The pass blocking isn’t going to be rebuilt overnight. But it doesn’t have to.
Even with the 2017/2018 line you had Havenstein who struggles at times, RG Blythe/Brown and Sullivan who would get overpowered.
But you had a really solid 4 run blockers in Whit/Saffold/Sullivan/Havenstein
That awesome run game was usually top or top 3. The goaline run was automatic and the playaction pass feasted.
The pass pro rating will look a lot better even with average pass blockers.
But also get a top blocking TE to take that run game to the next level as we see with Kittle.
If we do get a top FA G and C then that is even better. I would use Edwards as depth because as we saw, one injury to a lineman in the playoffs and the protection is entirely compromised (I.e, Evans).
Agreed.Pass blocking was very good in 2017-2018. It wasn’t until the Lions and Bears started sending 6 man fronts at it that the weakness was exposed. DBs and Linebackers not biting on the play action fakes and falling in coverage instead prevented the receivers from getting open quickly. Before that though Goff would stand back untouched with plenty of time to survey the field. It was a thing of beauty. But once Blythe and Sullivan got exposed, even teams that didn’t use the single high safety and 6 man fronts realized that those two could be overpowered, and reacted poorly to stunts.
A good pass blocking center will help the passblocking. Having two very good linemen on the same line can improve the entire line. Having a glaring weakness in the middle makes it harder for the guards to do their jobs.
Considering that Whitworth may not return and the Ramscould have a new starting left tackle by 2022, I’d say it is imperative to sign or draft an excellent Center. Otherwise in 2022 the entireOline could be a huge mess
This is why I'd go all in on Corey Linsley and Larry Warford.
Why fart around. Are we all in or not?
If McVay and Snead trot out the same OL... I'll be upset.
If I have ever posted a reply to you in blue font, I apologize now for you missing the SarcasmI’m color blind...I have missed a whole lot of sarcasm lol
At this point in the franchise, what makes you think they won't bring out the same OL? I'm half expecting no change in the O Line and McVay saying 1 of two things when it doesn't work out:
1. But I got a better better QB! How could this happen?
2. I thought they'd progress more and I need to put them in a better position to succeed.
That would likely cost $11m and $6m respectively. How do we get that?Linsley and Warford? I can get behind that.
Oh I don’t know maybe the whole dumping Goff for Stafford thing. At this point in the franchise, what makes you think they won't bring out the same OL? I'm half expecting no change in the O Line and McVay saying 1 of two things when it doesn't work out:

If you get a good pass blocking center it will elevate the level of play of the guards to some degree. But I agree, Corbett is disappointing in pass blocking as well as Rob. But those two can do some grading in the run game. I don't know how PFF figures their grades, but from the eye test Blythe looked to be the worst of them.
Just curious, because I personally dont buy in to Pfft, but what was the Rams "rating" for pass blocking as a team?Someone posted the PFF pass blocking stats.
Pass Blocking
26th Blythe
31st Edwards
41st Corbett
9th Whitworth
43rd Hav
3 guys that are a total liability. Big changes needed there if we want Stafford to shine.
Just curious, because I personally dont buy in to Pfft, but what was the Rams "rating" for pass blocking as a team?
If they're gonna go all in, then go all in.
Max restructure AD, Ramsey, Woods and Kupp. Extend Stafford to afford more cap relief this year.
Get BOTH Warford and Linsley.
Don't fuck around. Get the best guys and get ready to rock.
We're not on a half in path.
I not only push all the chips in, I grab the chip from my sock as well... the cab money chip...
Cuz freak it... at this rate it's a limo home or it's walkin...
Any Breaking Bad fans here? This is why I'd go all in on Corey Linsley and Larry Warford.
Why fart around. Are we all in or not?
Hell no! If we are going all in, let's go all in! No time for pissing in the wind at a position as glaring of a need as C. It's time to fix it now. Stafford won't have great success if he's compensating for a bull rush all the time. And opposing teams will ping that weak spot in the armor incessantly. Restructure whoever, whatever, however you've got to to get it done now. Otherwise, you're picking a gun fight when all you have is a butter knife. We can't go into this next season with the same OL that will stunt Stafford like it did Goff. Granted, Stafford has the tools to overcome some of that that Goff maybe didn't but at what cost to his game? GO RAMS!!!!!I sorry guys & gals I simply can't pretend anymore I forgot how to at my age. The reality is there are no funds for an overpriced UFA center.
Go into OTA's with a plan on finding out which of your 10 contracted OL'ers can be your best starting & best back up center for the type of OL blocking schemes that McVay will want to implement with his new QB in 2021.
Meanwhile, Snead will have his new Draft Management & College Scouting team do their homework fully on all the College centers & consider drafting your future starting center.
Most likely prospects:
Brian Allen> 26-4, 6-1/305 Was Kromer starting OC in 2019 season started 6 gms before the injury
Austin Corbett> 26-4, 6-4/ 311 started @ both OG post for the Rams & Browns
Coleman Shelton> 26-4, 6-5/300 versatile OL'er with mega starts in College mostly @ OC.
Tremayne Anchrum 23/2, 6-2/315 another versatile OL'er who started only RT in college.
