I will say if the Jefferson injury is serious needing surgery etc. While I understand he wouldn't comeback til mid November maybe early December (although watching his workouts one would think he could play now lol) but his price goes up in my book. He wants to be here I'm thinking something is there with a little neg but Rams just need some assurances.

Also to my Ramily cap gurus how does it work if you sign him after the season begins cap wise or use it to your advantage? I think that's what's going on.

Last point Buffalo Andre Reed Von Miller stay the fuck away and stop with the run it bk in Buffalo bullshit. You ain't won shit yet nothing to run back. For those that want proof I can try locate link but Atlantic City fundraiser had Andre Reed and Obj with some serious conversation and recruitment. Enough for Andre Reed to say there is strong interest. Buffalo go get your own identity stop trying to be the Rams you don't have AD or a ring so take a hike.

I remember he had his knee rolled up against the Texans - wonder if this is residual from that play.

about 2:48 mark is the play

Yeah as his left knee is coming down on the turf with his lower leg kind of up the defender lands on the back and jams that leg and knee into the turf. Likely hyperextension and meniscus tear I'd think. Something that could nag even after surgery. Hopefully they get it figured out.

Does anyone know what the "minor knee procedure" he underwent this offseason was? I'm assuming it was something like removing bonechips, but cannot recall hearing anything specific.

It does depend on the severity of the injury - but I guess i disagree about the depth of our receiver core. It was a big issue in the Super Bowl and nearly cost us the game once OBJ went down.

None of those players you mentioned have proven to be threats or productive.

This is a position group that concerned me even before the Van Jefferson injury news.
A little different in the Super Bowl, but I do want to take a look at some of the younger players like Harris & Atwell before looking at others. Some of the guys you mention like Fuller & Hilton have injury issues and I doubt DeSean Jackson will be given another opportunity.

Let's check out the severity of the injury before we look into adding anyone else IMHO.

I am far more positive that Harris could fill the spot that #3 role Jefferson had than Atwell.

I also want to see a lot of McCutcheon in the preseason.
I realize you have doubts about Atwell, but IMO, the combination of Harris & Atwell might work as to Lance McCutcheon, let's see what happens with him when the lights come on.

Geez here we go again.

That’s why you have solid depth.I always try to look at it as a positive.

I think A. Robinson was such a Excellent signing. Also believe there was something going on with Van Jefferson around the SuperBowl?

He wasn’t going to get much playing time in the preseason & just always another WR to step up. Jacob Harris without pads again looked impressive. With pads we’ll see.

So true... having the team's #3 WR out is not a positive for Coaches Liam Coen/ Zac Robinson/ Eric Yarber but for the other lesser-known WR's who were out for most of last season (TuTu Atwell/ Jacob Harris)& the new guy Lance McCutcheon ...... it's a positive. There has been a ton of positive articles authored during the spring drill on Atwell & McCutcheon.

Seems I recall the young practice squad guy WR Landen Akers had a very strong camp & pre-season last year, although I haven't heard his name called this season yet.

During his rookie season, receiver Ben Skowronek was on the field with receiver Van Jefferson for key moments during the Rams’ run to a Super Bowl title.

Now Skowronek might replace Jefferson — at least at the outset of the season.

Jefferson, who was coming back from offseason knee surgery and has been absent from practice for two days, could undergo another knee procedure early this week, two people with knowledge of the situation said Sunday, requesting anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The Rams were counting on a starting receiver corps that included reigning NFL offensive player of the year Cooper Kupp, new addition Allen Robinson and Jefferson, a third-year pro who caught 50 passes last season, six for touchdowns.

But if Jefferson undergoes a relatively minor procedure, he probably would be sidelined at least for the Sept. 8 opener against the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium.

On Saturday, after Jefferson was absent from practice, Rams coach Sean McVay declined to provide details about Jefferson’s situation. McVay was not scheduled to speak with reporters on Sunday, and the team did not make him available to address Jefferson’s status.

If Rams receiver Van Jefferson is sidelined, Ben Skowronek (18) is currently the next man up.

Offensive coordinator Liam Coen did not provide details about Jefferson’s situation but said it presented opportunity for other players — and for coaches — to step up.

“A great opportunity for us to get creative in different ways that we can put guys in different positions to help our offense,” Coen said.

Skowronek, 6 feet 3 inches and 224 pounds, is accustomed to seizing opportunity.

After playing parts of four seasons at Northwestern, he transferred to Notre Dame. In nine games, he caught five touchdown passes and averaged 15 yards per catch.

The Rams selected Skowronek in the seventh round of the 2021 draft, with the 249th pick. He initially was projected as a special-teams contributor and potential fifth or sixth receiver in a corps that included Kupp, Jefferson, Robert Woods, Desean Jackson and second-round pick Tutu Atwell.

Then Jackson, unhappy with his role, was released after eight games. Atwell appeared overwhelmed by playing receiver in the NFL and returned kicks for eight games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Woods suffered a season-ending knee injury with eight regular-season games remaining.

Despite the signing of Odell Beckham Jr., Skowronek carved out a role with his speed, strength and versatility. He caught 11 passes for 133 yards in the last 10 games.

After Sunday’s practice, he said he welcomed more opportunities.

“I’m really looking forward to getting these reps with [quarterback] Matthew [Stafford], the first-team offense, stuff like that,” he said. “Just getting comfortable each and every day.”

Skowronek, 25, said he learned from miscues and mishaps during a rookie season in which he played four receiver positions and special teams.

In the NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers, Skowronek dropped what would have been a 38-yard touchdown pass.

After Beckham suffered a second-quarter knee injury in the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals, McVay and receivers coach Eric Yarber called upon Skowronek. Early in the third quarter, a pass bounced off Skowronek’s left hand and into the arms of Bengals defensive back Chidobe Awuzie for an interception.

“Being thrown into the fire, whether it’s playoff games, especially the Super Bowl, at positions I might not have practiced throughout the year, I think it’s going to be great for me to look back at that and be able to see how I grew,” Skowronek said. “Adversity builds character.”

Coaches and teammates have said that the 5-9, 165-pound Atwell has made strides, but going into training camp, Skowronek’s play last season eventually made him the fourth receiver behind Kupp, Robinson and Jefferson.

Yarber this week described Skowronek as his “Swiss Army knife” of the receiving corps.

“His strength is his speed and his physicalness — that’s his access,” Yarber said. “That’s the way he should play. No finesse, but speed and confidence.

“Finesse will be his changeup.”

Skowronek studied and learned from Kupp, Woods, Jefferson and Beckham last season, and from Robinson during offseason workouts and training camp.

Yet he will not try to be somebody other than himself, he said.

“I’m someone who got drafted 249, you know, nothing given to me,” he said. “I had to beat out a lot of guys throughout camp last year to even make the team.

“So I love adversity, it’s something that motivates me. I love when people count me out.”

Sounds like Skow's job to lose but some form of committee will replace Jefferson via Jourdan's analysis. Wish I had heard better about Skow catching passes in camp but sounds like his dropsies have continued through the first week... still a lot of camp left though.

It’s crazy that this is his issue. I became a Skow honk during his season at ND because he caught everything. Made some amazing grabs and was fearless
Clearly it’s mental and thats really a shame because he can catch. Alas, performance gets/keeps you on the field, reputation only gets you a shot
