A few fanatical terrorists blow up a plane. Everybody has to have to go through security check.

A few idiot fans get into fights. Everybody has to be watched closely.

Because of a few morons everybody gets to be inconvenienced with new procedures.

Yeah where you live is crucial if the system crashes. If you're in the suburbs you will be subject to roving bands under warlords that will inevitably rise in the population centers. They'll eat the cities out of food then start ranging out to find fresh meat for their BBQ. So prepping in the suburbs is a waste of time. Need to have a plan to get out if that's your situation, an exit strategy as it were, once certain thresholds have been met.

I don't think most modern folks are ready for the savagery that will follow this type of event. And the ones who aren't, i.e. the rationalizers, are going to be on the menu.

Are we willing to give up privacy so that technology can inhibit bad behavior? What happens when they want to inhibit how you live your life?
Purely hypothetical.

They wanna take my picture, fine. I hope it helps catch all the jerks who try to spoil other people's fun at the stadium.

They're not doing it to catch drunk hooligans? So are they trying to follow me for some reason? Thanks! But I'm not that important. Next I'm gonna read that Zuck will steal all my facebook pics and not give 'em back.

Already executed part of our exit strategy.
Yep same. Have to admit the yard work is always shitty, particularly this year with even more rainfall than normal so it's been like cutting back jungle and the fruit trees went apeshit. But it's nice to have property to plant potatoes or whatever if we need to.

And I haven't been in traffic since the last time I drove to StL to scoop kids on their visit. Country living is great. :clinkingbeer:

The government has maintained facial recognition and GPS tabs on people for years. What, don’t believe me? Open your wallet and pull out your Driver’s License. It’s all there.

As for spying on people like us, I believe the government has better things to do than keep tabs on me and my less than glorified life.

As for @Loyal , I’d be concerned about the government’s interest in your collection of hentai tentacle porn.

I guess I haven't been paying attention. Can you show me this China style control??
I didn't say it was already here -- I stated "there are many people in this country in positions of power who would eagerly impose" such a system if they could.

I assume you're familiar with Blackrock's (and others) ESG initiatives? This is not a government system, obviously, but the idea is the same -- to impose certain values on companies. But Biden’s SEC proposed a climate change regime for companies that included ESG scores. 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang proposed a system in which a government-run mobile app rewards Americans with “digital social credits” (DSCs) for good behavior. And he's not alone.

It may be mostly on the fringes right now, but that's where this kind of thing always starts. There are lots of itchy authoritarian fingers out there just eager and anxious to implement systems designed to drive behavior they deem acceptable. It's the nature of man.
