If Stafford retires after this season how does that affect the Cap? No clue. Where's the Board Capologist who knows?

An objective account imo would be that the Rams' roster and McVay's offense weren't good enough in 2019 and 2020 to make a Super Bowl run. Once Gurley was hobbled the break out potential was gone. They still had winning records both years (9-7 and 10-6). Goff won a playoff game for them in Seattle with a broken thumb in 2021.

Right now Goff's last two years here are looking pretty damn good compared with the Rams since their 2021 championship.

It's true that Goff didn't handle the middle of the oline breaking down in front of him very well. The interior line (-Saffold, +Blythe) couldn't consistently protect Goff, a classic dropback qb who steps into his throws. Also true that McVay that wanted a QB with a quick delivery who could make off schedule plays under pressure--- because he thought his offense couldn't succeed without it.

In any event plainly McVay and Goff weren't on the same page. McVay, intentionally or otherwise, then shifted the narrative and the blame to Goff for the Rams failure to make deep playoff runs in 2019 and 2020. Which imo was immature if not shameful behavior unworthy of an outstanding coach.
Your entire argument reads like a chain of excuses and that is why I tired of him as our QB. It was excuse excuse excuse and even the coach tired of him shitting his pants when the rush touched him. So talk to me when Goff wins something. And prior to that let's agree to disagree.

I never saw Goff shit his pants under pressure. When the Rams let Saffold walk and Sullivan retired the middle of the Line wasn't up to par. Middle pressure was causing problems with Goff's mechanics. He needs to step into his throws.

Then you weren't watching. He shit his pants under pressure. He missed clear rushers in his LOS reads over and over. He was not favored by protections but required perfection around him to operate at the required level. It is what it is. But you're another Goff apologist who will never agree with me on that so let's disagree and clear this nonsense from this thread.

As to Stafford, who this thread is actually about, he has played like dogshit since the Super Bowl. But if I was like you I'd be blaming everything other than him.

Goff has been the same in my opinion. What changed was what was around him. Same guy in 2018 that he was in 2019. Stayed cool under pressure but struggled with mechanics when pressured up the middle. We can disagree.

You have it exactly backwards. Goff's performance with the Rams doesn't require excuses. It was pretty damn good. But when someone calls it out, as you did, it's fair to respond. And imo it's about time for a reassessment of Goff who is now leading the second top 5 offense of his career.

What needs revision is the absurd narrative that Goff was a bad quarterback who was primarily responsible for the Rams failure to achieve more even while they continued to have winning seasons in 2019 and 2020. Fed by McVay's impatience and his inability to address his own weaknesses as head coach and roster builder, suddenly Goff was a bum.

Of course, the reality is that Goff's and Stafford's and almost any QB's performances are very highly dependent on the talent and coaching around them. Football 101. Imo the Rams in 2019 and 2020 played up to their overall talent and coaching. Goff's performance reflected the offense's inconsistency-- in particular the oline failure to protect on the downfield passing plays which, as we all know, McVay loved to call and keep calling. No matter what.

If you want to continue to blame the team's performance at that time on Goff, fine, go ahead. Agree to disagree. But just imagine for a moment applying that kind of standard to Stafford who had eight losing seasons and never won a playoff game in Detroit.

Now Goff is the QB of another team which, like the Rams, he helped rebuild from nowhere and nothing to a top offense in the league. That kind of lightning doesn't strike twice without some commonality of high level performance and leadership by the quarterback.

And if you want more winning, stay tuned.

Oh Jesus Christ. Go get a fucking tattoo of his face on your ass cheek for all I care. And let's disagree, I eagerly await your excuses when he gets bounced from the playoffs this year.
Thanks. Have a nice day.

Still a mystery what happened between Goff and McVay. Stafford throws pick 6's and McVay thinks he's a stud. Goff turns it over and he roasts his balls in the media. No idea what's going on there.

That’s because McVay used to hate losing

He had something to prove after losing that first Super Bowl and Goff was easy to blame. I'll go on record saying I think Stafford is a better QB than Goff and a big reason we won the Super Bowl. But I also believe McVay shit the bed in the first Super Bowl and got completely outcoached by BB. Goff was working with what he had and showed who he always was.

If he has 2 losing seasons in a row its fair to call him overrated.
2 Super Bowls, won one of them.
We sold fucking out and are now paying the price.
Pretty simple.
I say, draft, draft draft and actually let him pick the players that will be with him for a long time.

I'm actually curious what makes you think allowing mcvay to pick his players is gonna accomplish? You realize he's only drafted 1 pro bowler in his tenure right? It's not that I don't agree it's just mcsnead hasn't shown they can actually build through the draft.

How many high picks has he had ?
Bunch of winners in this last draft.

Who fault is that? He's the one trading them all away and just having high picks doesn't mean anything. We always say that the 1st year then they turn out to be solid starters at best. That's not good enough to compete for a championships.

Goff definitely was a mess when dealing with pressure towards the end of his Rams tenure (really, worse than the panicking under pressure, was the inability to hold onto the football when that pressure got home as opposed to simply conceding the sack - how many times did he fumble?!). But I think, just as much as anything else, that was due to a complete and total lack of confidence towards the end. Which I'd place in huge part on McVay. The play calling was also poor. The Ram's offensive line had a very down year in there, I believe around 2018. Rather than adjust his play calling - or even just catering to Goff's strengths and weaknesses somewhat, independent of the offensive line composition - McVay kept calling the same old plays, throwing Goff to the wolves. Then blaming Jared when things went wrong.

It feels like McVay has always wanted an arm like Stafford's for his offense. If his QB doesn't have it? Too bad. He's calling it anyway. If his o-line can't sustain it? Too bad. He's calling it anyway. And we are even seeing that with Stafford right now, who is taking a beating and getting hurt all for nothing as the offense simultaneously sputters two years running. With Goff towards the end, both things were true, making things doubly bad.
