Lions signed Rams restricted free agent RB Malcolm Brown to an offer sheet.
The Rams now have five days to match the offer. The terms are undisclosed. Since Brown is a former undrafted free agent who was tendered at the original-round level, the Rams will receive no compensation if they choose not to match. The Rams' No. 2 running back last season, Brown was unable to step in for an injured Todd Gurley late in the year after breaking his collarbone. He also dealt with a knee issue in 2017. A big-time recruit who underachieved at Texas, Brown has averaged a replacement-level 4.0 yards per carry for his career. He would be an upgrade on LeGarrette Blount.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm glad to see him go... and to a good offense.

I really want to see what we have in Kelly... + Hopefully CJA

I'd prefer Brown over Anderson if forced to choose. Anderson is a good ZBS RB, but Brown's more versatile. I wish Brown had been healthy and had the chance Anderson did last season,.

Big mistake, Brown is ascending, Anderson is not...
Lions' $3.25M offer sheet for Malcolm Brown should make Rams' decision easy

It’s entirely possible the Rams could actually save money on Brown in 2019 by matching Detroit’s offer sheet. With only $1 million guaranteed and an annual salary of about $1.6 million, the Rams seem to have caught a major break by Detroit coming in so low with its offer.

If they were willing to pay Brown $2.025 million for one season, surely they’d be happy to pay him at most $3.25 million for two years, right? Especially if his cap hit is lower in 2019, which it likely is.

At worst, the Rams could match the offer and if things don’t work out, they can easily cut ties with him after next season without much dead money, if any at all. So if matching the offer benefits the Rams, why wouldn’t Los Angeles do just that?

There's not one mention here regarding the injury that put Brown on DL to begin with. Maybe that is why the Rams aren't jumping on this yet?

Not sure.

Phones are ringing for other available FA RBs. If a better deal can be reached (less $$$ and/or better RB) then the Rams will match the Lions offer and be happy to do such. It's pretty cheap for a RB1B need to augment (not just relieve) Gurley.

Wait - so Malcolm signed this offer sheet? Even though he would make less money this year and most likely less money next year (since he could have been a free agent)?

Isn't there a million guaranteed? He likely figured that if he'd taken the tender, there was a chance he could be cut if Alexander decided to come back for a smaller contract. This way he can save much of his salary and be ready to transition to the rest of his life if his career suddenly ends.

He gets $1m fully guaranteed. The rams could cut him before the season started and pay him nothing. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush.

Brown had a pretty serious injury. Had surgery & to me is a question mark. The Lions signing him though should tell Rams fans all they need to know about his health.
—Didn’t Malcom Brown have an AWESOME TD run or catch against the Lions ???

Corner of the end zone staying in bounds was really amazing foot work. He got injured not long after that & The Rams offense never seemed the same. Gurley had to pick up more of the work load & paid for it. Les was always under the concept of there is only 1 football when going into a draft.

NE won the SuperBowl last year against The Rams because of a rookie RB ??

Guess we'll know how much the Rams value Brown very soon.

Went from having excellent depth at RB to razor thin with glass cannon Gurley. Hoping the #2 spot will at least be competitive and that John Kelly picks up the pace at pass protection
