OBJ wan't to be the top paid WR that's roughly $18 million a year. Donald is going to command $20 million or more. Gurley if he becomes even just a top 2 or 3 paid RB in the next couple years is looking at $14 million then we gotta pay Goff who when he's up will command $30 million if not more. Yeah 4 guys accounting for $82 million there or half our cap. Oh wait we have several other guys around $10 million not to mention Peters who will want to be paid top end CB are at least $16 million a year. Yeah that's sustainable, the cap is going to go up that much :)
And yet the Rams still want him.
Whaddatheyknow??

TE's rarely do as rookies
As many TD's as Cam Brate did for them on 1/2 the targets....

I was being sarcastic Dieter. LOL.

I know, generally, rookie TE's don't have great production. I was just hoping there's another OJ Howard in the draft.

But I'd rather have Odell. I don't care what anyone says, losing Watkins tightens everything up. We need someone that defenses fear so we can play 1-on-1 matchups.

OBJ would be the ultimate piece for that.

I would trade this years first, next years first, a compensatory 3rd rounder next year and a 6th this year.

We wouldn't have much of a draft next year, but we have the cap space and means to keep the following players for the next two seasons:

Goff (rookie deal)
Gurley (rookie deal/5th year option)
Peters (rookie deal/5th year option)
Talib (two year contract)
OBJ (5th year option/franchise tag)
Donald (re-sign this year)
Joyner - if we can re-sign him
Kupp (under contract)
Woods (under contract)

And - next year we can either re-sign or revamp the OL in free agency with all the cap space, even factoring in all these guys. After two seasons, we keep Goff/Gurley/Donald/Joyner/Kupp/Woods and let everyone else walk if we don't have space. We will have a full complement of draft picks to retool.

The only thing that will kind of suck is that we'd be picking 32nd..

Picking on you Mac....I would beg to differ that these two aren't similar. Much better scheme for Odell for most of his career....Much better QB play.
And

Sammy Watkins runs every single route there is...

Skill is similar..

Production is much different...I blame the QB's (targets & missed opportunities)...(Taylor/Goff)....Eli USED OBJ...sometimes to a fault.

One thing Mack pointed out though that you didn't cover was that Watkins didn't have a full grasp of the offense. Part of that was due to him missing camp, but fact is he wasn't totally comfortable even though he still managed to get open all over the joint.

OBJ will require a contract investment so organizational buy-in would be there through an entire camp to integrate him as a first read for just about every play and have him playing fast. So I have to think his impact in this offense would be profound. With him it just comes back around to all the other stuff... How he fits into the locker room and is the team taking on a guy who will be abusing drugs and the resultant risk of suspension.

All you guys that are hating the thought of OBJ, can I assume you'll be moving to Canada when we get him?

Look, I hate the little bastard too, but it's the path to the Super Bowl.

Both guards and the right tackle are UFAs. The two signed starters are old.

Strange. I thought when Suh was signed THAT was the path to the Super Bowl.

And, you know, if the Rams don't trade for OBJ, then they will have some cap dollars to sign fill ins as they are cut to provide depth, plus have a first to get help. So the Rams should be favored to make the Super Bowl before that, and will get more help, even without OBJ.

Oh, and if the Rams don't get OBJ, based on your comment I assume you will be moving to Canada.

Yeah...that's interesting too...remember he was asked directly, how long would it take? He brushed it off with answers of not long..Yada, yada....:blah: Yet we saw misreads...and mis-run routes throughout the season.

I would think a full offseason would help.....and I think if OBJ signs on, he'll be behind a lot of the wr's in the knowledge of this offense as well.

Just go for it. Who cares about the future after "next season". The Rams have won one Superbowl, and that win changed my life. I'd luv to get one of those again next year, then let the chips fall as they may after that. Maybe we lose a player or two down the road, so be it. We have a great shot at 2018 Superbowl. I say do everything possible to win now. If OBJ is available, try and get him now! Go Rams!

Freshman year at LSU: played full season

Sophomore year at LSU: played full season

Junior Year at LSU: played full season

Rookie year NYG: missed first four games with hamstring injury, then played next 12 (and had 91 catches for 1305 yards in just 12 games!)

Soph year NYG: healthy for all 16 games (missed one game due to disciplinary action.) 96 catches for 1450.

2016 year NYG: played all 16 games. 101 catches for 1367.

2017 year NYG: ankle injury, missed 12 games.

To me, if you look at the last seven years, OBJ was mostly healthy for six of the last seven years.

Very good numbers. Right behind J Jones and A Brown.

Given your handle and the two guys in your avatar I'd think you'd appreciate the other type of personality more. 1999 Rams weren't like that. Bunch of blue collar, lunch pail types who were completely united as a team and believed in themselves even as the rest of the world doubted them right through the Super Bowl.

London Fletcher was our fiery competitor, but he wasn't a whiny prima donna. Torry Holt was our most demonstrative WR, but his TD celebration didn't involve lifting his leg and urinating on the goal post. He organized a group celebration because when he scored, or when anyone scored, it wasn't about them. The Bob N Weave was a celebration of teamwork. Isaac Bruce didn't go on a boat trip the week before a playoff game and then drop as many passes as he caught when he came back.

For a coach trying to instill a new culture where the team is greater than the individual, I don't see where Beckham fits in. I can do without those "elite athlete douchebag" types because, well, it's more fun to win without them.

I hear all of that. And I agree.

That said, we've seen the impact McVay has had on players as has Wade and the entire organization.

Heck, we've seen Marcus Peters really be humble and openly embrace the NEED for and the availability of a mentorship from Aqib Talib. We didn't see that in KC.

If OBJ comes, there's some things we'll know before he gets here...

1) he will have spoken or hopefully met with McVay. And we've seen time and again how that changes things.

2) he will be all in on our culture and concepts (or he wouldn't be coming)

3) he is going to have a MASSIVE chip on his shoulder to prove NY wrong in not paying him

4) he's not going to get some 5yr $100M contract out of the gate. They'll work something out, but it won't be that.

5) Apparently, he already wants to be here. If we as fans know about Spotrac and without a fully versed agent and business manager, I'm certain that he's got a full understanding that he's not going to set records for his contract in LA. Wanting to be here even knowing that means he gets it.

All this talk is like the smack MMA fighters talk before a match...to sell tickets. At the end, they respect one another and hug it out.

I think the NYG FO is trying to salvage this and save face. They would like to have his talent, but they can't control him (which misses the point) and they can't stand his antics.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think it's a 1st this year and a mid round pick or maybe a few picks next year, like a 3 and a 4. Snead isn't going to go multiple 1sts. Why would he? If the Giants don't deal with him, OBJ has no incentive to report to any other team without a record setting deal and won't.

Because NYG FO isn't in a great bargaining position, I expect it won't be nearly what they want AND that it'll happen around the draft (I feel a Mack's Dead Horse take coming on...)

But what I mostly wanted to say is that if OBJ comes here, he won't be the same out of control guy he was in NY. That's definitional. OBJ will be on board or he won't be here. Sean McVay is the antithesis of Fisher in that he uses zero of his bullets to shoot himself in the feet. Fisher seemed to make his feet his primary target.

C'mon. We can be educated fans.

You have to know that this FO is not going to dumbly trade very, very valuable picks in the HOPE that they can get it done after a trade.

That's why they have contractual contingencies. Moreover, you can rest assured they'd have a "deal in principle" in place prior to any trade.

Or it wouldn't happen.

That's what we all have to keep in mind.

If it's not right, they won't do it. Period.
