Yeah.. Mahomes sucks.

Shuffle along.
Mahomes is not some running QB. He runs here and there when he has to. You do not see him have multiple designed runs in a row right up the middle like you do with Allen and Lammar, just getting beat on like a fullback. They have exactly zero SB wins. I did not bring the multiple SB,MVP winning Patrick Mahomes into this. You did. His rushing stats are nowhere near Allen and Lammar's.
What I want to see from our QB is for him to hand off or drop back and the ball to come out of his hand the instant his rear foot plants itself in the turf on freaking time. And if there is 20-30 yards of grass in front of him and everyone is covered, take it.
Running QBs put the franchise at risk and I will say this. Running QBs many times are running QBs because they can not process the information they are seeing with their eyes fast enough.
And I want no part of that.
Now shuffle along yourself.

There were some great "scrambling running QB's" that won plenty of Super Bowls. Not sure what distinguishes a running QB from a scrambling QB, but one of the greatest field "information processors" (Dan Marino) never won a Super Bowl.

Just because QB's run doesn't mean they don't process information faster than a QB that sits in the pocket and takes a beating.

I think a QB puts a franchise (and himself) more at risk if he just sits back in the pocket and lets himself get smashed by 300 lbs linemen.

"Running QB" to me means a QB who can get 1st downs with his feet, is dangerous when they have space to run, or can make things happen when all breaks down.
That is 100% Patrick Mahomes
He chooses to win with his arm over his legs but without question has the ability to take over the game with his feet.
When Stafford hangs em up, I'd love to have a QB that could do those things

Cant a scrambling QB do that as well?

I would get the argument if "running QBs" had more or the same running attempts as passing attempts throughout their careers, but I see nothing like that.

A first down is a first down no matter how a QB finds a way to do it.

The difference between Mahomes, Lamar and Allen isnt really ability as much as it is play calling/scheme design
With offenses geared toward more spread/shotgun formations, I'd love a guy who could get a 1st down with his feet.

I guess:

The only difference I see is Mahomes has three trophies and the other guys zero...

Nope, Mahomes has around 300 yards rushing a year. Multiple Super Bowl wins and MVPs. lamar has had 1000 yards rushing TWICE !
Whole different deal.
Kurt Warner could not run a lick. And I would take him at his best all day and every day over Allen and Lamar.
Allens game will improve when he runs less, throws more and just runs to take what the defense gives him.
He will get more of that, safer less dangerous runs if he concentrates more on passing because the defense will be more worried about it.

Of course. But, the others may be even better with McVay. Sam might, too.
The part I'm trying to figure out is, what would the purpose be for any reclamation project? Would it be to backup Stafford or be the starter when he's done?

If we're talking about a backup, sure, why not.

Mahomes isn’t really a running QB. He uses his legs effectively but he’s very much pass first.
Where did I say I wanted a “run first” QB?

The Rams have had 2 very stationary QBs in a row… I would like to see them with one who CAN run.

The knee-jerk response that others have that seem to think I’m advocating for Janelle Holieway or something.

Jesus…
Now.. go look at your stuff… and take out the ability to run from Mahomes.

I’m not looking for a wishbone QB.. I want one who CAN run…

No one is taking out Mahomes running ability.
He does not run into the pile time after time like we have seen from Allen and Jackson.
Figure it out.

No need to… maybe read what I actually said.

“One thing I look forward to is seeing McVay with a QB who can run.
Not in any rush to move on from Stafford tho.”

Now.. tell me where I said I wanted a “running QB.”

Reading comprehension is your friend.

I was basing it on your response to the post you were replying to.

If I had a young running QB I'd show him tape of Elway. And tell him scrambling to buy time to throw down field is how you put a fuckin dagger in a defense. Running for some shitty yards on the ground and them teeing off on your ass and taking you off the field is doing it wrong.
