Didn't they start dating in 2019? Just sayin' haha

I'm almost 100% positive they became an item after the chiefs game. Publicly at least.

After the phins game Mcvay said something about preparation and wanting it. Don't remember the exact words. But that was a red flag right there for Goff.

Put me in Goff's shoes and there's no way I could keep my mind on the job. He's still a young guy. If I'm at home trying to get some work in and I saw some skin it would be all over, especially such a perfect specimen like that.

But we keep seeing fans try to make it seem like there wasn’t a need for the trade.
I can't wrap my ahead around that one.

I supported and believed in him from day 1 of Fisherball thru the tough '19 season.

Then in 2020 he comes out with yet another loaded roster in an offense he should know like the back of his hand, and by mid season he's completely regressed into a liability instead of a strong veteran QB.

I was done as a fan. How could the Rams have NOT decided to move on?

I think they’ll be Top15 offense or better
I think Goff is a good guy and and I wish him well and all that.... but....

I think Detroit is gonna be a dumpster fire this year. In 2020, they were dead last on Defense for both points and yardage. And on O, they lost their starting QB and their ENTIRE WR corps.

So having a crappy D is going to put all the more pressure on Goff and a whole new group of (mediocre) WR's. Not to mention a brand new coaching staff.

Goff will be looking to overcome huge deficits with teams ready and willing to blitz him all day. Yikes.

Regarding the "dead horse" thing...

I can respect those who feel like they just want to "move on." But on the other hand, I can also respect those of us (like me) who just find it interesting to monitor how both of their careers progress.

It's pretty darn rare for starting QB's to swap teams in the NFL, and IMHO it's only natural to be interested in comparing them.

Doesn't need to be a "personal slight" against any player or coach-- just an interesting story with an unknown ending.

Apparently McVay disagrees with you. How much do you know about what McVay wanted from Goff and what he got? From what we’ve been told Jared did not meet expectations and McVay purposely scaled back the offense to make it easier for Goff to execute. So is playing well in that case and in some games an amazing accomplishment? You can think Jared was doing great with what he was given to do but you cannot know how much more was expected of him. So evaluating good/bad is pointless and it’s not likely the coach would agree with your evals.
never said Stafford wasn’t an improvement right now. I just feel Goff is better for the long run since I think he will improve on his mistakes and Stafford only has 3 years left. I hope I am wrong and he lasts 5 to 7 years.

Agreed. He went from a net positive in the previous three years under McVay (even if he did have games where he was a liability) to a guy who was dragging the team down in 2020. I don't know what caused it. And it wasn't like he was consistently terrible throughout 2020. He was definitely a net positive over the first 7 games.

Problem is that he was a total liability over the final 8 games. That Miami game is where everything fell apart. Maybe that's when he and McVay had their falling out. I don't know.
I rewatched those games and he wasn’t as bad as you think in those games. His biggest problem was his mistakes which brought the team down. No excuses for a lot of them. I was just hoping he would improve upon them.

If you go back and watch every throw from a neutral perspective, you can't say he was "good" in any of those games except Tampa. And the problem with the Tampa game for me is the two awful INTs that turned what should have been a blowout into a nail biter. And a ton of his yards were YAC gained by Woods and Kupp.
The Tampa game only had 1 bad interception. The other interception was due to a miscommunication between Goff and the Running Back. No clue who to blame on that one and miscommunications happen from time to time.

Plus after the bad interception, he came right back and led the team downfield on a drive to put the Rams ahead for good.

Want to know how Jarred Goff is doing at Lions TC? Read Lions latest article. Goff sacked twice, hasn't thrown the ball over 15 yds yet, says he's "still knocking the rust off".

Google---Day 3 notes and observations: Lions QB jarred Goff still trying to get the deep ball going

There is no guarantee that Goff will improve. Most QBs don’t get that much better. Guys like Rich Gannon are an exception. Do you expect Winston to get better? Look at Fitzpatrick. He’s been the same guy for 15 years. Some limitations are not easily overcome. Any NFL player greatly improving through the years is the exception not the norm.

Can you name players that got even better after they’ve been in the league for five years?

Have you seen Detroit’s team, they are even worse than last year
You can look past that. Look at the Chargers before Herbert. You could instantly see what he did for that team and what he could become.

QBs touch the ball on every play. They lead the team. Good ones make it work, and while they may not win a lot you see the good things that they can do. You see the ability despite the team they were on. Aaron Donald was still AD with Fisher and Williams.

Too many ppl equate team success with individual success. Jared can still play well on a bad team.

Manning Brady Stafford Rothlisberger Brees etc

Of course I am only going by stats right now so can't tell you if that was just because of getting better players or what

You are right though - no guarantee

I felt the Chargers were a good team missing a good head coach.

Detroit - they just suck

Preseason is preseason - however, I am definitely hoping that what I am hearing out of Rams camp will continue into the regular season

Just so everyone knows - I am only defending Goff against some of the comments that I have seen that I feel are not true. I want to reiterate that I am all in on Stafford and will cheer for him no matter what. Even if the Rams lose some games, it is a team game and I won't put down Stafford unless he plays really bad which I don't think will happen unless he gets hurt (some concern there being age 33 and all with a possible bad back).

Just to add, Jared could still play well but if his receivers don't get open and/or drop balls well ....

I still see the Lions going at best 6 - 10 with that team. They are really bad. I don't care who their QB is. Stafford would have trouble winning games with that team and having the same stats he had last year. Maybe their run game is better this year but we will see because last year by the second half, they gave up running the ball and passed almost every down in the second half since they were down by so much in the second half.
