I would have McVay, who has a really good grasp of what to look for in a QB, draft one he likes this offseason in that scenario. This offense doesn't need a top 10 pick at QB to complete play action passes and occasionally make throws from the pocket. That's the beauty of this offense.
Look at the Skins. They missed badly on RG3 and yet McVay allowed them to turn to a little known guy in Cousins. McVay is enormously valuable in that regard IMO.
Goff and how many years of my soul? The answer is still yes but I just need to know.
Not for the rams. And you believe 7 time pro bowler super bowl champ Russell Wilson is not the guy?
I'm with you there man, and people do forget Goff was drafted by Fisher and not McVay. So who knows truly how he feels about his skill set, especially at this point in year 5. I have no doubt McVay can evaluate and draft a great mid round QB prospect, I'm just saying if we bring in a new QB or decide to give Walford snaps... how do we put $30M+ on the bench? I dont think it's ever been done before. It's not like Chicago benching Trubisky, who yes was the #2 overall pick...but they declined his 5th year option and he's still on his rookie deal. We already paid Goff and will have the cap hit regardless.
I love Goff. I'm absolutely fine with him. You're right. He isn't as terrible as the media would have us believe. But let's not get carried away and be homers, haha. I'm a 45 year long Ram fan so far so I can say the following. Jared Goff is NOT even in the top 10 QBs this season. But I wouldn't trade him for anyone either.
Check out almost any stat you'd like on this page:
The rams would have never negotiated that contract if McVay wasn't fond of Goff. The idea that Mcvay is uncomfortable with his play is far off the mark. The idea that a mid-round talent would somehow play drastically better in this same system is also wishful thinking.
My how things have changed
Because I like goff and believe he's the guy.
Wilson would fit better in this scheme than the one he's in IMO. But this type of question would never happen because no team is that stupid. And I say that as a Goff supporter. I love the kid but he's no Russell Wilson.I don't think McVay's offense is a good fit for Wilson, so no. Russell is a great QB, and this year he is playing so damn good he's making Brian Schottenheimer look like a good offensive coordinator - a feat akin to Napoleon making the French - the FRENCH! - into Europe's most fearsome fighting force for a time. But fit matters.
Now Mahomes ... yeah, without a doubt.

Wow I wasn't even going there because I don't think the jets would want that. They would be focused on Lawrence or trading the pick for a bounty.
They would have no interest in Goff. It would have to be a team that has been searching for a QB for years.
I think if the Jets take Lawrence Darnold could be had like a Josh Rosen.
No hate here.. just questioning your motive.Yeah. I know I know.
But then I saw Goff play football today, and became gravely concerned.
You do know that as I've said many times, my "trade" scenario is just for fun? Just to help each of us evaluated for ourselves how good or not good we think our Goff is. Football is just a game people. There is really NO reason to hate your own fellow fans because they started a QB discussion about a trade that could never happen.
