Salary dump. He was getting paid way more than it would have been worth to keep him around. What I don't get is that McVay had Tavon Austin and traded him instead of using him. Tutu is similar so it's a bit puzzling to me.

I don't hink you do get it. I never said he was their worst pick ever and I've said in this thread that I don't think they should cut him.We get it. You were right and McVay and Snead were wrong. Why don't they just admit it was the worst pick ever and cut the guy right now?
Blanton was ahead of Hopkins on the depth chart. Neither is a good enough run blocker. I’d expect a Tight End to be taken in the draft.Wasted pick? looks more like the case than not. Should cut him? no. Won't crack the starting lineup? That's joke, right? Kupp and Arob will be the top duo in the league and obj is kinda better. Like alot better. Van jefferson has better tape. So maybe pump the brakes on the starter speculation.
I have been all for hopkins from the day we drafted him but the dynamics are different in the TE room. It was clear to many that everette was out due to his contract and that the rams couldn't keep him and higbee so we needed a new talent. And even though he has done less than tutu I still think he will eventually bring more to the success of the team.
I'm just giving my assessment of a player based on what we have seen so far, which is also the same assessment I had when the rams drafted him. If he does anything to prove otherwise I will be the first to give him props and say I was wrong
We hear so much about BPA at a position of need. From a BPA aspect it looks like a clear miss at this point, at the very least a round or two early. When you see a guy that can fill a need and looked like BPA when the Rams picked, go on to excel, and the other flop, it’s obvious. We get it. You were right and McVay and Snead were wrong. Why don't they just admit it was the worst pick ever and cut the guy right now?
I agree with dieter, there is nothing to be gained from airing dirty laundry. Yes, they are facile cliches, but that is the point. Be glib and empty with the press, honest and direct behind closed doors. It is not a hard concept to grasp.Oh lighten up dieter Jesus.
Fact is McVay rarely says what he fucking thinks of players if it includes any negativity. And when he has, generally it precludes a move of said player. Simple point there. If you are looking for another thread duel though take your nonsense elsewhere.
You should apply for Snead's job. We will give a good reference. When he was drafted I said he wouldn't finish the season...check. I said he wouldn't be better than our 5th option..check. I said we should have drafted humphrey...double check, and I don't see anything to remotely suggest that any of that will change. do you? But now that this IS the CURRENT reality, I'm the pessimist? thats just ridiculous.
Why would you want the offense to carve out a role when throwing to kupp, arob, akers, and higbee is a better option? To try and justify a bad draft pick? as good as snead is, he's not infallible, as we have seen. And, no, his size is not a good thing. When has that size been a good thing in the nfl? seriously, give one example. Prototypical size means shit, but being the smallest offensive player in the league means alot, as we have already seen, and will continue to see. You're right it's not my skilled analysis or luck, it's the history of the NFL.
He was publicly critical of Darrel Henderson during his rookie yr in regards to learning the playbook if I recall correctly.Oh lighten up dieter Jesus.

What the fuck? If you dont like people disagreeing with your opinion, then dont post itOh lighten up dieter Jesus.

Yes, you were wrong just like dozens of other fans who believed the Rams needed a center. And where's the proof? We won the freakin Superbowl without him!!! But like a Dogg with a bone you won't let go. "Especially since he is now the highest rated center"? So what? That means we can look at every pick who comes in and plays well and say, see we should have picked him instead of that guy. Wow, a second guessers paradise!! Lotsa smart guys there, eh?I just don't see it happening just like I didn't get why we passed up on a center to get him, especially since that center is now the highest rated center in the league. Was I wrong?

Well there are some who believe their opinion is fact. And therefore facts can't be disputed. Amazing. What the fuck? If you dont like people disagreeing with your opinion, then dont post it
No. It is second guessing. They didn't believe they needed a center and YOU and other fans believed they did. It's irrelevant who they chose instead. You would have complained if they took a CB or RB. Because Humphrey was "the obvious pick". Before the Rams made their selection I didn't hear anybody say, "don't pick Tutu here". It was "Humphrey is the choice here".it's not a second guess as me and others here were saying, at the time, that the rams should draft humphrey over tutu. That is a first guess. So, according to your logic it's better to be paying 8 mill a year for a top 10 -12 center instead of less than one mil for top 1-2 center because we won the superbowl? Even my dog is turning his head when I read that to him. That 8 mil is likely costing us a critical FA signing
Center was a need. The unproven Brian Allen and Coleman Shelton were both in their final contract years. As we’ve seen many times before the Rams like to allow players to sign elsewhere and take the compensation picks instead.Yes, you were wrong just like dozens of other fans who believed the Rams needed a center. And you believe these guys used hope over their eyeballs? The team with one of the best scouting staffs in the business?
In fan's eyes, yes. The Rams braintrust said, "We believe we have our C in house" and they were right, weren't they? It's a simple concept. Fans see the roster, the draft prospects and play junior GM saying what the needs are and who the Rams should pick. But rarely are they accurate. And yet the Rams, under this regime are 56-29 in the regular season with 3 division titles, 7-3 in the postseason with 2 Superbowls and 1 Lombardi. John Madden's NFL was all about the big uglies but the NFL is changing. You need a QB and good weapons to win and the Rams proved you don't need an All Star OL to do it. My god, how many years will these fans be complaining the Rams fooked up royally by passing on that HOFer Creed Humphrey?Center was a need.
Thinking a player weighing 160lbs is a legitimate option in the NFL isn’t very smart. Even in college one hand was bringing him down, he isn’t that much faster than players at this level. Injuries are going to be the norm and he was already showing signs of ducking hits last year.Calling a 2nd round pick a bust after 1 year where they didn’t even play because got hurt seems pretty stupid to me. The Rams getting rid of Woods means Tutu and Van will get more opportunities this year.

Here's a thought.....look up Humphrey's cap hit for 2022 and look up Brian Allen's. Humphrey's cap hit is 1.264 mil, Allen's is 1.8 mil. OMG!!!! Rams are defending SB champs with Brian Allen at center. Chiefs are Division Champs with Humphrey at center. Let me know when the Chiefs win the SB because they have Creed Humphrey at center.
Face it. These guys are actually smarter than you.
True that. Plus as has been stated numerous times T. Austin was NOT an NFL caliber wide receiver. He was at best s scat back utility guy.Salary dump. He was getting paid way more than it would have been worth to keep him around.
Well you can have Atwell and I’ll take Humphrey. See where we end up at the end of their careers. Snead has proven in the past that he is as fallible as any other GM. I credit McVay with most of their success. Plus trading for proven talent is a given. In fan's eyes, yes.
