Quit being a Debbie Downer OS. After this team rides a rejuvenated OL and stifling defense to a championship the only problem with the offseason will be the six month hangover from all the partying. :beer2:
You might be right!

I hope we dont have to go through that though.

Honestly not being a DD, just look at the game day threads and the threads about individual players. There's too much negativity and too much animosity between fellow fans. Maybe it's part of the larger picture but there used to be a time we could all talk things out and in the end agree to disagree but there's name calling and anger all over the place. I'm far from innocent in a lot of this hell there are people even putting a lot of others on ignore these days myself included. No matter what happens this weekend or if we're fortunate to go forward what happens the weekend after there will be threads and discussions and arguments this off season about the last few weeks of it unfortunately. Ok doom and gloom over time to have some dinner!

If my decision, I'd start Goff ONLY IF HE can make all the throws in warm ups.

If we start him, and he plays badly ... pull him for Wolford mid 2nd quarter. We NEED to win our playoff game, not worry if we might make Goff sad. So we cannot wait until the 4th quarter to pull him. It'll be too late.

But I'd start Goff.
My thoughts as well. I know Goff can't run like Wolford and given Seattle's D has really come on that's a huge advantage, Goff has had some huge games against them. And we need to score points. I don't think another 18 points wins this game even though I love our D.

Yet it was on Goff that his OL couldn't punch it in from the one in Seattle. Or the two TDs that were called back against the Jets due to penalties... Or Blyth unable to block Quinnen Williams multiple times resulting in blown up plays. Yeah, that was on him.
I’m not arguing that. Goff has had multiple issues in the red zone. Still I hope things work out for the better.

Has anyone ever seen a Qb play a good game with a sore thumb?

I can't believe the doctor who performed the surgery and inserted screws in Goff's thumb would give him clearance to play an NFL game 5 days later.

But what do I know....

If Goff is anywhere near 100% he will start. The comfort zone is that they go into a game with a proven QB behind Jared. Wolford is good enough to win this game if given support and not turning the ball over. I actually feel better about this game simply because should Jared's thumb not hold up Wolford is a very capable backup...he's no longer a huge question mark. He's signed through next year and will definitely attract attention as a UDFA in 2022.

This is Goff's team so he starts if he can.

mcvay has flat out said goff will start if healthy...

so if he isn't starting its because they don't trust the thumb.

If Wolford can have a great game this week and then a positive training camp and preseason. He may end up with some trade value.

So basically develop him showcase him and trade him? Yeah we can do that.

But Wolford wasn't the problem there. That's what I'm saying - he played well after his (understandably) shaky start. Better than Goff has in a few weeks. Nothing to dispute there either.
Absolutely worth disputing. What game was Wolford better? You want to compare the Seattle game to the Arizona game? The only game without a touchdown scored by the offense? Would have been a different outcome if Seattle was held to only 7 points eh? Or the defense scored 9 and the ST blocked a FG?

Its the only finger on the hand that if injured one could still effectively throw the ball

What makes you think that? I would think it would be painful/tough to grip without your thumb being involved. Thumb is important.

I didnt say it wasnt important, and I didnt say it wouldnt hurt. It is the only finger that doesnt have to move during a throw, it can remain stationary. Dont misunderstand, I'm not saying you dont need a thumb, just that its the easiest to work around if injured/broken

This becomes an issue of people giving the QB too much credit/blame for the offense IMO.

I'm not proud of the offense - I came away disappointed in Akers, VJ, Everett and with the false starts.

But I came away impressed with Wolford - with the caveat being he was bad early on. He started 1-6 for 3 yards and an INT. But after that?

21/32 228 yards (7 YPA), 56 yards rushing

I keep seeing people saying we always have our way with Arizona, which is true, but we also had our way with Seattle earlier in the season and played an even worse Jets team where the QB didn't perform this well.

That is what makes me excited about Wolford right now. He's a big downgrade from the Goff we want, but he's an upgrade over the Goff we've had the past few weeks.

I agree Wolford is an upgrade over the bad Goff we see at times. That Goff is usually a result of non Goff factors though, if we are being honest. Not always, but usually.

There is absolutely no question that the 2nd Seattle game we faced a different defense, and we did it with a different offense when you consider the injuries to Whitworth and Akers.

Seattle got healthy and added some players combined with honing their scheme. They were the top defense the last 6 games heading into their strong performance vs us. We’re they facing subpar offenses? Yes, but if they were still a bad defense they would have had several breakdowns even against some of those teams. Think about our top rated defense failing against the Jets and Niners.

Seattles defense has been as good or better than the Rams defense down the stretch, as hard as it is to say it.

The Jets have had many strong defensive performances this year.

So the argument that the resurgent Seahawks defense and Jets Defense aren’t that good is flawed. The offensive struggles are to be expected just as Wilson has struggled vs top defenses several times this year.

Having said that, I like a mobile QB behind this problematic Oline and TE group of pass protectors. Goff’s elite arm talent is almost completely negated behind it. Plus the element of surprise we can pose to Seattle might be the difference. I have no problem starting Goff and see how he plays behind this group and have the Wolford option as backup.
