The Lions haven't scored more than 17 points in any game since week 1. In fact the last four games they've scored a total of six points in the first half. 0 TDs.

They were in the lead at the end of the game because their D kept them in it until their offense could score a TD or two. It's just asking too much for bad teams "score 17, hold them to under 17".

Outside their TE, there's nothing to like about their offense.

Score 17, hold 'em to 17... Damn... PTSD flashbacks from Fisher ball...

There is no shipping Goff off in 2022. And that's the painful reality Lions fans are understanding now. Hes due $35M next year, and if they cut or trade him I think the dead cap is like $28M or something like that. Its not possible to move off Goff if you're Detroit until AFTER 2022. So they have 11 games this year +17 next year minimum.

That's why the trade was so big for us. Many thought (myself included) there was nooooo way to cut Goff or trade him. Too much dead $ if cut, and who would take on that salary after his play in 2019 & 2020. Well... It cost us two 1st rounders and a 3rd. I still can't believe we got it done but man am I glad.

The other thing regarding him going to a new team is, McVay is so damn respected around the league. I bet if you did an anonymous poll, he would be a top 5 voted offensive mind guaranteed. Like 100% guaranteed. So the fact that McVay shipped him off really says something. If he has 4 consecutive bad years 2019-2022 you really think another team will pay him to be a starter? I really doubt it.
I recall pundits saying the Rams basically traded a first and third for Stafford and a first for the Lions to take Goff's contract off the books.

Holmes was here in 2019-2020. He knew what Goff's ceiling was. Sure he'll spin it differently but with a team needing a near total makeover getting the extra pick to eat a contract when your team is and will be under the cap for the next two to four years makes total sense. Besides, who we're they going to sign to run that offense? Case Keenum? Cam Newton hadn't been released yet. I don't think that they had many viable options.

If that team stayed healthy Goff would be playing better. He did at the beginning of the season. But he's never been one to overcome the type of adversity that they Lions currently present.

Gotta disagree. Best game I saw from Jared was the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 of 2018. He went 26 of 33 for 465 yards, 5 TDs, and 0 picks. Dude could not miss that day.

Yea this was his best game. I'm sure many still close their eyes and think this game, the Chiefs game, or the Saints game is the real Goff. The sad reality is it's not. They were outliers. A painful glimpse into what could've been in a perfect and just world. But that's not the world we live in.

The real Goff is halfway in between this game and the Miami/SF games from last year. Which puts him somewhere in the middle. If there's good talent around him, he can still slice a team up every once in a while, but will follow that up with a stinker or two. Inconsistency is his middle name. Of course this is all assuming McVay is calling plays and game planning. If McVay is not the offensive brains behind the operation, then unfortunately I think he resides in the bottom 1/3rd of NFL QBs. 0-14 without McVay is almost a full season sample size.

If Jameis Winston isn't the answer in New Orleans, I can see Asshole Face going after Goff if they could work something out.

With pieces, Goff can do pretty well, but dang if Detroit isn't the black hole of Calcutta when it comes to football franchises...

First Look: Rams return home to host Lions, seeking to extend win streak to three games

After back-to-back weeks on the road, the Rams (5-1) return home to SoFi Stadium to host the Lions (0-6) at SoFi Stadium, seeking to extend their win streak to three games. Kickoff in Inglewood, Calif. is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. pacific time on FOX.

In advance of the contest, here is your First Look at Rams vs. Lions:

Notable Lions additions:

Acquired quarterback Jared Goff and undisclosed draft picks in a trade with the Rams in March: The 2016 No. 1 overall pick was acquired as part of the package for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Goff has completed 159 of 238 pass attempts for 1,505 yards and seven touchdowns against four interceptions through six games.

Acquired defensive lineman Michael Brockers in a trade with the Rams in March: Les Snead's first draft pick as Rams general manager, Brockers has 18 total tackles and one sack through six games and a key leader for a young Lions defensive line.

Top performers in Week 6:

Goff completed 28 of 42 pass attempts for 202 yards with an interception in the Lions' 34-11 loss to the Bengals.

RB D'Andre Swift paced Detroit's backfield with 13 carries for 24 yards and one touchdown, also adding five receptions for 43 yards.

TE T.J. Hockenson led the Lions receivers with eight catches for 74 yards.

LB Derrick Barnes tallied a team-high 8 combined tackles for Detroit's defense, with cornerback Amari Oruwariye adding an interception and cornerback Jerry Jacobs a forced fumble.

On special teams, P Jack Fox averaged 55.5 yards per punt across six punts, while K Austin Seibert made his lone field goal attempt.

Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

Familiar faces in new places.

Part of the discussion going into this game will center around Goff and Brockers, as well Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, facing their former teams this week.

Goff helped the Rams enjoy a breakthrough period of success in their second season season in Los Angeles (also Sean McVay's first as Rams head coach). Brockers became a captain and well-respected veteran voice in the locker room.

Stafford, meanwhile, set franchise records for most career passing yards (45,109), most career pass completions (3,898 completions), most career passing touchdowns (282), most career game-winning drives (38) and most consecutive completed passes in a single game (14) during his 12 seasons in Detroit.

Between the three players, Goff and Brockers will return to more familiar faces than Stafford given the changes the Lions underwent this offseason, though the Rams had some personnel and coaching staff changes of their own on the defensive side of the ball from last year's top-ranked unit.

"Just like every other game, you know?" Stafford said, when asked postgame how he approach this week's matchup with the Lions. "That's an NFL opponent coming in our building. Do I have a ton of history with them? Absolutely. In pregame, am I gonna be saying 'hey' to some old teammates and friends, Ford family hopefully if they make the trip? Absolutely. I've got nothing but great relationships with people over there, so I have a lot of respect for the organization, the team and the ownership. It'll be just another football game once the ball is snapped, but I'll definitely try to say hey some people I haven't seen in awhile."

Goff and Brockers will likely take the same approach this week.

you're talking to a brick wall man. just let them be and ignore them.

we all knew this year would turn out exactly how it has transpired.

however i feel much more confident in stafford than i did with goff in 19/20. i was always pulling for him but i never had supreme confidence in him like i now do with stafford. it was always hope with goff the last couple of seasons. ultimate confidence with stafford now.

as @Mackeyser said above i hope a team like the saints try and trade for him so he will have some talent around him.

Yea if you're going to just cherry pick stats and grab Goff's best year in 2018, then go ahead and grab Stafford's best year. You know, the year he threw for 5,000 yds + 41TDs. Without McVay calling plays and scheming. Without a running game. Without a top defense. Your argument doesn't work man give that shit up.

Yep - Goff has got to get that GOOSE EGG of his back.

That rookie Jets QB has a win.His OC got hit by a car & killed around Jared Goff’s old stopping grounds growing up.Whatever the situation is you still have to find away to win without that nipple in your ear.
There was a lot said about Mcvay talking to late before the game clock.
Rule was changed because of it?

Not disrespecting Goff, but making him earn it.Nick Foles won a SuperBowl.Jeff Fisher was not a good HC. I could go into a new OC theory as well. Tom Brady is amazing at how he just wins.

Yep. It's almost like he dropped all of his dimes in that one game... Dude was MONEY in that game... and the QB who had 2 strip sacks wasn't Goff.

If that game is Goff's ceiling, there's a reason folks get frustrated with him... because that game was outrageous. Unfortunately, it seems like an outlier, a data point that needs to be thrown out when considering the entire data set to establish trends and things like ceilings and floors.

Also, if the dude steps back after this year with $100M in NFL earnings and a very hot fiancee, then more power to him. But if he really wants to make it in this league, he's gonna have to go harder. Or, he could maybe be the next Sam Bradford...

I could definitely see that happening...
That Minnesota game also was awesome by Goff.

Two awesome games in the same year.

The contract wasn't that horrible for the lions though.

25 M for 3 years - not horrible for even an average QB at the QB rates that is out there now

And - they can get rid of Goff next year by eating 15 M and the next year after that for nothing.

That's total nonsense.
Wolford put in more work? That's a joke.
He did exactly what a scrub needs to do in order to make the team.
Again, there's enough to criticize in Goff's game and enough justification in watching Stafford play that resorting to the grade school internet nonsense is just lame
McVay himself lauded Goff's work ethic. I'll take his word for it
I have always been of the opinion that the QB should always be the first one in and the last one out.

From what I have heard, he did just enough to satisfy McVay.

Can you blame me for wanting more.

And remember, I thought Goff was great but made stupid decisions from time to time and I am thinking that if he was the first one in and the last one out, that extra time spent may have kept him from making as many stupid decisions.

Miami game is a perfect example. If he spent the extra time, maybe he sees that a WR screen will work against Miami's Cover 0 defense and audibles into that play.

Just a thought on my part.

Blast away but that's how I feel.

It's just asking too much for bad teams "score 17, hold them to under 17".
Nobody saying they have to hold teams under 17, but what is being said is that when the offense gives the team the lead late, and immediately thereafter the opposition is on their own 16 yard line with 26 sec left or their own 18 with 33 sec left, you've got to win those games. There is no excusing the defense in either situation.

There were times when I loved how Jared played, with e NFCCG in Nawlins being the most impressive for me. I think everyone was pulling for him to do well, because he was our guy, like it or not.

I hope the fans at SoFi give him and Brockers a standing ovation, honoring his time here. We have a better QB now in Matthew Stafford and that's what happens in this business, but thanks Jared for everything you tried to do.

Egads, that's enough to make one pine for the glory days of Brian Quick, Kenny Britt, and Tavon Austin.
That's like comparing All Pros to College receivers lol (and I in no way think Quick Britt or Austin were even remotely close to being All Pros)

We are talking an all time horrible receiver group at Detroit right now.

The only thing saving Goff even remotely is Hockenson.

Martz sending Warner out in that 2nd half after what was CLEARLY a big concussion was the epitome of criminal.

that Warner had balls of steel and threw for 300 yards, 3 TDs and nearly won the game only shows why Warner is in the HoF and Martz can't get a job with a D3 school.

Short of Bill Callahan quitting on the Raiders during their Super Bowl run, Martz's treatment of Warner was maybe the grossest example of terrible coaching I've ever witnessed.
And why you really can't blame Warner for choosing to be associated with the Cards rather than the Rams. Also the Rams dissed is wife.

That's why I can't wait for Stafford to break every record that Kurt made here, including Super Bowl wins.
