Again I think we all know Stafford is smart enough to know that it doesn't have to be a 1st rounder he's throwing the ball to. There are 2 first round picks on the entire offense here and he's balling the hell out. He knows he doesn't need a 1st round WR with McVay.
The guy is taking significantly less money than he would get on an open market to help the team, that to me says that he's all about what's best for the team and not about what's best for him

Who could we possibly get for 2 2026 and 1 2027 first round picks? I can think of one very good QB who is playing for a pretty terrible organisation in the Bengals. But that is wishful thinking unless they stupidly fire his HC and he rightly becomes disgruntled. Cincy’s ownership are more than capable of such stupidity but it would more likely have to be a player whose situation is similar to Stafford’s was. I can’t think of anyone, playing on a 3rd contract, can you?

Lawrence is the most obvious but I have serous doubts about him playing in a timing offense

The alternative is a first round QB reclamation project which would probably cost us no picks

Agree, that the Burrow option is a good one and one we should DO.

As far as Trevor Lawrence goes i am now adamant we should NOT do that. Very basically he's too inaccurate and i personally feel he doesn't love Football enough.

Another Vet Quarterback we should keep an eye out for as POSSIBLY shaking loose in coming seasons is Lamar Jackson. Possible "time for a change" candidate.

Lawrence has a lot of money on the books. He just signed an extension last year. So as much as I'd like to see him behind Stafford that doesn't feel likely.

Burrow was inked a year earlier and has a ton of cash on the books as well.

So it feels like the best way to do this is draft a rook and park his ass behind Stafford.

Well first off this is great news for us. Unless it leads to Cousins starting and getting them on a short win streak.

But I suspect Penix is out of line here. First off Morris identified and drafted him and I know for a fact he's the kind of coach who is there for a player after spending so much time with the Rams. Then he promoted him over a vet. He's been publicly supportive to the young QB too. His comments quoted demonstrate that.

Sounds to me like Penix needs a swift kick in his ass for running his mouth. None of that shit helps. It only makes things harder for that locker room. He's a starting QB for one of only 32 NFL teams. He's the man they all look to in that offense. The team leader. So he needs to toughen up and fix what needs fixing in house.

Those that wrote off Arch already have gone awfully quiet as he has played very well the last couple weeks. As usually happens with talented young players who struggle early. Taking a wait and see is usually the best option over throwing out the hot take. Still think he stays in school but these last few weeks against good teams are more of what we thought we'd get and this week against Georgia is another big test.

Penix will be a 1st Round Bust. Good arm, nice touch, but doesn't have it upstairs IMO.

Is he still throwing side arm on some of his throws. Haven't watched his games lately.

That was the main thing I said needed fixed.

Edit - only QBs who have been in the league awhile can get away with that.

It matters.

In fact there's a certainty that they would let him know before they draft a QB in the early going. Not that he ok's it. But they show the man that respect for who he is by giving him a heads up that it's coming and hey you're still our dog and he's for the future and all that. Or they have the conversation before the draft and preload him on the possibility on the few they really like. Or both.

I think the casual dismissal of the QB feelings is unrealistic given that they just had to clear the room out to have McVay and Stafford agree on structure to make him feel, as Stafford put it and I paraphrase, that he was important to the team. There is zero chance they would make a move for a QB up high without telling him. And I think it is downright unlikely they would move up for a QB by using significant draft capital unless they are convinced that QB's value is so great that they are willing to accept pissing off the starter.
In the end, it’s not going to matter though. The chance the Rams get a better QB than Stafford is remote at best. Stafford no doubt knows that. He’s a professional and not of the Aaron Rogers line. He would no doubt want his team to be able to keep going if he were to be injured and even more so if he decides to retire. The Rams are extremely unlikely to replace a healthy Stafford. And it’s extremely unlikely a young QB could get to a point where his skill level would push Stafford out before he decides to hang them up.

This is an opportunity for the Rams to grab a QB of the future. Potentially a chance that will never come around again unless you think the Rams are going back to being losers or take a dive to get a QB. This opportunity is even more rare in that this young QB would be able to learn behind one of the best and most fierce competitors at his position while being part of a winning organization. He wouldn’t be starting behind the eight ball of a losing program with no one to mentor him at his position.

It’s kind of a perfect situation. I’m not sure they can pass it up in hopes to be in that position in the future.

The problem with Arch is the hype/name. He has great size and is very athletic. But he isn’t that good - yet. He has a long ways to go to be a starter in the NFL (let alone an average or better QB). He’d be an interesting LT prospect without the name. Maybe 2nd round at best. But it’s early - if he stays another year, maybe he takes a big leap and it’s a different story.

The upcoming QB class is Mendoza and who else? Maybe 2027 is the year to draft a QB?
Simpson, Mendoza, Sellers would be my hope. That said, I think its unlikely Sellers comes out, he is going to be offered a boatload of NIL to transfer to a powerhouse like Miami and then likely improve to be the #1 pick in '27. Simpson and Mendoza could also go back, but, they are having good seasons and thus are likely top of the 1st round locks. Dante Moore is also intriguing, but, like Sellers, will get a lot of NIL cash to stay at Oregon.

I'd be happy landing any of those 4 also.
