It's always that one Colts game that people reference. Are there any other examples of how great he can be, or did he just get lucky that one time?

For what it's worth, I'm sure GRob had one single game where he did a great job blocking the whole game. And he's huge, strong, whatever else. His physical talent was why almost everyone thought he would at least be an all pro guard.

In both cases in turns out you have to be good at football too.

The Colts game served as an object lesson for both the Colts & the rest of the NFL on how not! to play Tavon. When you go against a guy with Warp 5 speed and quickness (e.g., Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders, Terry & Eric Metcalf, etc.), you simply cannot! play him 1-on-1. You surround with as many bodies as you can spare to prevent him from killing you virtually all by his lonesome or, even worst, by having his damn teammates get in the way of having your defenders grabbing him with their [Tavon's teammates'] blocking/screening abilities.

Before the Colts game, all the NFL DCs in that first season played Tavon the way they played Gale, Barry, and the Metcalf father/son duo. After the Colts demonstrated the futility of 1-on-1 play against such an electric weapon, everyone reverted back to the old formula and flooded him with as many available defenders as possible.

I was hoping that Sammy & Jared coming together to stretch the field even more vertically, along with the threats from Todd, Robert, Cooper Kupp, our young TEs and all, would allow Tavon even more opportunities to get more 1-on-1 time. However, that crazy megabucks contract from the Fisher regime killed that possibility.

How did it change ? The contract has nothing to do with him getting one on one coverage.

Go where ?? It’s all about the cap.

McVay knows his play book & what he wants to do in the future. He has a lot of experience from last season. What worked & what didn’t.
I thought he tried to much to get him into different situations that were not good.
—Still Tavon is a weapon !!

In McVay I trust !!

Tavon injured his wrist last off-season and missed actual physical play during TC last year. How much his wrist bothered him physically and psychologically last season is anyone's guess. The fact remained that he was not really as fully integrated in Sean's offensive schemes as the other players.

Now the Horns FO wants to free up dollars for off-season player manipulations, and Tavon's hefty contract is not looking very good now for a player who may not even work out as well as Sean hoped due to sub-par hands and route running ability. Do you roll the dice with Tavon or go after surer prospects? The FO has indicated they have already made their choice and are dangling Tavon out there in the hopes of picking up the best bargain they can get for him.

Well that would be interesting. They are the only other team that might be able to do something with him if they could fix the struggles to run routes, struggles to catch, and struggles to get upfield.

Sounds like Tavon is getting released on the 14th from various sources. IF he goes to the Eagles and we meet them in the NFC Championship game :dizzy::dizzy:

Runs an end around and returns one for a TD?:banghead:

We have all seen this coming . It’s just been hope The Rams would get a draft pick. Plus would help with salary.

i must say i don't like the tone of the heading to this thread. tavon always gave it his all, it's not his fault fisher gave him that contract. at the time he was the only threat the rams had on offense. the angst towards tavon because of that contract is so wrong.

thanks for all the good times (well, moments), tavon, in the dark ages of the fisher era.

Breaking free on a punt return to get called back by holding then fumbles. Wait we won’t punt, silly me.

I don't hate him, but maybe I don't understand him. I would have taken the money and so would have everyone here if they were being honest. What I don't get is that after his years with the Rams, why he didn't learn how to run crisp routes over the complete route tree. If he had done that, I am not sure the Rams would be letting him go.

I can imagine he is thinking. Hey play for a super bowl winner, also maybe learn a little bit from Mr. Darren Sproles - who aside from the fact that Sproles has THIGHS! I think is a pretty good representation of the player I think Tavon could be utilized as

Most of us saw this writing on the wall a couple years ago... but his speed is like a magic fairy dust that sprinkles in front of your eyes... distracting you from the fact that he isn't a good WR....

some of his plays were just spectacular. like the punt return vs seattle that some of us were in attendance for. especially cool since they had just returned one against the rams. i'm wondering how much he was affected by steadman bailey's situation. they were college teammates as well. anyway, if the rams needed to move robert quinn and alec ogletree, everyone knew tavon time was up. and with pharoah cooper here, i really didnt notice tavon's lack of production anymore. i do agree though, for his size, the dude can throw some nasty blocks.

I agree 100%, surprised the mods haven't fixed the title or comments with as little as it takes to have posts moderated now a days. :/ Edit in 3....2....1...
