I'll be the first to admit that it was a head scratching trade at first for me. I was concerned with the draft capital it cost us plus I worried about his behavior in Jacksonville. Happy to eat crow on this as he has been a model teammate and his play has been elite all season. Love the kid.

Honestly I was kinda upset about the trade for Ramsey. I really thought he was going to be a huge liability in regards to locker room and off the field issues. I'm thoroughly impressed with him before and after his contract negations and think he's one of the more positive and motivating influences in the locker room now. Absolutely glad we gave up what we did for him!

Guess it doesn't matter having a first if Snead and Co. find amazing talent regardless of draft position right? lol

All I knew about Ramsey prior to the trade, (I'd heard his name of course), was his armored car stunt, so I wasn't jacked when I heard the news. (Sidenote - the "1st round" picks didn't (don't) bother me, because they're usually mid twenties).

So long story short, not what I expected, but love the guy, especially the way he tackles.

This year, the NFC Playoffs will feature the following #1 receivers:

Michael Thomas
Davante Adams
DeAndre Hopkins
Chris Godwin/Mike Evans
Terry Mclaurin
DK Metcalf

I wonder why Snead wanted a #1 corner? Such a mystery.
Excellent point Leo.
So Let me see if I completely understand what you're saying here

In order to stop this
---------------------------------
Michael Thomas
Davante Adams
DeAndre Hopkins
Chris Godwin/Mike Evans
Terry Mclaurin

DK Metcalf

We paid this
----------------------------------

2 #1's and a suitcase of cash

Ok, Yea I pulled out the calculator on this one
and all the numbers seem to be there.
I'm gonna go ahead and step out on a limb here and say

Yes, that balances out pretty well.

here's the spreadsheet.

I've been told you can only evaluate a draft years after the fact. But apparently you're not allowed to criticize it.

What was being discussed is whether Austin was a good draft pick.
Fair enough. Hopkins would've been a better pick. The Rams seemed to have learned from that.

Only when Mcvay came to town.

GRob was an even worse pick in regards to athleticism over brains. Horrible. How did they pick him after they spent so much time interviewing him trying to get a handle on if he loves football? I'm pretty sure he didn't ace the interviews.

AS much as i was excited when we drafted Tavon (his youtube college highlights were amazing) WE could have drafted D. Hop It still hurts smh. But years later i can say we are alright finally. hahahhaha

There used to be a YouTube channel that did some of that "what if" stuff.

Like what if a team didn't draft this bust player... stuff like that.

Well, if we drafted Nuk, it means Jeff Fisher likely has just enough success for us to miss out on Goff and just as likely miss out on McVay. Also, remember that McVay was the first choice in SF before they pulled all the stops to ensure they got Kyle Shanahan which looked shaky at first.

So, if we drafted Nuk, we might still have Fisher, Snead's prospects are in question now and we almost certainly don't have Goff and McVay would be in SF (shudder). We don't likely make the deal for Ramsey... this team would be DRASTICALLY different.

The same scenario plays out if we draft Bobby Wagner (yeah, THAT one really hurts).

As much as we missed in the past, it was those very misses that put us in position to make the changes we've made that got us to a Super Bowl and will get us to more.

Which means... those failures are just as integral to our success as the good things we're doing now.

Basically, all that shit in the past made great fertilizer to grow and reap the bounty we're seeing now.

the biggest change was Jared Goff.

McSnead has done a Great Job building this franchise up.

Add the move to LA as well.I believe SUH does not become a Ram other wise.Same with Big Whitworth,Mcvay was a big reason & Goff building something new.

Giving up draft picks is not a thing I like, but the Leadership is Priceless

it's worked out well so far. It's not all about the draft picks though-its about cap room as well. Drafted players are a crap shoot - but they are a lot cheaper and allow you to spend money elsewhere.

I'm with FLV - you can't really judge trades, drafts in 1.5 seasons.

So far so good...
Well I think you can. I think these things are so dynamic and this sport is so what have you done for me lately, that judgement comes in the moment. A trade can be good and bad. Cooks was very good the first year but now not so much. Although without his contributions Rams would not have made the SB. The next year three concusions and not so good. And because the FO deals with whats in front of them and doesn't worry how it looks to anybody else, we enjoyed the good and didn't have to deal long with the bad. Were over it.

I kinda digressed at the end there, but yea, you can judge as you go.

Does anyone wonder if Jalen is at all bothered about not being the best player on the Defense, let alone the team?
I know he has been vocal about Donald being the Def MVP and hasn't shown any hint of being unhappy. He seems to love it here.

I guess what I am wondering is if sooner or later Ramsey will want to be the man again?

Maybe I am just a homer but not only do I think Ramsey is the second best player on our team, I genuinely think he is the second best defensive player in the league.

My hope is that the success Donald and Ramsey have playing together combined with the culture and camaraderie on this team will motivate both to stay here and play together until father time closes their window. I don't know how possible it would be but the Rams org should do whatever they have to in order to keep both AD and Ramsey in horns for another 5 years.

I was all in on Ramsey. I wanted Less to get him as soon as he became available.
...
I'm sure this is true, but I wonder how many fans felt otherwise and will own up to it.

Here is how I felt:

One thing that is overlooked by the talking heads is, counterintuitive as it sounds, this defensive move DOES IN FACT HELP THE OFFENSE TOO!

The Rams are getting nickeled and dimed to death on D and this bend don’t break approach that sometimes gives 3s vs 7s also eats up TONS OF TIME....

I’m pumped by this move.

This was still steep, but bold and absolutely the right move.

Yep, that way my only concern as well. But I knew having AD on the front end and JR on the back end would really provide the foundation for a great D, and boy has it ever.

I saw something the other day, maybe on Twitter, where Jalen was bragging on AD, calling him the best defensive player in the game and maybe best overall player. Don't think he's bothered by it at all.
