We've made it through wet balls and denial and hate and somehow survived another Goff thread. So great to see everyone getting along...

I do not think the Lions are rebuilding a team around Goff.
I think the Lions draft or acquire Goffs replacement in either
2022 or 23. I think they see Goff as bridge QB until they get the
QB they want.

I think Goff ends up being a backup QB within two years.
That's not to say his career as a starter is over.
I could easily see him turning into a really good QB later
in his career. But I think it will take Goff completely dedicating
himself to the game for that to happen.

This is my humble opinion and I'm sure many will disagree and that's all good.
But I see Goff as not being the brightest of QB's or someone who has ever put everything
he has in the work away from practice. Because he is still making the same mistakes
he made as a Ram. And all of this is magnified in Detroit, because of their absence of
talent around him.
Maybe having to play in his current situation is what he needs to become the best he can be.
Wish nothing but the best for him

I disagree with pretty much everything you stated here (I know some are sarcastic).

He needs an above average center and decent receivers.

Every QB could use a decent running game.

And every QB could use a decent defense (look at Stafford's win/loss with Detroit as an example).

As to the no pressure - I only state that 1 out of every 5 plays with pressure up the middle is too much.

Unfortunately every QB won't have everything perfect all the time, that's when the QB has to make plays. He had all the support last season. If it weren't for defensive heroics, they wouldn't be even in playoff contention (which is why I'm so damn bitter thinking of that at the very thought).

Honestly I'm just over the whole "blame the OL and especially Austin Blythe" thing. I'm just continued to be amazed man. I've been following football a long long time and I've NEVER heard or read anyone blaming a center so much to defend a guy that is second behind crab legs Jameis Winston in TOs. How many passes does he get? His rookie year was under a bad coach. OK, I can buy that to a certain extent. But now it's too cold, he needs receivers, he needs warm and dry weather, he needs this, needs that etc etc.

To me, having all these prerequisites to be fulfilled to be a good QB probably means something is being covered up, and in this case its his TOs.

1. The Stafford interception was tipped. I had to rewind it several times to confirm this. The defenders finger barely brazed it but right after you see the ball rotation change.

2. Goff’s fumbles are a problem. Staffords ball security and poise under pressure are clear upgrades thus far. What he does in the playoffs and potentially a Super Bowl remains to be seen. Goff’s performance against the Saints to put us in the super bowl, including playoff wins ca the Cowboys, Seattle and Atlanta is something Stafford has not yet done.

3. Every QB makes bad decisions and doesn’t “see the open guy”. To act as if this is unique to Goff is a silly argument. Watch Stafford with Henderson wide open over the middle vs the bears and taking a sack. Watch Stafford not see a wide open Higbee on 3rd down in the red zone vs the colts. We could do this all day and it’s truly disingenuous cherry picking.

4. I’m loving Stafford and think he can get better in our offense. But for those that think he’s the 2nd coming of Jesus - you might want to watch the film a little closer. Stafford had 8 erratic short to medium throws via the colts. But if you mention this people get their panties all up in a bunch. Stafford can get better and needs to get better if we are going to be a top offense that can put up 31 ppg as we did in 2018 and 2019.

5 Thee QB wins thing is bullshit and you all know it. Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl. Neither did Jim Kelly. Trent Dilfer did. So with that logic Trent Dikfer is better. Yea ok. Games are won by teams not QB’s alone. Detroit as we all know is a bad bad team and organization - it will take a while to rebuild it.

6. I don’t see this conversation ever ending so people should get used to it. That doesn’t mean we don’t all support Stafford and the Rams. I root hard for Stafford and love what he is doing and the strengths he brings us. There is no reason we can’t continue to have mature conversations surrounding the trade while still realizing we all have the same goal in mind - a Rams Super Bowl win!

Goff seems to do okay with outside pressures where he can step up but last year the majority of them came from the inside because of Blythe doing his ole job. And I have stated many many many times that Goff sucks on inside pressures.
Maybe you could show your work on this. Most of the fumbles I recall we're from outside rushers hitting him. He had a couple from up the gut but I remember it quite the opposite.

I was one of the biggest Goff defenders that I knew and voiced my objection to the trade even though I also liked/like Stafford. Pressure came through the middle - sure enough. But saying the center was causing his fumble issues is not really accurate from my seats. I would put it more on not securing the ball under pressure. I watched Stafford use his off hand to secure the ball and still get off the throw.

One of Goff's strengths coming out of college was his ability to move in the pocket and his footwork - always chopping those feet. The last two years, it seemed he lost that connection and actually got worse while also making bad reads.

I have nothing against Goff - quite the contrary. But what's done is done. I think we all see Stafford as an upgrade. Time will tell if the trade was worth the capital given up.

I'm just not in the camp of wringing my hands and castigating this regime for making the move.

Goff has had two other coaches and McVay only had one other QB, Wolford and he won with him too.
You mean the qb who couldn't score a single offensive touchdown while the other one put up 30+ points everytime against the same team? Yea let's not go there, that's a very weak argument.

There's a difference between making a bad decision every now and then. All part of the game.

Having multiple "bad decisions" in multiple games is another thing entirely. And that's JG's problem in a nutshell which can cost games, and in the case last year a division title and at least one home playoff game.

Just...IDK what to say. There's a huge reason teams always try to trade up in the draft for a QB, pay the QBs the most money, and cutting bait with their incumbents the moment they have the opportunity. By this logic every team should focus on the unrealistic goal of getting the rest of the team to perfection and stick any ole average joe in and they'll become perennial playoff contenders. It just doesn't happen. How can Seattle's defense lose everyone on defense, lines, yet still somehow become annual playoff contenders? Why the hell did the damn 49ers trade up for Trey Lance then? They already have an average joe at QB. Tom Brady leaves NE and all of a sudden they go 7-9 and miss the playoffs. Peyton Manning = good team. Curtis Painter = shit team. Andrew Luck = playoff team again.

Trent Dilfer was the one anomaly where an average QB happened to be on a team with an absolute HISTORIC defense to become a SB winner. How many Trent Dilfers have won a SB since? I can think of only one...Eli Manning. And at least he made the throw to Mario Manningham in the SB. JG probably would've held on to it longer, thrown it late, and picked. And he had PLENTY of time to do it.

Games are one by QBs not only making the plays, AND by them not fucking them up either. That's what it all boils down to.

Flacco also, but again with an historic defense.

You make a lot of sense for once:laugh4:. I’d like to extrapolate.

Teams draft QBs early every year. Few of them work out. Some are good enough but not quite the total package. Kirk Cousins for example. Washington didn’t want to pay him. He wasn’t worth the contract in their opinion. The Browns and Ravens have to make that decision soon also. Hopefully one of them doesn’t trade for Rodgers or Watson next winter.

Bradford is another example. It’s not a question of potential. He was pretty good when he left the Rams, but he was never - ‘That guy’. The one who is a no doubt top five or ten type.

Teams that take these types like Goff and Bridgewater either are desperate for a QB and think they can fix the flaws, or are looking for a stop gap. But good teams close to the cap prefer not to pay them top five money and after 5 years decide they are not likely to win it all with that QB. Or the team gets giddy with the development and signs the guy i.e. Flacco and Goff.

Unfortunately, star QBs don’t come available often. Stafford was a no brainer. A windfall. Too good to pass up situation. If he doesn’t become available, then it is likely that Goff is still in L.A. fighting Wolford for a the starting spot. Still fighting with McVay because the coach wants more than Jarred can consistently deliver. Or we are watching Rodgers or waiting for DeSean Watson to get through his legal battles while Goff is in Houston.
