All of this Positive boys, way to be positive. I have seen enough to be excited about the possibilities and I think the damage done to Davis confidence is much greater than that of the journeyman backup Hill. I like Hill a lot and thought he played well in his short stint but I also think he is much better prepared to handle his role and will be ready if needed. If the situation were reversed I would have much greater concern for Davis subbing in for Hill.
Lets make some magic AD

We, and Fisher, know what Hill can do. If anything, it's the opposite. Short-sighted would be seeing what Hill can do to figure out which QB wins more games for us this year. Thinking with foresight means seeing what Austin Davis can offer because he can be a more long term asset...whether that's as a good backup QB or possibly(but unlikely) as a future starter).

i don't think we know what hill can do after all we only seen 1 half of a real game. and fisher did have hill higher on the depth chart then davis i do agree it will be nice to know what we have in davis

As you said, if he flops, you go right back to Hill. If he doesn't, though, you're much better off. Fisher is simply showing confidence in Davis and seeing what he can offer because he has a future. Hill is on a 1 year deal and not far from retirement.

hill could be resigned to a multi year deal if he played well. as far as being 34 how old was warner when he went to arizona and took them to the sb

I don't see how it reduces options. Shaun Hill will be there either ways. And the guy came into the year knowing he's a backup so it's not like he has an ego or confidence issues that this will effect.

it might not reduce options but after fisher says its hill job when he is healthy. then he says its davis job for the rest of the year. i just think that if davis really goes bad and fisher goes back to hill who he benched then the fans and players have to question his judgement.

I don't want to jinx it

Austin Davis no good at QB. He will stink this sunday and lose job to S. Hill. Rams will get blown out 41-10.

Austin Davis earned Rams' starting QB job but has chance for more
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-ra...s-earned-starting-job-but-has-chance-for-more

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The only thing surprising about St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher's announcement that Austin Davis is his quarterback this week and for the rest of the season is that there was an announcement at all.

There were plenty of signs along the way that Davis would retain the job after making a positive impression in his two starts against Tampa Bay and Dallas. It was the commonsense move, and Fisher wasn't going to eschew that in favor of something that wasn't best for his football team.

The reality was that, at some point, Fisher was going to have to publicly confirm what everyone's eyes were telling them. I thought that might happen after Davis started against Philadelphia this week, but Fisher got it out of the way on Wednesday.

Now that Fisher has confirmed the obvious, the opportunity for Davis shifts beyond a simple game-by-game approach and into something much deeper. In his comments Wednesday, Fisher made it clear that he will have patience with Davis. Interceptions, fumbles and other miscues won't earn Davis a quick seat on the bench.

The Rams want to see what Davis has for the rest of the season.

"I’m not going to have a short hook," Fisher said. "Look at the league last week. There’s some really good quarterbacks having some hard days. I understand that, so I want him to go on that field with confidence and learn how to deal with putting difficult times behind him and continue to improve."

In the short term, Davis gives the Rams the best chance to win, which is what made this decision a relatively easy one for Fisher. What makes it a slam dunk is what Davis could provide beyond the scope of the 2014 season.

Less than a quarter of the way through his third NFL season, Davis' start against the Eagles on Sunday will be only the third of his career. He is 25 years old and has plenty of room for growth in the coming weeks.

With Sam Bradford coming off a second ACL surgery and scheduled to count $16.58 million against the cap next year, his future in St. Louis is tenuous. Shaun Hill, who now reverts to a backup role behind Davis, is 34 and on a one-year contract. Rookie Garrett Gilbert is on the practice squad, and Davis clearly outplayed him in the preseason.

Put simply, if the Rams have any quarterback on the roster who could provide hope for the future of the position, it's Davis. In three games, he leads the NFL in completion percentage, led a stirring comeback win at Tampa Bay and posted 327 passing yards and three touchdowns in a loss to the Cowboys.

Beyond the numbers, Davis has a locker room full of teammates who are buoyed by his presence in the huddle and his fiery demeanor on the field.

"We definitely feed off that," tight end Lance Kendricks said. "You need that in the huddle sometimes, especially with a young group like us. I think that kind of helps everyone’s confidence and ability to just play their game."

The humble and soft-spoken Davis is not letting his more permanent promotion change how he is approaching things. He said Wednesday he hasn't thought much about how he's come from spring roster long shot to entrenched starter in a matter of about three months.

"I think that’s why you do take the cliché approach of work hard every day and take every rep like it’s your last, because you never what’s going to happen in this game with injuries and different opportunities and things like that," Davis said. "So, yeah, it’s a bit of a wild ride. But at the end of the day, this team’s looking for me to lead them, and I’m up for that challenge and excited about it.”

What's left unsaid is the world of opportunity available if Davis should prove consistent. Not that he can think about that right now or that he's done nearly enough to show he should be the starter long term.

But it was only a couple of weeks ago when Davis got his first chance with the hope of turning it into something more. He made the most of it and earned a much bigger opportunity. What he does with his newest task will go a long way in determining what comes next for his career and the Rams at quarterback.

Fisher said AD is not on a short hook. If that's true, we are going to hate it if AD flops and 4 losses from now Hill comes in and lights it up.

I'd rather see what the Rams can do THIS season since there's still time to turn it around.

AD is a good QB so far. Is good going to be enough?

Fisher also said that Hill was the starting QB. What do you expect him to say? "Austin is our guy but at the first sign of struggle, I'm pulling him." We'll see what Fisher does but I gotta think if Davis looks bad, they're not going to give him a lot of latitude.

The players won't question anything. They want to win. Whoever gives them the best chance will be the guy they support.

Whooooo!!! Fisher is back in my good graces. Davis has improved with every outing going back to PS. If he continues to improve, our QB issues may be resolved.

Pulling for Davis to be as effective the rest of the season as he's been thus far! More than that would be outstanding! (y)

Pull the kid if he loses to Seattle or the 49ers? I wonder why Denver didn't do that when they lost to the Seahawks?

Just wanted to add Fisher said Davis would be the starter for the "remainder of the season."

I can only imagine for the time being because obviously it's not Sunday yet, but I can't wait to see what the Rams got in store for Philly. Putting up scores, and making great plays. This is going to be very exciting. I got faith in this decision made by Fisher, and I have faith in Davis to get this team moving in the right direction.

I love the story line but am trying not to put the cart before the horse. I am really hoping that the Davis led Rams dominate the Eagles like the Clemens led Rams did to Indy.

Hope they're stupid enough to put Tavon on man coverage.

I think personally that Fisher knew this was his choice after the Cowboys game. Davis brings a fire to the offense that as a fan I haven't seen in a long time. He makes rookie mistakes but I like the fact he is always trying to make plays. He keeps plays alive with his legs and looks down field to make something happen. I think this is contagious and you see it with the other players. If he can play well this should give our running game a better chance to get that spark it had last year. Not only that but with his mobility the Rams should start GRob since some of his mistakes will be negated by Davis mobility and hopefully GRob can get the experience he needs and get his road grating started in Philly!! This move is a total win-win for the Rams and Davis will only grow from this experience and provide some exciting moments for the Rams fan base that is totally behind him!

Go Rams!

well you know the players better then me when you say they won't question anything. don't get me wrong i'm behind davis al the way. i really like how he never gives up on a play and never quits looking down field.but imo we should have started hill and if he did bad we have davis to come in and rally the team. if davis does bad we have to bring in a guy who was benched which i think would be harder to rally behind so i guess will just have to agree to disagree.

Now lets just hope the pressure doesn't get to him and he continues to play solid football.
