Gaines was our 4th quarter lol , this is a great trade for us and if it doesn't work out no big loss
I liked Gaines and I liked the depth, but, hate to give up the pick.
This is a move for a team winning now. Don't know if I see that.
Draft a TE and two WR, Austin under a big contract.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
This would make our main three, whom?
Watkins, Woods, Kupp?
Austin getting less time or does his contract force him in the field.
Is McVey going to minimize the running game?
Right side of the O line? Please.
To me this raises more questions than it answers.

Who says he's that hurt? McVay says it's a hammy, so when the trainers say so. What if they were holding him out so he doesn't get hurt, and fail a physical?

Point taken JDR, I forgot that they did say it was day-to-day with him. Probably could pass physical but what GM in their right mind would trade for a guy who's not even practicing right now??

Did I say he wasn't? You give up a 2nd round pick for an injury prone WR on a contract year. Big risk. If it works out and he stays healthy that's great. But now you have to pay him and hope he remains healthy for the remainder of his playing career.
Watkins is absolutely worth a 2nd rounder and getting a 6th for Gaines is a good deal as he's just as injury prone if not more than Watkins. Gaines and his lisfranc injury will always be just as much a question mark as anybody. When healthy Watkins is absolutely a #1 WR we desperately need all we've heard is criticism that our WR group wasn't good enough. Yes it's a risk to pay Watkins after this year but a 2nd round pick isn't a sure thing either. We upgraded our offense and didn't hurt our defense as Gaines was looking like the #4 or #5 CB on the depth chart. Our CB room is fine our WR had questions. Well worth the trade IMO.

The bummer is we gave up Gaines and a pick for a guy on the last year of his contract. Not sure how I feel about that.

Sammy Watkins
Robert Woods
Cooper Kupp
Tavon Austin

This WR core is probably the best it's been since Torry Holt left. This is a great move!

I was checking rotoworld for NFL news and had to do a double take to believe it. I literally buzzed over it and then saw it before i closed the page . They had it really small and not very noticeable. They had the breaking Zeke news on top so that had my attention more.

Austin's job at X is gone. And while I don't think he gets traded right away, maybe they'll offload him by end of preseason. If not:

- he'll now be our sometimes 3rd down back - think about it! Can't block but we'll have him go out on some routes from the backfield.

- he'll definitely stay at punt return now.

- Doubt he takes the slot spot from Kupp but could be an interesting #4 receiver.
