That is the best job opening by a long way, as Cousins is in the ext tier of QBs, so he should have a shot at success

oh man, this is sad news. :bigcry:

Hopefully, he's able to stay focused on preparing the team for the SB. I imagine new hires are under a lot of pressure to figure out their coaching staff and personnel.

Yeah. That HAS to be a distraction.

...we all know it's been McVay 99. 9023447% anyways on offense. Lafleur and Wilson excelling. Cough
Or not. The OCs matter. O'Connell brought a lot to the table with the Rams and will bring a lot to the table with the Vikings if in fact he's their guy.

I know they werent together with the Rams, but having Sean Mannion also familiar with the system, the Vikings should have a leg up on instituting it. This is one to watch. To be clear, Mannion not an option as starter but the reps with the 2's and 3's

Well, we know Mannion is smart because he knows where the sun rises & sets.

But also Cousins is a free agent after 22 so you need to sign him and he's already very highly paid.

And with Rodgers maybe on the way out of GB.

LaFleur vs O'Connell for years.

That team has a TON of offensive talent; all KOC needs to do is draft some defense, get the right coordinator in place and they could be a top 3 team in the NFC next year. Especially considering the Packers, Niners and Bucs should all be taking a step back with their QB changes.

Coen could end in in Minny with KOC

Coen could end in in Minny with KOC

Thursday Headlines: Liam Coen Edition

Liam Coen will likely be considered for a couple NFL jobs.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 20 New Mexico State at Kentucky

Kentucky may have to worry about another threat to take Liam Coen.
Los Angeles Rams OC Kevin O’Connell looks like he is going to take over as the new head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, so a couple of intriguing NFL options might pop up for Coen.

First, Sean McVay may look to bring Coen back to Los Angeles, this time as Offensive Coordinator. Of course, Coen was the QBs coach for McVay in Los Angeles, and the idea would be intriguing from the aspect that the Rams are a Super Bowl contender and his familiarity with McVay.

The obvious downside is that McVay calls the plays in L.A., so Coen would lose the ability to do that, but O’Connell’s reported hiring in Minnesota shows that there is a pathway to being an NFL head coach as a non-play calling OC with the Rams.

McVay has quite the tree of former assistants who are now head coaches (see Zac Taylor, Matt LaFleur, Brandon Staley and now reportedly O’Connell). Coen has all the makings of someone else to join that group, and there’s a path to doing so by going back to L.A.

The Rams have running backs coach and assistant head coach Thomas Brown already on staff who is viewed in the organization as an up-and-comer, so McVay could opt to promote Brown to OC.

Of course, O’Connell will look to fill out his staff in Minnesota and could decide to bring McVay in to help run the offense. That could be an intriguing opportunity too for Coen, as the Vikings have one of the best young receivers in the league in Justin Jefferson, a high-level running back in Dalvin Cook, and the possibility of an opening in the NFC North if Aaron Rodgers leaves Green Bay.

Just a few things to watch as the NFL coaching carousel turns. Hopefully Coen opts to stay in Lexington and build off of a great Year 1. Fingers crossed

McVay should hire Jay Gruden as maybe he can keep him around a couple years. Assuming Jay's locked in mentally of course, but if that is the case he's a way more capable and experienced offensive coordinator than the rest of the options.

Although I would also like to see him get someone with heavy run game design experience. We're gonna need to run the ball better next season IMO.

This couldn’t wait until the season ended? This crap has always ticked me off, especially in the college ranks—which is why I am not a fan of most of them (college coaches).

Edit:
Why can’t a guy tell another team he's busy trying to win a SB? We can discuss it afterwards if you’re really that interested in me.

LaFleur- has QB Aaron Rodgers
Taylor- has QB Burrow
Staley- has QB Herbert
O'Connell gets maybe 1 year from Cousins? Ok, not on the level of the previous but still pretty decent QB

One things for sure about the McVay coaching tree, they certainly dont land where they are in QB purgatory that's for sure

McVay just needs to start hiring only minority coaches so that other owners don't want to hire them away.

Too soon?
I mean it's working with Morris. There's no way I'd hire some of these guys over him for head coach.

Ugh, of course we lose at least 1 coordinator this offseason. So ridiculous that we don't get some kind of comp for integral parts of our offensive/defensive game plans being plucked from us every single year. Most organizations would not land on their feet as well as we are if this happened on a yearly basis. There should be SOME type of compensation.
