Penix has talent but I absolutely hate his throwing motion. He better be taught by someone to improve that throwing motion.

we need to draft other than QB with our higher picks.

Stafford is 35 and turning 36... but Rodgers is almost 40.... brady was 44

Staffords contract is a dead cap monster for 2-3 more years.

Our best bet is to ride with him for a couple more years.

I know some people don't want to hear that and I get it - but its the most logical move forward.
then we better cover hid blind side, front side, side side and back side better.

Unless they are trading up into the bottom of the 1st round for someone I'm not seeing yet, I agree wholeheartedly.
I disagree because I like J.J. McCarthy over Drake Maye, but that will play it self out in the coming weeks and after McCarthy wins a National Title.

Totally agree. I'm not drafting a qb round 1 that will require a complete mechanics overhaul. Ewers from Texas needs work also

Not seeing what you see in McCarthy. He mostly plays cream puffs and most of his throws are conservative or to wide open receivers. I was at the Rutgers game last year and they had him rattled. Not to mention his turnovers in the TCU game.
Sure he's got the measurables, but I havent seen him put the team on his back and carry them to a win.

He did that against Ohio State. Keep an eye on him against Penn State this weekend. He is very smart and extends plays, but also keeps his eyes downfield in the process. Again I believe he will pick up more steam as they defeat better competition.

And FWIW I would love to be wrong and watch him self destruct against Ohio State, but that is not happening, similar to how I felt about Brett Rypien.

He was ok in that game, nothing special. Threw short all day. Nothing next level in that game for sure. Worth a look as a mid rounder due to his size but a first rounder? Heck no

If they think the next run of playoff years starts next year, I think they'd do better to draft a left tackle or edge rusher and sign a veteran backup to Stafford. If they think 2024 is still in rebuild mode, then yeah, look for your future quarterback now.

Unless Stafford gives them a retirement timeline, I think we continue to build around him.

I think both parties agreed upon his signing of the extension it would be after the 2024 season. You can see that by the contract structure. They added additional years to simply give him a manageable cap number. Matt's continuous injury issue is only getting worse. Frankly I don't think the Rams or Stafford is looking beyond 2024 for that reason.

Well, that's not true one bit.
10 mill of his 2025 salary becomes guaranteed 3rd day of 2024 thus puts the dead cap for 2025 around 37 mill
Stafford is in it for the long haul, unless he wants to give back some of that signing bonus

As I noted in my first post, I don't favor taking a QB in the first round.

That said, there are some cogent arguments for doing so.

If the Rams find themselves with a Top 15 pick in a fairly deep QB draft class, they may have a unique opportunity to get a true franchise player. Even if he sits for a couple of years behind Stafford (we should be so lucky as to have Stafford available for 34 consecutive regular season games), it could be a great move for our long-term success.

I would, of course, feel a lot better about doing so if the Rams first fill some more immediate needs in the free agency market.

And we have to figure that our draft pick the next year (25) will be lower than the one this year. Figuring in the cap space and full complement of draft picks we have coming up this off season. This might be the year to take our next franchise QB, regardless of if he sits for a year or two.

Back at ya. Trading back in to the late 1st round is a smart play as it buys that 5th year option

Wow. Maye's the best QB in college football... but we'll see if that remains by end of year.

Hard to know what Rams should do without knowing what players are there (and who those players are after the next three months) but it sure seems like a highly rated WR, OT, QB, TE, DE will most likely be there for us where we pick.

Now, please don't take this the wrong way, have you watched a whole game that Drake Maye has played?

I still think I like Penix the best out of them all, but agree his throwing motion disturbs me. But I don't understand how when he throws it, the ball seems to magically teleport to the perfect spot.

Who's to say that won't happen in the NFL? If someone drafts him expecting to change his mechanics, they're dumbasses.
