Well, I have been thinking about this Tavon thing for a while. While many want to cut ties and get anything, others hold out some hope for keeping him and somehow being rewarded. My thoughts have been along the line of what happened between the time he was a blur in college, and electrifying player early in his Rams career, and what we have seen recently.
I am not a Psychiatrist or Psychologist, but I do have a theory based on other athletes and my personal experience. There have been many athletes in the past that have had no problem performing the fundamental acts necessary for their success. Centers hiking to a punter or place kick holder, pitchers throwing to catchers and the like. Then, all of a sudden, they make a bad snap or two, or they make several bad pitches ( see Rick Ankiel), there are likely many more. But no matter how hard they try, they cannot do what they did before.
I liken Tavon's problems with fumbling punts and other issues with playing the sport he loves in the same context. He dropped some punts, he made some fumbles, he didn't perform as well as he knew he could. The fear of making a mistake took over his psyche.
People trying to help on the physical side cannot succeed in a situation like that. I base this on personal experience.
I bow hunted for years, which required a lot of practice to assure I could make an accurate shot when needed. I did this for many years and was successful in many ways over the years. Then, I made one horrific shot when practicing. After that, I couldn't do anything with the bow.
When I tried to practice, I would break into a sweat and could barely hit the back stop. To this day I can no longer perform with a bow.
My point in all this? Whether Tavon stays or goes, he "may" need help in another way.
Well, I'll go back into my hole now.
