I live in Missouri and I hired a guy a few years back that was from New Jersey and he always talked about it. Sounds like one of those disgusting sounding dishes that taste great. LolEggs and scrapple.
I love biscuits and gravy but that's like a heart attack on a plate.
A guy from Jersey raved about Biscuit and Gravy? He must have spent some time down south because that isnt a Jersey thingI live in Missouri and I hired a guy a few years back that was from New Jersey and he always talked about it. No, he was raving about Scrapple lolA guy from Jersey raved about Biscuit and Gravy? He must have spent some time down south because that isnt a Jersey thing
I struggle with the idea that it has to cool in a pan to solidify before being cooked. I feel like maybe it's crispy outside and soft inside? I would def try it. But it's so foreign to me.A guy from Jersey raved about Biscuit and Gravy? He must have spent some time down south because that isnt a Jersey thing
Scrapple is a Pennsylvania-Dutch food, kind of Amish stuff.I struggle with the idea that it has to cool in a pan to solidify before being cooked. I feel like maybe it's crispy outside and soft inside? I would def try it. But it's so foreign to me.
My kids and I love it, but you need to get it from a good source. The kind you get in the grocery store isn’t very good. We have great butcher just outside of town and he makes the best scrapple I’ve eaten. I once ordered it a diner in Durango Colorado and it was comparable to what we buy.I live in Missouri and I hired a guy a few years back that was from New Jersey and he always talked about it. What is so special about the bacon egg cheese ketchup salt and pepper, served on a bagel Mr. New Jersey man?A guy from Jersey raved about Biscuit and Gravy? He must have spent some time down south because that isnt a Jersey thing
Tell you didn't say scrapple....When it comes to Breakfast ... much like real estate ... it's Location, Location, Location.
Down South, well-made Biscuits and Gravy are well worth the very real risk of a heart attack.
In New York, if you can find well-made Corned Beef Hash (with eggs poached or over-easy but not scrambled) you have found a slice-of-heaven.
A well-made English Breakfast ... in England ... is amazing.
I would love to find a well-made Pennsylvania Dutch Scrapple, and will look for it when next in PA.
Editor's Note:
As a life long resident of NYC, there are very few good locations for corned beef hash. Unless you have a recommendation (my favorite is EJ's on the Upper East-side ... but only on weekends), the better alternative is the simple classic Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a round roll ... served at most NYC Diners, Delis and Bodegas
... it is an excellent option at most locations.
Never had it.Tell you didn't say scrapple....![]()
Well its the bagel that makes it special, I didnt say anything about bacon, egg and cheese. That said, I'm not a fan of a breakfast sandwich on a bagel. To me, I'll take a nice kaiser roll instead. A pork roll, egg and cheese on a kaiser? Oh yeahWhat is so special about the bacon egg cheese ketchup salt and pepper, served on a bagel Mr. New Jersey man?
Yeah. As with most things, I’m game to try it.Fuck It ... I would give it a try.
Almost everything beats English stuff at everything.Nothing beats a full English.
(Although other nationalities may disagree)
Steak and eggs with some home made sourdough and butter with coffee.
