Here's that little shit Mike Florio and his buddy Chris Simms take on Jared Goff. Florio has always dumped on Goff from the very beginning and you can expect him to continue to pile on after every Lions loss.

From a comment: "And 0-1 with Mcvay in Super Bowls."

I am trying to stay away

But just to comment on 0-9, both teams are/were complete piles of shit - what can you expect

2016 - Boras as OC who I considered the worst OC in the history of football - he has been the TE coach for the last 5 years tells you something
2021 - Detroit Lions are considered to have some of the worst personnel that other GMs have commented on

Detroit will be lucky to go 5 - 12 this year

They could attempt to go for the worst record in football history with that personnel and I doubt Stafford would have done better than 5 - 12 with that team.

That maybe he goes off in one of those games and gets the dub. Just one of them.

Either way I find the quote particularly insightful re: the sentiment that is out there that McVay was Goff's problem. Clearly that is not the case.

It would have been a miracle to win any of those games

You can't go off when 50% of the passes under Boras had ALL receivers running 5 to 10 yard patterns.

I re-watched those games and counted the number of times pass plays under Boras had ALL 5 receivers within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.

Boras was just horrible.

Just to give you a comparison

Darnold - last year 2-14 with a shitty ass Jets team

This year - hmmm - 2-0 with a better team (wouldn't call them great by any means)

Sometimes the quarterback can only do so much

Darnold did manage to get a couple wins with that terrible Jets team. They must not have been as terrible as the Rams were.

I could say - after 13 games

Goff only had 7 games but now we are just cherrypicking lol

And if not for the defense giving up 2 TDs in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter against SF (one of which had a 2 pt conversion)

And I think the Lions are even worse than the Jets this year (at least the Jets last year had a semblance of a defense).

Here's a weird stat but it could be telling (or not).

Through 2 games last year, we had 11 pass plays of 20 yards or more. 4 of those 30 or more. 1 of those 40 or more.

This year?

Through 2 games we have 6 pass plays of 20 yards or more. 5 of those 30 or more. 4 of those 40 or more. 2 of those 50 or more.

And last year with those 11 plays of 20 yards or more we had 1 TD.
This year in 6 we have 2 TD.

I think most of us want JG to do well, but I am more than happy with our new franchise QB.

Found myself cheering on Jared and will do so for the remainder of his career. It was a shame that the rain came when it did he couldn’t seem to grasp the ball cleanly. That fumbled snap was the game changer.

You can make all the excuses in the world for him. But Hockenson is a top 3 TE in the NFL and a complete stud. Quintez Cephus is an up and coming star and a #1 WR. That kid is fucking good. Swift is a beast and Williams is one of the best backup RBs in the league. Its a great 1-2 punch at RB. Plus Goff has the #1 OL in the NFL. They didn't give up one pressure against GB. Not one. All these things and he didn't score a single point in the 2nd half. Two turnovers and another fumble.

Detroit's defense is not good at all and they will be down in a lot of games. But Goff has some legit weapons around him and the best OL in the league. So they should be able to put up points regardless of what happens with their defense.

I'm not wading through this thread or responding to anyone. I just have one comment.

The one and only 2020 Stafford game with Detroit that I happened by accident to watch was, guess what, week 2 against Green Bay. And guess what-- the result and the QB play were about the same for Detroit.

Lions took an early lead and folded, losing 42-21. No defense. Stafford was 20-33 for 244, 2 tds and 1 int. The int was a pick 6. He was also called for intentional grounding, took a couple of sacks deep in his own zone, had a flip throwaway called as a fumble before it was reversed, and gave the ball back to Rodgers at midfield after a three and out with 1:30 left in the first half, resulting in a GB td to take the lead for the rest of the game.

The more that changes the more that is the same.

I'm not debating Detroit sucks with any quarterback be it Matt Stafford, Jared Goff or Gary Danielson :sunglasses:

The numbers you responded to were Jared Goff with the Rams 2020 and Matt Stafford with the Rams 2021. You don't find it "odd" Goff had almost 50% more pass plays of 20 yards or more than Stafford but the 2021 Rams scored 100% more TDs on them?

Here's something else on Goff (and perhaps what happened to him regardless of "why"):

2017-2020..........Pass plays of 20+..........Pass plays of 40+.........Longest pass

2017..........................57..................................13..............................94t
2018..........................69...................................9...............................70t
2019..........................73...................................6...............................66
2020..........................47...................................6...............................56t

To be honest Tano I was sort of just stirring the pot with all that. I don't really think Goff should have had X number of wins outside of McVay or anything.

Change thread title to “That Goff is a pretty good guy.” We can probably all agree on that. Problem solved.
