Fano is a huge upgrade over McClendon and on a rookie deal for 5 years while McClendon is a free agent after next season. Add to that with our other 1st round pick we got another huge upgrade with a CB. Two first round picks two huge upgrades.

That said I doubt Fano is picked over Simpson or Sellers who he doesn't even have mocked in the 1st let alone likely the best player in college in Caleb Downs.
Beat me to it. But also if we move Hav out and McClendon becomes the starter we have nothing on the depth chart. Swing OT is crucial, particularly when our starting LT has had that bloodclot issue twice. Also Fano has the feet potentially at least for the left side so can back up both edges.

Well...good for him, I'm impressed!

I wish that was reflected in his mock, though, because McClendon has been playing much better than what we were getting from Hav this year and probably last year too.

I'd much rather see that pick used on a position where a huge upgrade will be felt.

"With Rob Havenstein likely nearing the end of his career, the Rams might be in the right tackle market this offseason. The answer might already be on the roster should Warren McClendon finish this season strong, but if not, Fano would be a great fit. He is an athletic big man with an outstanding play demeanor."

I would be pretty pissed if we drafted Maiava with a top 10 pick.
Man I saw that kid on tv and live and he's just seems to lack consistency for me but I liked his moxy in the second half of the Iowa game after they got punched in the mouth and him driving throws in the rain - I'm open to see what happens in this draft process.

Also while I'm thinking about it I am of the mind that Sayin's comp is Joe Montana. Meaning when he does come out he will go probably third or later round because of a weak arm.

Now some may say dammit Merlin you're comping him with a dude who won all those titles before most Shitter fans were born. To which I retort Montana went third round for the same reason Sayin will go outside the early rounds. They are quite similar in weak but accurate arms.

He’s someone that’s going to shoot up the draft board based off his interviews. But his ceiling is Daniel Jones IMO.

The 9th pick is kind of rich for a swing OT IMO. But good point on the blood clots.

I think the key is the talent of the player. Fano is a starting level talent with good feet. He's a slam dunk first round OT. Only question is what side does he start on. And supply/demand is driven by the fact there simply aren't enough humans of that size so when you see the ones with feet they're not gonna last.

If the Rams have him at let's say 18-20 on their board they can slide down or move up from 32 and take him. But also OTs tend to go earlier than slated just like QBs.

When I watch OSU I see AJ McCarron in that kid.
Game manager surrounded by so much talent

I guess another factor is, by the nature of his position, if McClendon starts next year and is solid, you will have to pay him real good money. So would you rather have a more talented RT, who is cost controlled for 5 yrs, or McClendon, who may be an overachiever who is paid top dollar.

I really don't know the answer to that question. On one hand, the college prospect hasn't proven anything yet, but then can you count on McClendon when he plays against elite talent?

Rams are in such a great position this draft.
They can take BPA with both first round picks. There are no glaring holes and Rams have cap space to fill with free agents if needed,

Of course how long Stafford continues to play is a big variable.

McVay rebuilt Mayfield. I'm sure if needed, the Rams can find the right veteran QB, and so Rams should only draft a QB if they are sure he will become a top notch QB, if not BPA.

Rams will be in contention for many years

Yeah, the 5-year contract would be nice. This is admittedly short-term thinking, but I would really like someone whose impact we feel next year. I asked myself, would Fano cause the offense to score more points next year? I honestly don't think it would because McClendon is doing a great job in pass pro and run blocking.

But it should be considered for wise long-term team building.

I doubt Sellers gets anywhere close to the 9th pick. Simpson yes.
McClendon has done an admirable job and I think he gets more credit because Big Rob was doing so bad. Fano is absolutely a difference maker and you put him next to Dotson that right side of the OL is a run blocking machine and would be very hard to beat. Look at it this way don't settle for an upgrade to current Big Rob. Look at it as potentially getting a top 5 RT in the NFL. IMO aside from maybe Sadiq, Lemon or Simpson there might not be as big of an impact offensive pick there than Fano or Mauigoa.

I'm not a fan of this pre-draft stuff because you never know what the Rams are gonna do, but a right tackle is almost as important as the left tackle in today's NFL. Great edge rushers come from both sides these days. That said... if McClendon continues his good play, I doubt the Rams draft his replacement. They do, however, have to draft a tackle at some point.

I will trust Snead on this one, but it is fun to speculate. It will be interesting to see what needs are able to be filled during free agency. However, at this point, I would like to see Stafford's possible replacement and a top CB. I realize the OL will need to be addressed at the tackle position. I would not be surprised however to see the Rams take a WR early.

Your second sentence contradicts your first sentence. Second sentence you say you doubt the Rams take a RT. Your first sentence says you never know what the Rams will do.

One thing the Rams always say about every draft pick is a very simple thing. He makes the team better and there are 3 or 4 OT in the 1st round that 100% make our team better. Do I think they draft him? No based off that mock I think he's the 4th option there. But there are upgrades over our current RT set up to be had 100% without a doubt in my mind.

Fano moves really well. Pretty sure I saw them hit him for a TD. He's also a finisher, dude plays with a chip on his shoulder. So yeah him next to Dotson would be nasty as hell.

But even if they ink McClendon as Hav's replacement I wouldn't rule it out. You really want to be three deep in that OT room.
