Totally agree. Even a 20 something kid that I work with, likes the old school special effects, like in "Alien." Even "Jaws" the shark looks better than the CGI crap sharks, but then Spielberg knew to use the shark sparingly and used the suspense of the unseen shark during the whole movie. Not sure if this qualifies...
Late 60's, all 70's, early 80's pre CGI film making in general but especially sci fi.
It was a time when special effect guys, production design guys, makeup artists, set directors, location scouting and even sound design guys were truly pushing the boundaries of "in camera" practical film making. It took time, creativity and innovation and i still believe that a lot of it just looks better than a modern CGI infested film in many ways.
Don't get me wrong i remember loving the early days of the CGI wow factor(Terminator 2 for example) but i feel like eventually by the turn of the century it became a somewhat lazy method of making visual effects driven movies.
Even stuntmen were doing far more amazing shit than we see today. I get it. There's not much need for those guys anymore when you can simply mock it up on a PC.
It is good to see that some film makers have gone back to some of those early philosophies and used CGI more sparingly, incorporating it with practical optics, in camera tricks, building elaborate sets, props and using real locations. Christopher Nolan comes to mind. Alex Garland, Joseph Kosinski.
I found myself searching for F-Body Camaro Z28s (3rd Gen) today. I owned 4 of them back in the day before I got into Mustang Cobras as an adult. Still have one of those...
Amazing how much the gen 3 Camaros are fetching these days. I guess other old farts around my age are trying to relive their youth, lol...
I bought one of those brand new back then. Manual trans. It looked just like this one...
You had a moustache too, didn’t you.

Hellz Yeah!!! You must have had the 5 liter as the 5.7 liter in this vid only came in auto.
I don't care what people say...that was one of the coolest looking models ever. I may or may not have had a mullet at the time I drove them....
I remember those LT1's well. They were the first Camaro's in a long time to outrun the venerable Mustang 5.0. Ugly as they may have been, lol. Oddly enough, that is when I went to the FoMoCo side and started buying Cobras. Have had 4 of them since 96. My current 03 is a monster of a car that I spent years planning and building...and now it sits in the garage and gets driven a couple times a year....sigh. time for a new project....and that is why I was looking for old IROC's.No... I actually had an automatic transmission. So it was the 5.7. I got a Z28 after this one that I insisted on getting a manual in. I wasn't thinking clear this morning.
My 1st car was a 5.0 Mustang. I wanted that 5.7 because of that.
The Camaro Z28 I got after this IROC-Z had the LT1 engine in it and a six speed manual trans. It had completely different body style though.
Oh man, I wish you had pics of that. That sounds cool af. Not sure why, but I still crane my neck when I see one of those go by, which is very rare these days. Love the 60's and early 70's models as well, but since I owned so many of the 80's F-Bodys...they they just give me that nostalgia boner.@Faceplant
I just went back and rewatched that video again. That was the exact car I had... mine looked identical in every way including the auto transmission. That center console definitely reminded me of it.
There was one tiny difference. I had to kinda order the car through the dealer since they didn't have an IROC in stock when I wanted to buy one. I was kinda young to be buying a brand new car and I think the people at the dealer wanted to make sure I wasn't just wasting their time. I remember having to do the deal before they even had the car. The cool thing though... since I ordered it that way... Chevy put a nice engraved plate on the dash right above the Z28 emblem that said "Built Expressly For George and my last name". It matched perfectly with the Z28 emblem in size but it was gold plated it think. People (especially chicks) would comment on it all the time because it was right in front of their face.
My mom bought a 78 1/2 Trans Am back in 1979. It was the special edition gold one. Gold paint, gold rims, gold velour interior, 6.6 liter. Badass ride. Those things are expensive now.Old guys and their Cameros.*smh...You know you really wanted a Pontiac Firebird anyways...
I read actual books. That's pretty old school...
