1.Players placed on Reserve/Injured (pharoh copper) are not eligible to return after 8 weeks
2. .Players placed on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (Ogbonnia Okoronkwo) are eligible to return after 8 weeks
Cool, you were right, thanks.

Thought McVay said something vague about Pharoh possibly coming back, but apparently not

He won't play on the Rams in 2019...things change quickly in the NFL.
Natson is the smurf that McVay always knew he wanted, but didn't know how to fit him in.....until now!

A player on injured reserve is eligible to return to practice if he has been on the IR list for at least six weeks from the date he was placed on IR. He is eligible to return to the active list if he has been on the IR list for at least eight weeks from the date he is placed on Injured Reserve.

I guess the sooner you get put on IR (at the start of the season) the better then

Sure. In Pharoh Cooper's case, he apparently is out for the season and is on IR. There seemed to be confusion that implied his season was over because he was on IR which isn't the case

so if he has a fast recovery he could come back?

Well all I know is that by merely going on IR, he is not automatically ineligible to return this season.
It just doesn't sound like the surgery he's getting leaves room for hope of a fast recovery

Cripes, this is still confusing.

Option A: Some posters imply that Cooper is definitely out until 2019.

Option B: Other posters imply that there is a chance he could return (although not likely) in 2018.

So which is it?

I think it’s Option B, but I haven’t found proof, and no one yet has provided a link to answer the question definitively.

My understanding is that Cooper is on IR, but at some point in the next several weeks the Rams have the option to change his designation if they so choose.

2 separate conversations really.
He had what was considered season ending surgery.
He was placed on IR
There seemed to be confusion about how IR works. Going on IR does not automatically mean a player is out for the season as one poster insisted was the case, they can return after 8 weeks.

Thanks dieterbrock, this confirms what I thought.

Last year, Cody Davis was injured week 6, was put on IR, sat out 11 weeks, and returned for week 17 (niners) and playoffs.

Theoretically, sounds like Pharoh could do this as well— could sit out weeks 2-15 (for example) and then return at the very end of the season.

Unlikely, but possible. I think we’ll get more clarification on this after surgery, then they can make a better educated guess whether Pharoh should knock himself out trying to return at the very end of the season, or just take it slow and plan for next year.

This is good news. I'd rather keep woods at his #2 spot and have Cooper come in kupps spot. However, I'm not totally sure he can handle kupps responsibilities. He's an outstanding route running w great hands and can inline block at an exceptional rate for being a WR. that's a lot to ask for a guy coming off an injury. We'll see tho.

Aye, Cooper won't be able to replace... Cooper lol... but having the boost to depth will be nice. I have confidence McVay can use Cooper and Reynolds to somewhat cover Kupps' absence. Still going to hurt but hopefully it'll be minimized.

Question will be, does JoJo survive if they reactivate Cooper? He has been very nice filling in on returns but he has zero use on offense. Unless they decide to limit Cooper's exposure to returns because of Kupp's injury and leave JoJo as the punt returner. Hard to keep a roster spot for a player these days who's ONLY role is punt returns even if he is good at it.

I think he will becuase Cooper will just take kupps spot as he will be put on IR. But yeah it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

yeah, i've never seen it with cooper.

maybe if he gets a chance to just work on being a wr he may refine his route running capabilities.

.

Was thinking using Cooper in whatever role Kupp had at and behind the line of scrimmage. ie-get him involved with the jet sweep game, wr screens, etc. Cooper is elusive in open space and I'd like to see them take advantage of that. Use Reynolds in the actual receiving game in Kupps place for the most part. It's going to be a collaborative effort mixing and matching skillsets to get at least a part of what Kupp brought to this offense to hopefully minimize his loss a little bit.
