Yea sorry man I'm not buying that. Idk if the article is true or not but if it is then there's zero excuse for the way mcvay handled it. His job is to build players up not tear em down. Just because other coaches do that doesn't make it ok. I have serious concerns with mcvay when it comes to developing a young qb now and I thought I would never have that concern. I highly doubt Stafford will take that shit from mcvay like goff did and I'm concerned with how mcvay will handle his quarterback telling him to fuck off. Hopefully he handles it like a boss.

I can't agree dude his job is to win and get the most from players. Every coach does it different. Try and tell belicheat or parcels or other coaches how to get the best. I get a lot of today's youth might be weak in different areas and strong in others I'm not old I'm 45 but no. You do what you can he did go nurturing at first he didn't get it then he went let's try these buttons and made it worse. Sure that's on mcvay but also on Goff. It's how we respond to adversity that makes us or the players or whatever aspect of life. I'm not saying mcvay is blameless but if mcvay coddling way works great when he saw it didn't he tried a different route then lost his shit. Now if Goff takes that criticism and runs with it and becomes the star we wanted him to be or he still could be hopefully are we even discussing this? The pressure will be on both this year more than likely you will and we will get our answers. Hang tight bro let the story unfold cannot undo what's been done. Let's ride it out.

Last year, I stated, quite boldly, regarding the offense's primary problem, that "its the OL, stupid."

McVay, it would seem, is indicating that I'm the stupid one.

I still know more about employment law, birds and 80s movies than he does, though.

If this really is the end all thread for Goff.... which I highly doubt.... I'd like to finally get this off my chest. I'm very surprised that I haven't heard this from anyone else honestly. This has been a massive problem for me since Goff was brought into our beloved franchise.

Excited to see Stafford
I thank everything that is holy that the starting QB of The Los Angeles Rams will no longer be wearing the number 16 to honor joe montana. This has absolutely disgusted me and actually angered me since I learned about Goff's reason for picking that fucking number.

If this never disgusted you... maybe you didn't know why he wore #16, or maybe you weren't alive when we had to play against the cheating whiners and that mother fucker who wore #16 for them.

That shit was beyond blasphemous... it was TOTALLY FUCKED.

The complete disrespect is over. Hopefully we bring in a hazmat crew and somehow scrub every molecule of that stench out of our locker room.

Well I’d say there were a few things I didn’t like .A couple things I did.
#16 is not as bad as #8. Dude signed with LA out of BYU for $20 Million.Talk about disrespect to LA,but The WHOLE NFL.Couldn’t wait to get him get EXPRESSED out of here.
Goff running onto the field before a game.He looked like he was from SF.Then he’s do a knee lift thing.I liked his disco moves though when The Rams were in Rhythm.

Two points I'd like to make.. the first is that how many games did the Rams lose because the defense could not stop the opponent from moving the ball and/or scoring late in the game. Dolphins? Niners? Jets? Even in 2019... remember the two 3rd and 16's IN A ROW against the Niners?

And I did not know a thing about Jared Goff coming out of college, but I sure was surprised when Fish took a 6'5" skinny kid over the 6"5" 240 pound pro-style QB. Wentz also looked great after a couple of years, and I wonder how he would have developed under McVay.

Which is utter shit because we've all seen him on Jared on the sidelines when other players were on the same sidelines. Like others have said it sounds like one guy complaining but we'll never likely know the truth. Either way he's on the Lions now we can all move on, if people let us.

Yeah idk if Lindsey is lying or if the player she quoted is just a moron I guess.

I don’t think she’s lying she seems to be very good at her job. But anonymous sources should imo always be taken with a grain of salt. An @Merlin size grain at that.

Yes he did. Also a terrible org coming with a new coach at the time trying to rebuild (and they're still doing so). Everything was bad that year. Jared under Sean McVay has always had the support, and in the past 2 years hasn't lived up to his end of the bargain. At least consistently.
Deshaun Watson has terrible coach and players in 2020 and he lit it up. Stafford has yet to show he elevates a team.

Man.

Deshaun's team was bad yes. He wasn't a problem. Neither was Matthew Stafford on the Lions. He's one of the best at stealing wins. Hell the Lions defenders were celebrating the Falcons' go ahead TD b/c they knew Matt Stafford was gonna win it just last year.

It was the exact opposite on the Rams the last 2.5 years.

Lots of interesting stuff coming out. Seems like McVay's frustration with Goff's limitations regarding reading defenses ...and turning the ball over came to a head.

They mentioned "post snap reads" with McVay being in Goff's ear reading the defenses for him ...teams caught up with that and would seem those post snap changes were something Jared was slow to master.

Just caught this article today and WOW. It is exactly what many around here saw and speculated. Funny how many were so quick to jump on McVay and defend Goff. Not only could Goff not learn and pick things up quickly enough, but parts of his game still haven't developed after 5 years. The biggest one being able to read a defense quickly and decipher what he sees. It was so obvious when you watched thr All-22 film. McVay had to call a perfect play and scheme a "win" otherwise the play was dead. If a defense won up front, or played good coverage, there was zero room for error and Goff couldn't create any plays out of structure on his own.

Then it gets into how McVay was lighting up Goff on the sideline and in the locker room. That was a bit surprising but completely understandable given his play. And Goff being not the most naturally confident guy folded under the ridicule. That tells me he's not mentally strong enough.

Then it talks about how the team rallied around Wolford and wanted him to start. How they had their best practices with him under center WTF? I knew the team was pumped when he made plays late vs AZ but man the Goff / McVay relationship fell apart quickly and McVay really was fed up and had enough. Crazy stuff.

I don't think she's 'lying' either - but if it was said, I'm sure she embellished it to the max.
She has always come off as a shit-stirrer to me - your basic espnitwit.

As far as @Merlin size grain - seems like there'd be a lot of truth in that. :ROFLMAO:

It's amazing how incredibly tone deaf some can be :D

I don't think there's a single person absolving Goff of his mistakes and short comings. Unlike McVay who can do no wrong to some people.

McVay’s comments could have been construed as Goff maybe was not putting the same amount of work in prior to games. So maybe bad games = bad practice habits or study habits. I really think much of the speculation confirmed some fans suspicions of what was going on. In their mind at least. Either way it cannot be proven or disproven.

The lines offensive line was full of drive killers at least through the first five games that I watched. Holds, false starts, penalties were bad. Hopefully they got a good Oline coach and Kneecap can bring some discipline to the unit.

That is an absurd statement.

Goff did need McVays help. From how it looked, even this season Goff still struggled to read defenses after they shifted.

McVay had to trim down the offense to help Goff be successful.

Stafford is an 11 year veteran. Nobody is going to give McVay credit for Stafford’s ability. Maybe he will get some credit for molding his game plan to Stafford’s strengths, but Stafford could go anywhere and still be a very good QB. I’m not so sure Goff can reach his peak performances under McVay ever again.

"Could have been construed" is being kind. After months of holding his tongue while alot of us pointed out the obvious, mcvay straight up said after the loss to miami, where goff had 2 god awful picks and 2 fumbles returned for touchdowns, that their was a lack of preparation, which shocked me. He even said that goff's bad reads made the offensive line look like they weren't doing their job.

That was when I jumped off the goff train. I wish him well but stafford is an upgrade, and I'm still wondering what goff meant, exactly, when he said in his first press conference in detroit that speaking to his new, inexperienced coach, it was a "breath of fresh air"

It's not so much a "limitation" when it comes to reading defenses as it is inexperience. The more you see, the less you are surprised. Pocket passers don't have the ability to scramble their way out of being fooled. That's why it takes longer for them to develop.

Its not a limitation its just inexperience?? 5 years of starting experience as an NFL quarterback isnt enough time to develop and learn how to read a defense?? Are you kidding me? Everyone knows you're arguably the biggest Goff apologist on this site, but this take is asinine. Look how many 1st year starters are making a huge impact early in their career and can read defenses much better than Goff. And to doubt McVays assessment when it comes to evaluating a QB and think you know more is one of the most arrogant things people can do around here.

The guy turned a mid round Kirk Cousins into a good NFL QB, and transformed Goff from a bust into a solid NFL starter who had a pro-bowl year. If he says Goff can't read a defense and has limitations, that means he does, regardless of what you say because you don't want to admit you were wrong about Goff. These articles have confirmed what MANY around here have been saying since the Super Bowl.

You're forgetting the two dropped INTs that hit Miami literally right in the hands. Goff should have had 6 turnovers that game. After @Merlin posted screen shots I went back and watched the film and it was Goff's worst game as a pro. No ability to adjust protection, missed at least 4 wide open hot routes on zero blitz looks. Just completely overwhelmed and shell shocked. Yet people hilariously tried to blame McVay for that loss. Crazy how people can lie to themselves after seeing evidence with their own eyes.

Oh, Mcvay has made plenty of mistakes but some of that is due to the QB he has to work with. If he doesn't trust him, he's going to make more bad/too conservative play calls. I'm not saying all of mcvay's mistakes are due to goff's short comings but if a coach feels they can't use their entire playbook and have to call a game around the QB's weaknesses, that's a problem, and I don't see that being a problem with Stafford.

While I like your attention to detail, you just ruined 2 months of therapy by reminding that game was worse than my therapist let on.

It all balances out. If you look at his perfection vs MIN in '18 we all thought he could develop into a star. Just unfortunate how someone can have great arm talent, but lacking in other areas really puts a ceiling on how consistently good you can be. Goff is a great dude and sucks how his tenure ended in LA, but McVay has very high standards. And based on these articles it seems like the locker room was turning on Goff.
