Its tough to find full game replays, but, I just watched Penn St/Iowa and Chop definitely popped in that game. Probably was his best game of the year. I am still baffled why he had such little production, moreso after seeing him manhandle Iowa. He even lined up inside on a pass rush and got right in the QB's face.
Well, in fairness, I would have the best game of my life if I lined up against the Iowa offense.

Okay… this is the dumbest joke, but I have to…

If we got him, we’d have to sign Eli Apple…

Well, he just turned 21 in January, so he is younger than most draftees. By comparison, Latu turned 23 in December. So he is a full 2 yrs older than Robinson. The same with Verse, who turned 23 in November.

So what type of prospect were those two guys 2 yrs ago vs now?

That kind of puts things into perspective doesn't it? Might be why Robinson is rising.

BTW, Turner also just turned 21 in February. So Turner & Robinson are guys that just might have higher ceilings.

These are the days of smoke screens. How many NFL teams fly and travel to talk to players and never draft them? Probably a lot. Traveling to talk to Chop doesn't make it a sure pick. I could be wrong, but all of us could be.
Traveling across the country? Why not just travel to USC or Washington State? Across the country for a smokescreen when all they need to do is spread a rumor? Come on

Maybe they're looking at more than just Chop.

Check out his game against Michigan. Michigan basically said to hell with passing the ball. All to avoid him.

To also be fair, Michigan ran against every team.

Definitely but this was a defensive struggle I believe. Them running wasn't productive. They just were getting smoked in pass sets. McCarthy threw the ball EIGHT times.

If they love Chop we might see them trade up but definitely not trade down. Personally, I cannot see a world where either Chop, Mitchel, Thomas JR and/or Newton and probably Mims are not available at 19. At least one of those will be special so let’s hope we pick the right player regardless of position.

That said, there are other players I like later at each of those positions all of who might end up being better

If we trade out of the first round personally I wouldn’t be disappointed to have to wait a day to be put out of my waiting misery

So on the top 4 Edge rushers, do I understand correctly?

Verse is more of a 4-3 DE who is a great pass rusher and good against the run but can't be expected to cover like an OLB.
Turner is a true OLB but doesn't have a great first step and is a little suspect vs the run.
Latu is a tweener. He's big enough to be a 4-3 DE and agile enough to back off in coverage. But he has short arms and those injury concerns won't go away playing against bigger, stronger athletes.
Robinson is a true OLB but has issues vs the run.

Some believe with time and good NFL coaching, Robinson can improve against the run and Verse can improve when asked to back off in coverage. Latu and Turner seem to be the guys most NFL ready. My questions are, is Turner a little over rated because of the program he's been in and the better athletes around him? The lack of first step get-off won't improve with coaching? Is Latu a little over rated because he's played in a weaker conference and is he going to have issues because of the short arms and injury history?

Does any of this matter because they may be going offense at #19?

The Rams probably flew to PA to interview Chop Robinson in case something happens on draft day. For example, if they trade down to the mid-20s... Chop might be there. So they went and interviewed him. Nothing more... nothing less. I don't think they would draft him at #19 but who knows? But of course they are interested in a "potential" star Edge... who wouldn't be. I just hope the fucking niners don't get him. I've seen him mocked to them in several drafts.

Somewhere online I saw someone compare Robinson to Vernon Gholston. I think they were specifically referring to the hype that surrounded Gholston when he was coming out on Ohio State. It looks like Robinson is more explosive and even more athletic than Gholston so I don’t think the comparison is necessarily accurate from that standpoint. However, I remember some Rams fans declaring that choosing Chris Long over Gholston was a mistake. If memory serves Gholston actually had decent production in college. Robinson worries me.

In all fairness, watching Michigan insider video McCarthy stated he was hurt by Chop early in the game but refused to step out of the game.

Maybe I’m confused between him an Isaac but he got lit up back to back in the beginning of the game and as the game wore on it was harder and harder for him to throw which is why they went to 32 straight runs to fix this issue and why not when you are the most dominating run team in the nation?

Could be as a contingency plan.
