to the Indianapolis Colts on the largest free agent contract at the position to-date.

Curious to see if they bring Nsekhe back.. and Shelton.
Right now... they have..

Noteboom
Alaric Jackson
AJ Arcuri
Chandler Brewer
Rob Havenstein
Tremayne Anchrum
Logan Bruss
Zach Thomas
Brian Allen
Matt Skura

I could see them going so many ways in this draft.. including not drafting Oline.

Depends on what they really think of Jackson and what they know about his health.
-Whether they think Boom will be healthy enough to compete for a position or at least be a reliable swing tackle.
-How much they believe Bruss and Anchrum can be the starting guards.
-If they think Allen/Skura is a good-enough solution for one year.

Gotta think a Center is the highest draft priority along the Oline. Gotta be.

Rams rework Joe Noteboom’s contract, create $9M in cap space

CAMERON DASILVA/Tue, Mar 14, 2023
c3ed3378c1b43f4f79ee2f928130a087

The Los Angeles Rams must get under the salary cap by Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET and they took a big step toward getting there on Tuesday. According to Field Yates of ESPN, they restructured Joe Noteboom’s contract to create $9 million in cap space.

Noteboom was viewed as a potential cap casualty this offseason after signing a three-year deal in 2022, but with his deal being reworked, it’s highly unlikely that the Rams will move him now.

The Rams signed Noteboom to a three-year deal worth $40 million last offseason, keeping him under contract through 2024 before he could hit free agency.

His deal includes two void years in 2025 and 2026, which are only there for cap purposes. In this instance a restructuring, it helps spread out some money across additional years rather than it all coming in the next two years.

This move should get the Rams under the cap by the start of the new league year after trading Jalen Ramsey and releasing both Bobby Wagner and Leonard Floyd.
