Maybe they think the injury affected him a lot last year, and that he would be worth $3 million if need be - but would rather have the cash and a draft pick.

If no takers on trading him, then restructuring, or cut him and resign him for a more reasonable contract?

Ok, Atlanta lost Gabriel so maybe Tavon could fill that roll? Let's get Poe from them and hand them Tavon.

I like Tavon in the role he has just not for his salary. So if they can some how talk him to a more manageable restructure I'd be fine with it. But I'd be surprised, that just doesn't happen often.

Sounds to me like the Rams are bluffing to try to get teams to trade for Tavon instead of waiting for him to be cut similar to the Rams trading for Talib after word leaked that Denver was open to keeping him. I'm actually open to having Austin return to the team at a lower salary and cap hit since I think McVay can come up with something clever to use him for despite the initial struggles to incorporated him into the offense during their first season together.

Well, I have been thinking about this Tavon thing for a while. While many want to cut ties and get anything, others hold out some hope for keeping him and somehow being rewarded. My thoughts have been along the line of what happened between the time he was a blur in college, and electrifying player early in his Rams career, and what we have seen recently.

I am not a Psychiatrist or Psychologist, but I do have a theory based on other athletes and my personal experience. There have been many athletes in the past that have had no problem performing the fundamental acts necessary for their success. Centers hiking to a punter or place kick holder, pitchers throwing to catchers and the like. Then, all of a sudden, they make a bad snap or two, or they make several bad pitches ( see Rick Ankiel), there are likely many more. But no matter how hard they try, they cannot do what they did before.

I liken Tavon's problems with fumbling punts and other issues with playing the sport he loves in the same context. He dropped some punts, he made some fumbles, he didn't perform as well as he knew he could. The fear of making a mistake took over his psyche.

People trying to help on the physical side cannot succeed in a situation like that. I base this on personal experience.
I bow hunted for years, which required a lot of practice to assure I could make an accurate shot when needed. I did this for many years and was successful in many ways over the years. Then, I made one horrific shot when practicing. After that, I couldn't do anything with the bow.

When I tried to practice, I would break into a sweat and could barely hit the back stop. To this day I can no longer perform with a bow.

My point in all this? Whether Tavon stays or goes, he "may" need help in another way.

Well, I'll go back into my hole now.

Media peeps are using the term "restructure" when they should be using "renegotiate" I don't see the Rams restructuring and pushing money from Tavon into future years. They don't do that under Demoff. It does sound like they're gonna ask him to take a pay cut to stay or release him tomorrow (I think trade's off the table since no one wants that contract).

@nanotech I've dealt with some athletes having performance problems and I always recommend "The Inner Game of Tennis" no matter what sport they play. Pete Carroll's been known to give it to his players. You might wanna check it out.

I caught that comment from TG this morning too.

It could mean that he's just not gonna be able to see him on his BDay but he'll see him this weekend...

OR

It could be an Aloha.

Can't tell.
kinda sounds like the latter.

That could be like free throws. I Peas went through it & injuries.

The case is he is to small & doesn’t fit well. He does not run good routes & can’t get out of man coverage that well when pressed.

You always consider keeping a guy at a lower price who's had some production. I'd keep him at the vet minimum. ;)

Which he won't agree to, of course. He can sign elsewhere for more.

I see this as negotiation with other teams mainly, to get a low pick rather than cutting him. Doesn't his money get guaranteed in a day or so?
