That's not the kind of team i want the rams to be. The guy did them a solid. If they trade him they have stooped to ravens and, god forbid, the cheats level.

.

Rumor is The Rams will release Tavon Austin so they can sign Suh ?

That’s just the rumor as of now ? Will see what happens , but could be High Tavon again , now bye Tavon .

What $$$ is saved by releasing Tavon. Cap $$$ is $5M if Rams keep him or cuts him. Understood any additional $$$ would only be due thru incentives and does not count against cap.

All we'd save is the vet minimum which is his base pay that's not guaranteed.

Lazy reporting. Didn't realize the Rams restructured.

....(n) Hey wait! This is an opportunity to change the thread title again!

Seriously:

Tavon: leaving, on a jet sweep.

Or:

Rams Muff Restructure: Punt Tavon.

I've got a million of 'em.

Isn’t the cap the top 40 salaries anyway? Not sure the vet minimum would even be a top 40 contract and may not even affect the cap.

In the offseason it's calculated with the top 51. But every penny actually spent* for the league season matters. So, for instance, the money paid to the 10 practice squad players counts against the cap, and I'm certain none of them are the top paid players. If a player goes on IR in week 12 and the team signs a replacement, the money paid to both of them affects the cap dollars. That's why teams always leave a buffer in their spend to allow for contingencies. Running it tight teams still leave $3 million plus normally. Last year with relatively light injuries, the Rams ended up with a bit over $4 million left over, which rolled over to this season. Not sure if having that much was intentional planning or what.

*signing bonuses of course are spread over multiple years normally, just like there is some cap hit for bonuses from previous seasons.

I can see four ways Tavon could help this team and add value.

1 Jet sweeps and fakes. Same as last year.

2 Screens

3 Deep routes

4 Short crossing routes

Just don’t use him the following ways:

Run up the middle

Run routes in the middle of the field

Run deep outs or ins

Run curls

Punt returns

Rule of thumb:

Get him the ball at or behind the line of scrimmage or over the top of everyone.
