If he wasn't so injury prone, I'd be in favor of taking a shot on him. Indy did him no favors. Man needed to sit, polish his mechanics, and grow mentally before he started games in the NFL. But the injuries are a big concern for me.
It’s a deep deep dive to get to where I can let my hate out of the box.
I don't think he's a victim in this equation re: Indy. Strikes me as the kind of dude who didn't realize how much work it requires to be great. Where teams didn't do him any favors was falling all over him and his talent level and taking his underperforming collegiate ass at 3 overall.

The guy who really knows if we should even draft a quarterback in the first round is Matt Stafford.
If they win it all this year and Stafford plays like he did in his first title run I would understand them electing to load it up around him and hope to repeat. But I would still be hoping we take a QB.
I don't want a castoff. Prefer a young QB starting fresh who jives well with the offensive staff. For example as Richardson has entered the discussion with his high end talent, I'd still rather have a guy like Sellers who offers some similar upside but strikes me as much more intelligent and likely to do the work.
No way the Vikings give up on McCarthy in what is essentially his rookie year. Yes, maybe he understands concepts better since he sat, but it’s not like he had more practices or games to adjust to the NFL with.
IDK they have to start winning, if this year is a learning year and he improves great, but Kevin O’Connell doesn’t have a look of a HC that is pleased with the process.
I don't care if he's a victim or not. He was extremely young (20 at the time he was drafted) and known to be a project. Instead of being patient, they rushed him on the field. It was a stupid decision by the team. I do care how much talent he has. But the lack of durability is the big problem here.
McCarthy just has that nervous look to him in the pocket that rubs me the wrong way. Harbaugh always made sure to balance the offense around him, and at times I felt like he went out of his way to take the ball out of his hands. So nothing against him, but I'll be surprised if he ever amounts to much in the NFL.
That dude has bigger problems than durability. I happened to catch one of the Colts preseason games, the one he got hurt in. He had zero clue what was going on at the line of scrimmage and missed a free runner by the defense which got him hurt.
Truth is being stupid at this level can affect one's durability. And that dude has never looked like a QB who is intelligent and anticipating a defense in his reads at the line, or in his play in general. He had two full camps and seasons as the starter in Indy prior to that, so I was surprised to see a QB who looked like a rook in that game.
Which means no way I'm buying that BS with him. That's not to say that he can't work out. Maybe in a few years it will look smart that someone did what you suggest. But I prefer it's not the Rams.

Which is why I would stay away. I agree on the other things you say about him but the injuries are just too much for me to want to roll the dice with him.

Most young QBs don't have "it" tbh. You're looking at statistical likelihood of mediocre or worse it seems, even if you pick up high.
But I think if you keep it simple and go with the equation of talent + giveafuck you give yourself the best shot. And the older I get the less I think that the talent comes first.
