Ugh, of course we lose at least 1 coordinator this offseason. So ridiculous that we don't get some kind of comp for integral parts of our offensive/defensive game plans being plucked from us every single year. Most organizations would not land on their feet as well as we are if this happened on a yearly basis. There should be SOME type of compensation.
I agree. Hiring away someone's coordinator should come with a round 3 pick. If you get a good hire out of it that is a pick well spent.

So what’s the tally of NFL coaches from the McVay tree?

Kevin OConnel - Vikes
Matt LeFleur - Pack
Zach Taylor - Bengals

Any other I’m missing? Hell of a thing to say when 9% of the head coaches in the NFL are from your coaching tree and that doesn’t even take into consideration your only 36 years old.

We might be watching something special folks.

Makes howl in laughter at all the McVay detractors. :laugh4::laugh4:

Real talk if McVay starts hiring more black coaches for offensive assistants the NFL will have 50% black head coaches within a decade.

Hire the best man for the job, always, but if two candidates are considered equal by the Rams, they should doubtlessly hire the African American candidate, IMO, with a view to increasing their odds for comp picks.

Rams OC Kevin O’Connell focusing on Super Bowl, not Vikings job

It is widely assumed that Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell will be named the next head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, perhaps on Valentine's Day. Before that occurs, however, O’Connell must deal with the task of preparing the L.A. offense to face the Cincinnati Bengals in the upcoming Super Bowl held at SoFi Stadium, home of the Rams.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, O’Connell made it clear early into Friday's media availability he would only be taking questions about his current employer and the championship game taking place two Sundays down the road.

"There’s a lot of things going on, a lot of things that I’m absolutely looking forward to but none more so right now than our preparation for this game and all the things we’ve been able to accomplish this year," O’Connell remarked.

It was believed earlier this week that Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh was the favorite to land the Minnesota job, but he ultimately elected to return to Ann Arbor.

"There was a pull to the NFL because I got that close to the Super Bowl, but this was the time (to try and return)," Harbaugh told Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press. "And this is the last time. Now let’s go chase college football’s greatest prize."

Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers fell to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.

Um… what???

<quote>Of course, O’Connell will look to fill out his staff in Minnesota and could decide to bring McVay in to help run the offense.</quote>

I prey we don't get Gruden. I personally, really don't think he's that good of a coach. As an OC? MAYBE.

I don't think the Rams will hire Jay Gruden because IMHO, Gruden's going to want to call his own plays. I strongly believe that the Rams will elevate Thomas Brown to OC/RB Coach and then will either promote Wes Phillips to QB Coach and maybe hire former 49er TE Jon Embree as TE Coach would be a coup and would give excellent insight to their running game.

The other alternative would be to promote Zac Robinson to QB Coach as he's assistant QB Coach currently, but I like the idea of giving Wes Phillips the QB Coach title and hiring Embree, but we'll see how this plays out as the Rams will have to replace Secondary Coach Ejiro Evero too.

I feel like this has to be one of the more exhausting parts of the gig for McVay. Being a factory for coaches for other teams.

Agreed he would have to give up the playcalling too, seeing as how Gruden is the guy who let him do it so early on. But just comparing Jay to many of these other OC candidates it's night and day in terms of experience and knowledge. Also if we win this Super Bowl will that change McVay's outlook on needing to call the plays?

The way McVay talks up Brown you would think he's in the mix for OC. And I wouldn't be upset with an OC who has a strong love for the run game which Brown should have. I think both him and Wes are good options for that coordinator spot but McVay has really high standards. If there's a guy out there he really respects that shiny toy effect seems to kick in with coach.

Zac Robinson is interesting and I think you're right about him moving up. Might not be QB coach though. They might have him season up with another position in order to prep him for eventual OC. Either way no shortage of good options in house.

FWIW I'm just not a fan of Jay Gruden and it's because I met him once in Saratoga and didn't come away at all impressed and I was with a friend that was a Washington fan and invited Jay over with the offer to buy him drinks. Jay Gruden drank a ton and gave some insights to the team and I could not believe he was doing this. We had a few exchanges, but mostly my friend Cory was talking and Jay indulged him because he was getting his drinks for free.

Again, Jay had so many I offered to drive him back to the hotel, but he said he arranged transportation Again that was many years ago, but I was shocked on some of the information he provide as all I kept thinking through the whole exchange was....Loose Lips, sink ships.

What do you mean?

I've seen a ton of coverage and conversations about it.

That team's process isn't another team's process, nor is it the entire league's.

A google news search brings up a shit ton of articles, fyi.

O'Connell should thank McVay for blocking him from leaving to the Chargers. Now instead he's going to be a HC. Very nice promotion.
Thank him and the day, I’m taking half of your staff with me
Morris needs to get hired away. Then we get a comp pick right? I’m all in for Fangio for DC. As long as McVay is here, it doesn’t matter who our OC is so hire away!
I’m not sure McVay meshes with older coaches set in their way
Or Minnesota wanted an offensive coach.
I know where I'd bet my money
One reason is that Harbaugh couldn't sufficiently explain the Forty Niners collapse and his odd behavior that coincided with it. The Viking just got rid of a temperamental head coach and a GM that couldn’t make their relationship work. They want no drama.
