I’d say if Goff is remotely healthy it shouldn’t even be a question that he gets the start. A couple of points:
-Neither team is going to get much going on the ground. Both teams will try to run just to keep each other honest but let’s face it-based on suspect OLs, health and ability of each team’s RBs and both teams run defenses this game will be decided by which QB plays better.
-In regards to QBs Seattle has one of the worst pass defenses in football. This is where we need to move the ball on them and Goff should be able to. I’d have him in shotgun most of the time as we should be able to move the ball. I think this is going to be a game where special teams make a difference (which scares the shit out of me) but I think Gay is going to need to have a big game.
-On the flip side Wilson won’t be able to have long play drives against our defense so we can’t give up any of those patented rainbow bombs from them. If you keep Wilson in the pocket you know we are going to get some sacks and turnovers.
-Like I said, if we limit our turnovers, convert FGs, and limit Seattle’s big plays I think we have a great shot of winning.
One other item I’ll point out about Goff that I’ve said many times-I’m critical of him when he’s playing poorly but all I’ll say is how many big games can you think of where Goff has shit the bed? In fact-just the opposite. The bigger the game the better he plays-can’t say that about the rest of the team though-especially our WRs in those big games where Goff made the throw but they couldn’t come up with the catch. Based on his historic play and even this year where we didn’t lose 2 games in a row until the end of the year he’s my guy.
I’m really hoping he’s a go because as I mentioned earlier I think this game comes down to QB play and I’d put money down that we have a better shot that Goff is better equipped to take on Wilson head to head vs Wolford. (I like the kid by the way but playoffs are a different animal and I want the guy who’s experienced it and already performed well in those situations).
