Allen was walking backwards when bull rushed. That has nothing to do with Boom and Blythe. He needs size in addition to strength. I'm not sure if he has that yet.

Have to agree, plus Allen's snaps were erratic, the one thing Blythe did very well was snapping the football in shotgun formation, Allen's snaps were not consistent as Goff had to move quickly to ensure the ball would not go awry.

Overall, that's what I want to see, if the added strength as @bubbaramfan eluded to has made Allen more stout and his snaps. Overall, I have more confidence in Bobby Evans then Brian Allen, but we have a few preseason games this year to evaluate accordingly.

Just sayin two years is a lot of time to improve, especially when you're practicing against one of the best DL's in the NFL. That Allen is getting reps with the 2nd team tells me they think he's made some improvement. Granted it's just OTA's and a lot can change (and will IMHO), before opening day.

He looks bigger, we shall see if it translates well in preseason.

Personally I don’t know how it won’t.IMO there will be some surprises.Austin Corbett is going to have to play well to start.

Bobby Evans was playing really well in the Playoffs.A few people posting around here stated go back & look at how bad he was against Green Bay.Everyone views game day play differently. He will push for a starting spot.I also think The Rams are going to resign Joesph Noteboom for sure.
Austin Corbett is also playing for a contract which will make The 2021 interesting to see how this thing gets rebuilt?

Brian Allen he came into camp to compete. He has an excellent DNA his family are one of those basement type in a Aaron Donald. Not saying
anything more than his work ethic as a undersized body type.

The great point that you brought up on who was starting next to Allen when the 2019 season began has escaped most all here::facepalm:

Again just for review, Austin Blythe was the starting RG next to Allen ....Blythe was never a good performing RG & has been only a JAG as a starting NFL center....how much did that affect Allen's play?:not:

Joseph Noteboom was the first time starting OL'er in 2019 & that was at LG. A position he had never played in college. The entire NFL world knew Noteboom was not a good playing OG but he got the job next to Allen. It took two yrs for Kromer to get a clue. How much did having Noteboom playing next to Allen's left affect him? :not:

I hope they can coach up Evans on his pass pro, because he's a mauler in the run game and I'd love to see him start mainly for that reason. If he's not a liability (or better yet, is an asset) in pass pro, that would really help this team.
Having Bobby Evans lined up as the starting RG was certainly expected. BE has been for the most part the #6 Reserve OL'er since the middle of the 2019 season with Noteboom being injured those two seasons. With starts during that time @ RT & LG (7 @ RT & 2 @ LG).

Many ROD'ers believe BE was a highly effective run blocking LG late last season filling in the last regular season gm & then for the 2 playoff gms for the injured LG David Edwards who Achilles had gave him trouble over the last quarter of 2020. I do not.

Rams have him listed as an OT. I thought BE was a much more complete OL'er @ starting RT than @ starting LG myself. However, it's been written that BE was far better playing the right side than the left side when he came out of college & draft projections. So OL coach Carberry would seem to have planned BE's new starting position using all his consumed information.

Yes, they were then. Most likely because Allen started far more college gms at OG than @ OC.

I would expect that Corbett will win that starting battle for OC up against Allen & Shelton. Those two long-term interior reserve Ram OL'ers (Allen/Shelton) will now be fighting for work @ all three interior positions. Just not sure how well Allen will do working from the OG posts but he was a very effective blocking OG in college.

That battle for that RG post looks to be much more of a war than @ center IMO. The competition for Evan's RG post will be intense & I would expect any number of possibilities as far to wins that RG post (Tremayne Anchrum/ Chandler Brewer/ Brian Allen/ Jordan Meredith /Coleman Shelton & Alaric Jackson ).

I would almost say that Blythe was a better Guard than he was a Center.
But the same thing applies, (to at least a little percentage) that Blythe played between Sullivan and Havenstein and that may have helped his play.

I blame Allen's problem on getting overpowered on pass protection and half ass in the run game on Allen.

He looked that bad but let's hope he turned it around.
Didn't Allen end up breaking somebody's leg on a play?
I hate to even bring that up but it doesn't give you much confidence from your teammates if they're looking out for you and the player(s) they're trying to block.

Hey.
I'm hoping that Carberry can turn Allen into a pro bowl player.

But I'm going to have to see it to believe it.
At this point, I would be extremely happy if he can turn Allen into a serviceable game-day active Center/ Guard.

Yes, Brian Allen was chasing the play (being overzealous) and simultaneously with the whistle, blocked the opposition in the back which propelled them downward into Joe Noteboom's knee ending Noteboom's season.

I realize you can't go by college but does Stanford's numbers tell us something about Carberry?

In 2017....a year before Carberry they were #30 in rushing (202 ypg; 5.9 ypc), #99 in passing (186 ypg), #80 in total O (384 ypg)
In 2018.....#123 in rushing (107 ypg; 3.6 ypc), #25 in passing (273 ypg), #85 in total offense (380 ypg)
2019.....#123 in rushing (105 ypg; 3.7 ypc), #37 in passing (262 ypg), #97 in total offense (368 ypg)
2020....#95 in rushing (133 ypg; 4.1 ypc), #22 in passing (287 ypg), #45 in total offense (420 ypg)

Playing to the whistle is not being over zealous.

What I know about Stanford is there whole Offensive Line was injured. He held The Young guys together & beat Washington I believe? He was a Solid O”Line coach. Then you go back to his time with Sean Mcvay & it comes together that this will be a good fit.
I Like Zak Kromer as an ASSISTANT O”Line Coach as well. He has good injury & learning along Carberry together will be a good thing IMO. He really pays attention to details & has knowledge & relations with This Rams Team!!

Knowing where you are on the Field though & situations is a thing though. Whatever it was is over now & you chalk it up as a learning experience.
I think Brian Allen has a chip on his shoulder & wants to make a statement. It’s still to early to tell though.

BONIFAY’d I WILL Guarantee you if The Rams need a Guard to fill in IT WON’T be BRIAN ALLEN!!! Austin Corbett will play Guard. ALLEN will play Center!!

Disagree it was a cheap shot and it was a pile jumper move. IMO, it was unnecessary & cost the Rams Noteboom
Whatever, if you weren’t taught to play to the whistle you’re doing it wrong.

Once the initial block is over they should have their head on a swivel looking for the next nearest guy to target and go after them until the whistle.

Notebook was unlucky that someone fell into him. It happens regularly, that doesn’t mean they should stop after initial contact and stand

You see it every week where the rb is stood up and linemen come from behind to push the pile like a rugby scrum.

Refs can’t make up their minds when to blow the whistle now and want to go to replay to often. Players need to be aware, they can’t stop on a play and protect themselves.

If you notice I said you know where you are on the filed & the situation.I did not see the play actually.Maybe I did ?
Do I blame Brian Allen? No. I can say the majority believe it was,and he does need to understand where he is on the field. That Ram from Nebraska who played guard was considered a Dirty Player. There’s that.
The Niners Right guard had SJD69 took him across the line & piled on Top of him. Floyd was OLB on the Right side. If he doesn’t stop and jumps back, but keeps coming across
he would have got rolled up on.SJD69 would have been blamed for the injury.Leonard Floyd knew where he was on the field.
I don’t play the game,I just know your taught to play until you here the whistle, but if your in a loud Stadium you better know the situation that you might not here it blown.

Sorry we will agree to disagree, you don't take cheap shots, that's not the right thing to do and in Allen's case, it was late. If you're taking cheap shots, you're doing it wrong.

Even though Brian Allen has put on some muscle, he's still smaller than Corbett and is one of the smallest o-lineman if not the smallest.
