Play makers like Jack Rabbit are very hard to come by. He has earned a major payday.

Not only has he been a Badass on the field, but he's been a model citizen off the field.

IMO he's the type of player that will slack off once he gets paid. If he wants anything close to one of the biggest CB contracts(which he obviously does) then I'll pass.

Based on?

Not suprised. Janoris wants to play in warmer weather if he gets to choose. Just see his tweet when the first drawings of the new STL stadium came out. He complained about it being an open stadium instead of a dome in the STL climate.

Take your talents to South Beach, Rabbit. There's more strip clubs down there for you to get ready for.

Mr.Pix6Sh*t doesn't need the league to force him to comment, he's not exactly shy in his public statements and we shouldn't be surprised when he crosses any lines by now.
Just admit it - you don't like him/his lifestyle. Actually, he's been a model citizen since entering the league.
And one helluva CB.

If the FO can overpay a guy like Jared Cook, I don't know why they are hesitating to overpay Jenkins. At least the jack rabbit contributes to the team.

JJ will get paid because he is earning it. I don't think GMs around the league see the big plays against him as negatively as some fans. The fact is that coaches have to game plan around him. That is a player you want to have and will pay to get or keep on your team.

Hopefully, we can work in some incentives and keep him in horns. In KD I trust on these deals. The Rams will find a way.

This weird perception that JJ is so horrible distraction and douche that's always in trouble, even though he hasn't been in a lick of trouble since his first season.

Because he's kind of a loud mouth and says stupid things, so obviously that means he's a slacker as a player and not that great a person.

I meant developing him into an elite corner, not that he was a raw prospect.

And they did make an offer in his final year. I think the Rams/Demoff are good at this and I will trust them to get him under contract.

The league requires players to talk to the media. He was answering a specific question. I suppose he could (and maybe should) have just gone with 'no comment' but the league puts these guys in a tough spot by forcing them to be available for questions.
How about... "yeah, well, I don't talk about contract negotiations... I leave that up to my agent".

That's what 95% of players say when asked about contracts.

He likes to yap... that doesn't endear him to me (but, then again, I'm pretty sure he doesn't care what think :D)

Some things to consider:

  • CBs (four of them) account for 3.55% of Rams 2015 salary cap figures which is 28th in the NFL. Green Bay is the 16th highest at 11,768,574 which is 8.44% of their cap.
  • Jenkins cap figure for 2015 is $1,587,829 and Johnson's is $1,709,794
  • The 2015 franchise tag number is $13,075,000.
  • Jenkins will be in the top 2 available (behind Josh Norman)
  • Johnson will be in the top 6 or 7

He is going to get paid and rightfully so.

I just hope the rams don't overpay...as much as fans wish players gave hometown discounts that generally isn't reasonable to expect. On the other end of the spectrum sometimes overpay homegrown players. Hopefully Snead is realistic in evaluating JJ, he is going to get a payday and that is reasonable, but the rams have to pay market not above. I do worry that JF has a history of overvaluing "his" guys.

My fear would be if they overpay him that he will regress a little, as a lot of guys does when they get the big payday. Now I really don't care how much he gets paid as it does not come out of my account, but if it straps the team with the cap $ is not a good thing. If he is betting on himself set up his contract so if he plays lights out he gets paid, if he doesn't he doesn't get paid. All contracts should be set up this way I think.

Look. I love Gaines. But those Lisfranc injuries are always worrisome. So many guys aren't right after them. And no Jenks means a big decrease in CB depth talent.

Teams need a shutdown corner. This D does.

Jenks has not been a shutdown corner until this season. What I don't like is the timing of his fixing of his bad tendencies. I think the Rams are being cautious and rightly so.

Very interesting thread...

Sounds like we're all over the board with regard to Jenkins.

Frankly, I find myself conflicted.

I would have preferred that JJ had kept salary talks out of the public arena. Let his agent work behind the scene with Demoff. Then again, that's only mildly annoying, huh?

JJ has developed into a danged good CB this year. Either we pay him market price or we lose him. I think the FO would love to keep him and they work something out that's fair for both parties.

If I was a betting man, I would say that he probably stays. Fisher has been good both to and for him. And JJ must love playing on a kick ass D like ours. I think he can see big things in this team's future. So why would he want to leave if Demoff puts a fair offer on the table?

However...

If he gets unreasonable about his demands he might get a surprising response. The Ram's cupboard is hardly bare at CB these days. And we have 4 picks among the approx top 70-75 in this next draft, plus Snead has proven that he can find quality CB's late. Gaines and Roberson are proof of that. Moreover, the Rams can play the agents for JJ and TruJo against each other if they want to play hardball.

I think we can all relax a bit. This CB situation will work itself out by March, I'm pretty sure.

Makes me wonder if he has any professional integrity. This type of action should wait till the season has concluded. I consider it very questionable he returns to the Rams in 2016 if he continues with this stuff.

It has been repeatedly reported that Rams wanted extend one or both of Jenkins/Johnson before the end of the year. I do not think these negotiations started by Jenkins or his agents. At best it was a mutual decision but more likely the Rams initiated the discussion.

The Rams should franchise him. See if he can keep playing at the same level. It is not surprising to me that he becomes a shut down corner in his walk season. In prior years he had many mistakes mixed with great play, but those mistakes happened to be very costly.

Franchise him for the next two years if they have to. If his play is still the same then consider paying him but it really seems like he wants to get out of Dodge.
