When you're second in TD passes, 6th in passer rating and 4th in QBR. I don't care nearly as much about how many INTs were thrown.
Oh and when you're tied for the third best record in the NFL.
At the end of the day, we made this trade for the post-season. Turnovers matter a lot there. But so do points. Stafford needs to strike the right balance. Stafford's season has been a tale of two halves. Look at his production over the first 8 games versus his production over the final 9 games. Granted, the schedule was far easier in the first 8 games.
First 8 Games
68.9% completion percentage
2477 passing yards (309.6 per game)
22 passing TDs (2.75 per game)
4 Ints (0.5 per game)
0 Fumbles Lost
9.1 YPA
118.0 passer rating

Final 9 Games
65.9% completion percentage
2409 passing yards (267.7 per game)
19 passing TDs (2.1 per game)
13 Ints (1.4 per game)
2 Fumbles Lost
7.3 YPA
90.4 Passer Rating

Gotta have the less turnover prone Stafford for the playoffs.

as always, good post jrry...

i think we all agree, stafford is an upgrade, but some of us wonder, on some throws, what was he thinking?..

i guess we all get to go through the good cop, bad cop matt staff, and hopefully we get a lot of good cop stafford the rest of the year...

call me skeptical, hopeful and, yes less confident...

anything can happen.. let's hope the breaks go our way...

it's the nfl and on any given sunday (or monday) ..

go rams

I fear we have a better, more consistent version of Wentz, where it still comes down to "hero ball" & poor decisions that result in silly costly mistakes that can't be made when playing big games where every possession must be valued.

I couldn't give a rat's arse about the turnovers. As long as they score enough points to overcome them.

You think Martz and Warner cared about ints here and there? They knew they would score plenty of more points.

Let's see how the playoffs go. This is why they traded for Stafford. Can they win the superbowl or did they throw away a young qb, 2 1sts and a 3rd for nothing.

The game was different 20 years ago. When you're going against guys like Rodgers and Brady, turnovers matter.

You both make good points. Stafford saw an opportunity for a touchdown that wins the game and OBJ had his man beaten deep. My question would be whether Stafford saw it late or whether his arm is not quite as strong or perhaps more likely he was hampered planting his foot by the stinger on his toe? Either way if that had gone over the top of the OBJs shoulder it was a touchdown and game over with us winning

As it is, I like the potential match up with the Bucs if the 9ers pound the Cowboys and meet the Packers in the next round. So history might have been smiling after all :)

It is hilarious that people keep bringing these types of examples up when Brady threw three INTs in Lambeau last year yet the Bucs won the NFCCG

Is it hilarious? Brady threw 7 TDs to 0 Ints in the other three playoff games. And he didn't throw any Ints until Tampa was up 28-10 in the second half against Green Bay. Throwing those Ints nearly allowed Green Bay to come back and win the game. C'mon man.

yeah it not just the two picks its all high round picks snead has traded away. if we had all those high picks going way back we not only could more than likely have a far better ol but also inside lb and a lot sounder df back field. but can't cry over spilt milk all we can do is root for us to put it all together and win the bowl.
In addition, look at how much cap space we have blown away. How much more talent could we have with another 25 to 30mil every year?

Stafford had an objectively awesome season.

I'm still conflicted about the overall worth because of critical turnovers, but he's had spectacular moments, for sure.

The reality is that the price probably *is* worth it in the marketplace when you look at the price for guys who are total failures like Wentz and Darnold.

So, I'd have to eat my words from Sunday about this. Again... I still feel like a guy who you paid two firsts shouldn't be ending a game in overtime with that kind of decision and throw.. AND.. in the NFL today, Stafford is still worth those two picks.

Umm, kind of lost a SB due to some costly turnovers didn't we?

You said you can't turn the ball over against Aaron Rodgers and win.

The Bucs did it three times and still won in Lambeau just last year. So yes, it's hilarious that people keep saying that because it was disproved just last year. I get the overall concern. But even if Stafford played perfectly against GB earlier this year, that game still would have been a toss up.

With AD and Ramsey, that should not be the case. A perfect game from Stafford should result in a blow out of almost any team, which is the point I was getting at. Sure, Stafford playing turnover free will certainly help. But our defense the last two years has looked atrocious against Rodgers and it's even more important that changes, or a perfect game from Stafford would be wasted.

Did I? Would you like to quote that? Because what I said is quite literally on this page (scroll up), and it isn't that.
