Keeping him costs $8 million this year, cutting him costs $5 million. Does McVay want to pay him8 to stay or 5 to leave.
Who wants to pay *anything* for him to leave? It's not like he's a locker room cancer or completely untalented. Can we sign/draft a better ready-to-play talent for less than $3m next year? If the answer is "yes" then cut. If "no" then keep.

I have always said there is a chance he stays .
With Sammy leaving it leaves an opo. We as Ram fans were good before the trade for Sammy . That was with Mike Thomas having a 4 game suspension to start the season.

1.What are the percent of him staying ?

2. When does his bonus kick in ?

3. By holding him , can The Rams bring value
For a trade.

4. How long can they keep him with out much cap cost.

I say keep him for another year and see what happens. It's not like he's a Brian Quick type talent , and he was here way too long.

If we dont get a WR in FA then we may as well keep him for 3 mil. Cooper could get hurt or maybe mcvay can expand his decoy usage by having him run go routes.

Yeah, it's possible. The Rams would pay his bonus and try to trade him only if they knew there was a willing trade partner(s). Not sure that's the case.

I’ll answer a question with a question. Has Tavon ever proven to be a deep threat to take the top off of defenses? That’s what Watkins is.

Many times.........not last year but he ran deep routes many times before.

Come on man don't make things up we all know he was never a deep threat. He was a threat on jet sweeps and screen passes along with punt returns for a while.

This is not how that works. It doesn't "cost" us anything to cut him. We already payed him $5 million. That money is gone. Sunk. We owe him $3 million more. If we cut him we save that $3 million. If we keep him it'll cost us that $3 million

I wonder if we can keep him through training camp, trade him before the season if need be, and still save the $3m? At the moment at least we may not need the money and, without Watkins and since we apparently have to pay the roster bonus anyway, maybe our coaching staff can actually work with Austin in a full preseason and try to find some use for his speed. We need more weapons on offense now.

If we cut him he costs us $5 million dollars on the salary cap. If we keep him he costs us another $3 million the cap.

Tavon career stats
194 receptions 1,689 yds 8.7 avg
never a long threat
train

I am not trying to infer that he was a deep threat but he ran deep routes several times.

Cardinals and Colts games along with the color rush game versus the Bucs come to mind.

Not like Watkins of course, but Austin did run deep, not that there was a lot of that in the Rams offense.

The screens used to work often enough that I don't have any idea why McVay didn't use that play. Often it was no gain, occasionally a loss but plenty of those turned into big gains.

Anyway, yes Austin did run deep routes.

Ummmm has Tavon been released? haven't seen one thing confirming it?

Having not released him yet bodes well that maybe he is garnering at least some interest for a trade. I wouldn't expect anything other than a 6th or 7th but having him still on the roster now means he's either staying or there's a smidgen of hope someone will trade for him. Maybe a team told the Rams to wait and see how the WR market played out and if they are left in the cold they'll come calling for TA?

The Rams are holding out hold they can get something — anything? — for receiver Tavon Austin in a trade, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports. Interested teams, though, expect the Rams to cut Austin, so Los Angeles isn’t finding anything to its liking.

Austin has four years remaining on the four-year, $42 million extension he signed with the Rams in 2016. The Rams will save only his $3 million base salary with his trade or release.

Austin started only nine games in 2017 and made 13 catches for 47 yards. In his five seasons with the Rams, the former first-round pick has 194 catches for 1,689 yards and 12 touchdowns

The guy has too much heart and passion. Get value in a trade, or keep him. I want to see him year 2 in a Mcvay offense.

Any chance they are pressuring him for a pay cut and then maybe they hold onto him for another year.
