There are a couple changes that absolutely change/destroy the basis for the whole story. Hope they gloss over move on from them. There are a couple changes that I can just shrug off. I can also kind of see why they moved on from the Matt Cauthon actor. Overall I enjoyed it very much if for no reason other than it's Wheel of Time on tv finally.
Man that first episode felt rushed eh? It got progressively better from there because they could flesh the characters out more.
A main premise of the books was the edmonds field 5 resisting going on the adventure and in the first episode they just kinda left with Moirane without argument. Strange. I think Ep 1 could have been way better if it had been 90min. We could have gotten the foreshadowing of Tams Fever dream and had Moirane give the Manetheren speech where it belonged, to convince the main cast to go with her.
I loved Shadar Logoth! That was so well done. The Moirane and Lan actors are killing it. Matt basically saying “so you do talk” after Lans exposition about Shadar Logoth had me rolling.
I also love that they really laid some ground work for Matt early on. In the books he isn’t really touched until later. He grew into one of my favorite characters through the series. Its so good to see his character really being fleshed out before: SPOILERS!!! the cursed knife makes him insufferable.
Ep1 was the weakest and rushed.
Ep2 did a good job of slowing down and having character development and world building.
Ep3 Tom Merrilin, that is all lol
So far for me: 8/10
Don’t judge my spelling of characters names lol I’m not gonna loon it up right now.

The one thing I didn't like is how they shit on his dad. His dad was an upstanding good guy member of the village council. And in the show he's a scumbag piece of shit. I did like Matt's story but I can also see why they have already replaced that actor for season 2.

Idk man, Barney Harris is nailing Matt for me. He mumbles a bit too much for my taste but other than that I feel he is capturing that rouge/good guy vibe pretty well. To be honest I’m a bit sad he isn’t returning for season 2. Sucks it’s undisclosed why as well so we may never know if it was a creative decision or a personal issue.
What is it you don’t like about his performance so far?

It may be the writing but I get more of the dirt bag vibe than the joker. He walked out on working with Rand and was stealing from the girls in the village. That wasn't him in the books so maybe my issue is with the writing.

I took that as the knife starting to affect him. But they obviously don’t explain that at all so it may be colored by my knowledge of the story. But yeah, he was definitely prickish in that episode

Yeah they should have made the main episode 90 minutes and include the speech and the foreshadowing but in the TV series, I think they went with the idea, let's only give hints as to who the dragon reborn is.

I think they could have made that episode 10 minutes longer by including the Trollocs being driven in by the 4 Fades - make it really scary and thrilling at the same time

True. Also when they mention four ta’veren rather than three. That was definitely to make it more ambiguous who the Dragon Reborn is. I find it strange that it isn’t made clear that it could only be a man though. Kinda glossed over that.

Oh yeah, imagine the trollocs getting there just before the Logoth curse! Up the ante hella.
Talking with my sister who hasn’t read the series Shadar Logoth and its back story are what she is most curious about right now. She is asking all the right questions and it makes me so excited!
Side note, how did you do that spoiler marker in your post? That’s gonna come in handy in this thread lol
Yeah I'm really not happy with the way they are doing this. To each their own of course (casual and some other fans won't be bothered and that's fine) but this is a series I read when it first came out, and waited for each book. So for me it's not cool to have some Hollywood hack chop up the nature of the story due to things that, well, just gonna leave it at that.

I'm not that disappointed but the couple changes that I stated is bad.
I think once Rand is named dragon - the series will go in the right direction. However. they should have shown Mordeth since he merges with Padan Fain.
I saw episode 4 and I liked it for the most part. They are for the most part staying true to the characters and the overall gist of the story, but they have changed the base story lines quite a bit.
But there is one thing that still bothers me about this show.
I mean really. The Dragon has to be male. Get off this that the dragon could be female. Only Saidin causes the person to go mad and the dragon has to have the potential of going mad. That is why he could still break the world again. Saidin = male soul, Saidar = female soul (well he could be female but only if he is casting saidin like another does in the later books
