I would have McVay, who has a really good grasp of what to look for in a QB, draft one he likes this offseason in that scenario. This offense doesn't need a top 10 pick at QB to complete play action passes and occasionally make throws from the pocket. That's the beauty of this offense.

Look at the Skins. They missed badly on RG3 and yet McVay allowed them to turn to a little known guy in Cousins. McVay is enormously valuable in that regard IMO.

I'm with you there man, and people do forget Goff was drafted by Fisher and not McVay. So who knows truly how he feels about his skill set, especially at this point in year 5. I have no doubt McVay can evaluate and draft a great mid round QB prospect, I'm just saying if we bring in a new QB or decide to give Walford snaps... how do we put $30M+ on the bench? I dont think it's ever been done before. It's not like Chicago benching Trubisky, who yes was the #2 overall pick...but they declined his 5th year option and he's still on his rookie deal. We already paid Goff and will have the cap hit regardless.

I want Goff to do well but Jesus it’s been a couple of seasons. Get you’re shit together. It’s like Bradford all over again. He has the tangibles to be a great QB but never lives to it. Part of it could be the line or mcvay but part of of me thinks not.

How many comeback videoes have you seen Wilson?

I doubt you could find one of Goff.

Answer with the thought of winning more games. Don't answer with your heart on this one. Answer as if you are the head coach and the trade was real ... if you wanted to do it.

The rams would have never negotiated that contract if McVay wasn't fond of Goff. The idea that Mcvay is uncomfortable with his play is far off the mark. The idea that a mid-round talent would somehow play drastically better in this same system is also wishful thinking.

I love Goff. I'm absolutely fine with him. You're right. He isn't as terrible as the media would have us believe. But let's not get carried away and be homers, haha. :) I'm a 45 year long Ram fan so far so I can say the following. Jared Goff is NOT even in the top 10 QBs this season. But I wouldn't trade him for anyone either.

My how things have changed

I don't think McVay's offense is a good fit for Wilson, so no. Russell is a great QB, and this year he is playing so damn good he's making Brian Schottenheimer look like a good offensive coordinator - a feat akin to Napoleon making the French - the FRENCH! - into Europe's most fearsome fighting force for a time. But fit matters.

Now Mahomes ... yeah, without a doubt.

Oh please tell me you're not still calling Wilson a mid-round talent.............?

Yeah. I know I know.
But then I saw Goff play football today, and became gravely concerned.

You do know that as I've said many times, my "trade" scenario is just for fun? Just to help each of us evaluated for ourselves how good or not good we think our Goff is. Football is just a game people. There is really NO reason to hate your own fellow fans because they started a QB discussion about a trade that could never happen.

Because I like goff and believe he's the guy.

Look I'm super interested in everyone's personal opinion. THAT'S why I started the thread.
I respect your opinion that you believe he's the guy.

I just want to check on something though, and it's a serious question.
Do you think Goff was "the guy" today?

I think he was the guy in the KC game 2 years ago, that's for sure!

Wilson would fit better in this scheme than the one he's in IMO. But this type of question would never happen because no team is that stupid. And I say that as a Goff supporter. I love the kid but he's no Russell Wilson.

Goff for Wilson? Anyone who doesn't take that trade is hugely bias. Wilson is playing MVP level football and, quite frankly, has been for 2-3 years now. It is just that the NFL is only now waking up to it. He takes garbage o-lines and limited WRs and consistently produces elite offensive units with them. How many QBs can do that? All-time, even, the number is very small. Jared Goff certainly can't. Wilson can.

And I like Goff. Some teams have been searching 20+ years for a QB you can win Super Bowl with. We should be careful what we wish for before we cast away Jared. He's already been to 1 Super Bowl at this young age, including out-duelling Brees on the road in a tough environment. He can make all the throws. He is tough mentally. I like Goff. But he isn't perfect. He struggles immensely under pressure as compared to other starting QBs, seems to struggle to read defences, is not very athletic, is inconsistent, has ball security issues, and locks onto receivers. He's a solid starting QB - which itself is a rarity - but definitely not at Wilson's level. Wilson is a truly special tier of QB talent. And it pains me greatly to say that.

EDIT - I am not convinced we'd do better drafting a young stud QB to replace Goff, either. Goff was a #1 pick himself. I don't think most fans realize how rare a great QB is. If you have a decent one - and Goff is - that alone is worth holding onto. Look at what Cousins got from Minnesota, just for being decent. Finding an elite QB is like finding a unicorn.

I didn't say he wasn't fond, I said its impossible to know how McVay really feels about his skill set given he didnt draft him. Whether he was fond or not when he came from Washington...that was 4 years ago and how much has Goff improved since 2017? To think McVay still feels the same way about him as he did back then is wishful thinking.

Whether a mid round pick would play better is a complete unknown, as the draft is any year. If you read my post I was advocating for not drafting a rookie QB anyways. Doesnt make since with Goff's huge salary cap hit. Personally I think we should try to build draft capital for 2022 and take the best QB McVay likes then. We'll be able to get out from under Goffs contract at that point in time.

Wow I wasn't even going there because I don't think the jets would want that. They would be focused on Lawrence or trading the pick for a bounty.

They would have no interest in Goff. It would have to be a team that has been searching for a QB for years.

I think if the Jets take Lawrence Darnold could be had like a Josh Rosen.

darnolds showed way more than Rosen has. Dude he’s on the Jets. His only playmaker is Jamison crowder.

No hate here.. just questioning your motive.

Brady threw 4 ints once.

Big Ben threw 5

No one is perfect. This game is more on McVay then Goff.

I wouldn't trade either of them
