Of course, no one wants to believe it, but I'm watching these interviews and listening to McVay and watching his body language and it sure seems to me that he wants to start Wolford over Goff. And Goff's thumb injury gave him the excuse to make the change.

And now Wolford's stringer may have killed that as they can last 48 hours or up to a couple weeks from what I've read.

There's a difference between an "excuse" and a reason.

Are you kidding me? This type of change doesn't occur in season in the middle of a playoff run. That's crazy. You got to stay as close to the current offense as possible for the rest of the team. And the veteran who probably knows the offense and has experience is by far a better option.
Which is why Wentz was benched and why Fitzmagic was benched right?

Yeah, and by looking into McVay's eyes, I can tell that McVay thinks Jared Goff is a top 5 QB in the NFL. :ROFLMAO:
Yep and the lack of usage of Todd Gurley last year was really because McVay was an idiot like he said. Also, Brandon Cooks wasn't really on the trading block.:ROFLMAO:

On NFL network just now Micheal Silver hinted McVay and Goff are not seeing eye to eye right now. He didn’t get into specifics but after hearing this I wouldn't be surprised if Wolford starts again. Even if Goff is close to being fully healthy.
I don’t mind Goff getting feisty but the best solution is for him to play better. He and McVay don’t need to be best friends, I think he gets that.

Hurts is far closer to Wentz than Perkins is to Goff so that wasn't as dramatic a change. They didn't start running RPOs. They just added more. And what major changes to the offense were there with Fitzpatrick and Tua. Besides, they are both pretty close to the same type of QBs.

There's a difference between an "excuse" and a reason.

I agree. And it could be one, the other, or both.

I may be in the minority on this one, but I think Silver is reporting this based on first-hand conversations with Jared Goff. Silver is a Cal alum, and Silver has obviously worked hard to cultivate his relationship with Goff. Silver has for years been quite accurate in his reporting on Goff. Way back before the 2016 draft, I remember that Silver was one of the first to consistently drop hints that the Rams were dead-set on Goff instead of Wentz.

And IMHO Silver is reporting things accurately and not trying to stir up trouble just to get clicks.

I think Silver chose his words carefully when he said:

"Stylistically and professionally they've gotten a bit crossed up... add in this decision, and he (Goff) was in a tough place."

I just think Goff and McVay do indeed have a "complicated" relationship at this point. Yes, McVay still says a lot of the right things. But McVay REALLY came down hard on Jared after the second Niner game... McVay "called out" Goff in a way I've never seen him do before.

I just think the TONE of Silver's reporting rings true. A long-term relationship on a team is similar to a long-term relationship in a marriage, or in a family.... people can go through periods of time when they are strongly and legitimately pissed at one another.

Maybe Goff and McVay will get through it just fine, and maybe it will linger, who knows. But IMHO Silver is probably being accurate in his reporting that there's some friction right now.

Again, just my opinion based on how long Silver has been close with Goff.

Are you kidding me? We didn't keep Bortles on the roster this year. You're talking as if we'll get rid of Goff to start Bryce Perkins. If they thought Bryce Perkins was that sort of option, they wouldn't have signed a veteran who couldn't stick on a NFL roster this year to play over Perkins. Perkins has spent the entire season on the practice squad. He can run the same offense that Wolford did.

It's a ridiculous opinion. You can believe Perkins has the potential to be a starter for us in the future. That's your prerogative. But don't try to sell me the bullshit that we can dump Goff because Perkins can start for us next year when McVay trusts the guy LESS than Blake freaking Bortles.

If you're trying to argue that McVay is going to potentially start Bryce Perkins next year running some gimmicky scheme that is nothing like our current offense because Perkins can't execute the current offense, I'm going to call bull. It's a silly claim. This is the NFL, not college football.

Yep and the lack of usage of Todd Gurley last year was really because McVay was an idiot like he said. Also, Brandon Cooks wasn't really on the trading block.:ROFLMAO:

And McVay totally isn't the sort of coach who would bench a player who isn't performing if he thought the backup is better. He would wait for an injury and use that as an excuse because he's too cowardly to pull the trigger. Totes! :ROFLMAO:

I get what you're saying, what I disagree with is that he ever lost McVay's confidence which is a major difference.

I wouldn't blame McVay if he did lose confidence in Goff. I lost confidence in Goff down the stretch. But that doesn't mean I think we should dump him for Wolford or Perkins. It means that I think Goff needs to work hard this offseason to get his game back on track. And it means that I think Goff needs to stop playing hero ball and trying to force plays that aren't there.

This thread got so long lol....

lets me say this.. really none of us.. including silver really know goff and mcvays relationship.

That's what makes this so funny. It;s all inferencing based off little info.
its really just turned into a continuance of the I hate Goff vs. I dont hate Goff tbh

I don't think you CAN start Wolford this week unless Goff's thumb regresses. Holding him out last week when he thought he was healthy is one thing. You can easily say you're trying to maximize his recovery time.

But him coming in and gutting out the whole game, in a win, without making any terrible mistakes has put it at a point where if you start Wolford over him, you're telling the team that Goff isn't the man. At least, that's how I see it being interpreted.

This is perfectly reasonable and I agree with you. But what we are talking about here is McVay and where is he at. Basically what does he think right now about Goff and his confidence and where he is going and all that. It's a story at this point to some extent and it's gonna have to play out in these big games.

But, does anyone really hate Goff? Or is it the lack of blind praise for the kid that equals hate?
idk last game he played 2 plays and the entire forum turned toxic with statements of "we cant win with Goff" so you tell me

My best guess on McVay's perspective is that he thinks Wolford is good enough to win games if Goff's thumb is busted. I agree. Hopefully, Goff's hand will progress enough that he'll be the best option this week. If not, start Wolford. I don't think he's starting Wolford because he thinks Wolford is better than a healthy Goff.

Apparently, we can also dump him this offseason for Wolford and Bryce Perkins.
