Personally I think the bar for Stetson is set pretty low. I don't think anyone sees him as the heir apparent to Stafford. He was drafted as a role player, i.e. to replace Wolford. In that regard I think he's far better than John. IMO that is really the context he should be viewed in.

Case in point, no one expects Sony Michel to replace Akers. He can if needed but that is not why he's going to be on the roster. He provides them with a veteran backup and solid 3rd down, i.e. pass blocking RB. As a pass blocker in the backfield, Sony is undoubtedly the best. If the Rams are behind late and have to throw every down he's the guy that I want back there making sure Stafford has time to throw. That's his role and in that role he's as good as you are going to get as a FA signing.

If anyone is going to replace Akers long term it will be Evans.

But Stetson is a work in progress to even be that backup. It wouldn't surprise me if the Rams carried 3 QBs this year giving Stetson plenty of time to develop into the role. IMO the issue with Stetson isn't talent it's mental. How long will he be willing to be a backup, considering he's already older than most rookie QBs. If the Rams draft their next franchise QB next year the backup role will chafe on Stetson who IMO will want out in 2025.

Man, took him 2 months to sign his 1st contract...must have low business IQ.

Because of what I just said it could be a reason for it dragging on as they will want to keep guaranteed money to a minimum. Also, all drafted rookies waited to be signed because of the Ram's lack of cap to sign them a point I made in another thread. The only part of a drafted rookie's contract that is negotiable is in reality the guaranteed money.

Lamar Jackson didnt sign his extension for months and landed a monster deal. Doesnt seem as though waiting it out was bad business for him either

Why do you have to criticize him? Its good business IQ if it took longer to get what he was looking for.
Thought you put him on ignore. Or is this little ego duel going to continue for several more pages.

When did I do that?
What ego duel? I dont think criticizing Bennett's IQ over the time it took him to sign his contract is acceptable but who can tell what the rules are these days?

Dude. Just let it die. This little feud you have going with Philly got old a long time ago. We're not here for petty bitch fests. Philly's last little dig was clearly a joke but I still told him it was time to let it die. You need to do the same. Be done with it.

I wonder what the Niners" expectations were for Brock Purdy "Mr Irrevelant." You just never know. For sure it will be interesting to see how Stet progresses during preseason games .. Maybe we get lucky .. I agree he's most likely to be a significant upgrade over "Wolfie".

if Bennett was 2 inches taller he would have been a first round draft choice.

How many of you can all remember the anticipation of how good Brock was going to be until you actually saw him play and then realized, yeah, he is just a CFL guy

I think the first time I saw him was a preseason game. Might have been the HOF game...I forget, but it was disappointing.

As a newcomer to this forum, I have to ask: is this the longest thread we’ve had for a player who has yet to play a single snap for us?

Let me introduce you to my little friend..

Tutu Atwell.

ah yea man, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
You should have seen some of the Goff ones, @TexasRam knows all about them! He still has his Goff PJ’s he wears to bed every night!

I guess he was better than I remember: "Brock signed with the Los Angeles Rams as a 34-year-old rookie, setting the NFL record for oldest rookie quarterback in history. Despite the team's star running back Eric Dickerson holding out the first two games over a contract dispute, Brock led the team to a 7-0 start, a feat no other quarterback would accomplish in their first season with a team again until Ben Roethlisberger started 13-0 with the Steelers in 2004.[4] Brock led the team to a division title, the #2 seed in the NFC playoffs, and set team rookie records for passing yards (2,658), touchdown passes (16), and passer rating (81.8) (most of his rookie passing records have since been broken). Brock's final game was the 1985 NFC Championship Game against the Chicago Bears, where he only managed 66 yards passing and lost a fumble that Wilber Marshall returned for a touchdown to close out the scoring in a 24-0 game."
