That's one of the reasons that Fisher promoted Cignetti over Boras was because Cig had been an OC before, however, it's not always about the X's & the O's, it's about the Billy's & the Joe's and the Rams didn't have anyone on offense.
Very true, but I never got the feeling that the staff was maximizing what ability was present.
In fact I feel quiet the opposite was happening.
That's not a shot against Cig. My feeling is that Fisher had his hands in places they didn't belong.
IE offensive football.
I have no facts to back it, just a humble opinion.

That would be good for Wes. He's not gonna get a shot at OC under McVay as he is not strong enough in leadership/comms. McVay guys are always strong communicators, and Wes strikes me as a bit of an introvert. An excellent coach for sure, but not having the stuff that is required to take an OC role for an elite org like this one is.

Happens every year. With his track record, McVay should be able to hire the best of the best aspiring coaches to join his staff.

My prediction is Zac Robinson gets the OC job. If nothing else the pass game coordinator

Possible. But again McVay has really high standards for his coordinator level jobs. Better chance we see someone brought in to run the show and then Zac moves to another position to fill out his experience. Remember... He was an internet analyst hire. Probably needs more seasoning.

I'm fine with Brown going to Minnesota. He was our run game coordinator and it wasn't good enough. Much of that was personnel specifically TE in the Super Bowl, however good as he is I don't think he's gonna make the cut for us.

A more potent run game is going to be desired next season.

How much of what you're saying is on him or on McVay and Carberry? How much is on injuries you mention like you mention with the TE.

Some of it is personnel certainly. But I think for him to hire the RB coach he'd need to be impressed by the coach, which he is, as well as the projection of that coach into the OC position and what the result would be. That's where I think he will suffer by comparison to a candidate that has a strong pass game grasp. The production on the field, the end result of his run gameplanning, is going to factor in to his candidacy basically.

On the other hand it's entirely possible that the desire to see run game improvement translates into that type of hire. Maybe McVay goes with the run game OC now knowing that he's got enough pass game know-how between his QB, QB Coach, and himself. So who knows. I just have a different feel post-Super Bowl than I did prior as it pertains to Brown and OC.

Just curious, but how many teams lose coaches every single year?

Btw that Vikes OC job is an amazing opportunity for Brown. Less pressure than what he'd get in LA but it's a loaded unit. That is a playoff offense right there no doubt about it.

I’d counter with McVay doesn’t need help with the pass game. He needs somebody to push him to make the run game better.

I hate this whole paragraph from the original ESPN article:

"O'Connell is expected to take Rams tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Wes Phillips with him to Minnesota as his offensive coordinator or passing game coordinator, league sources have told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Rams running backs coach Thomas Brown also will interview with the Vikings for their offensive coordinator job, per Schefter."

McVay could run the O himself but an ongoing stream of new ideas is maybe part of his key to success. And yeah there is room for improvement in the run game.

It's not about running it by himself or not. The OC in his words is somebody who can challenge him with ideas and to be better as well as help implement the game plan.

If McVay wanted either of those guys as his OC I doubt they interview with Minnesota.

If McVay wanted either as OC, there is no way they leave Rams.
Clearly best path to be an NFL head coach is through Rams OC position. This likely is true historically as well.
