Given your handle and the two guys in your avatar I'd think you'd appreciate the other type of personality more. 1999 Rams weren't like that. Bunch of blue collar, lunch pail types who were completely united as a team and believed in themselves even as the rest of the world doubted them right through the Super Bowl.
London Fletcher was our fiery competitor, but he wasn't a whiny prima donna. Torry Holt was our most demonstrative WR, but his TD celebration didn't involve lifting his leg and urinating on the goal post. He organized a group celebration because when he scored, or when anyone scored, it wasn't about them. The Bob N Weave was a celebration of teamwork. Isaac Bruce didn't go on a boat trip the week before a playoff game and then drop as many passes as he caught when he came back.
For a coach trying to instill a new culture where the team is greater than the individual, I don't see where Beckham fits in. I can do without those "elite athlete douchebag" types because, well, it's more fun to win without them.
I hear all of that. And I agree.
That said, we've seen the impact McVay has had on players as has Wade and the entire organization.
Heck, we've seen Marcus Peters really be humble and openly embrace the NEED for and the availability of a mentorship from Aqib Talib. We didn't see that in KC.
If OBJ comes, there's some things we'll know before he gets here...
1) he will have spoken or hopefully met with McVay. And we've seen time and again how that changes things.
2) he will be all in on our culture and concepts (or he wouldn't be coming)
3) he is going to have a MASSIVE chip on his shoulder to prove NY wrong in not paying him
4) he's not going to get some 5yr $100M contract out of the gate. They'll work something out, but it won't be that.
5) Apparently, he already wants to be here. If we as fans know about Spotrac and without a fully versed agent and business manager, I'm certain that he's got a full understanding that he's not going to set records for his contract in LA. Wanting to be here even knowing that means he gets it.
All this talk is like the smack MMA fighters talk before a match...to sell tickets. At the end, they respect one another and hug it out.
I think the NYG FO is trying to salvage this and save face. They would like to have his talent, but they can't control him (which misses the point) and they can't stand his antics.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think it's a 1st this year and a mid round pick or maybe a few picks next year, like a 3 and a 4. Snead isn't going to go multiple 1sts. Why would he? If the Giants don't deal with him, OBJ has no incentive to report to any other team without a record setting deal and won't.
Because NYG FO isn't in a great bargaining position, I expect it won't be nearly what they want AND that it'll happen around the draft (I feel a Mack's Dead Horse take coming on...)
But what I mostly wanted to say is that if OBJ comes here, he won't be the same out of control guy he was in NY. That's definitional. OBJ will be on board or he won't be here. Sean McVay is the antithesis of Fisher in that he uses zero of his bullets to shoot himself in the feet. Fisher seemed to make his feet his primary target.
