It's an exaggeration but I'm sure it's happened on some level of football. Irs possible, that's the point.

Other players could have played better, but IMO Pharaoh Cooper is THE reason we lost the Falcons playoff game a few years ago.

Same way I felt Goff was the reason we lost to the Dolphins and Niners
It wouldn't be because our receivers dropped about 8 passes or after brockers got injured we couldn't stop the run or maybe that linebacker missed a big tackle in the backfield on the running back on 3rd down. Nope it was all on pharaoh cooper. Cooper didn't get us started on the right foot, but we had the whole game to get those points back. Similar to the Saints having plenty of chances to win the NFC Championship after the PI, as many of us say. It wasn't just the PI call that lost the game for saints.

Well, the Falcons only had 119 yards at halftime but had 13 points. They got 10 points on 38 total yards on those two turnovers. Take those away and we're up 10-3 at halftime.

But that is just one half - just because we have the lead at half doesn't meant we will win. Oh wait...

I disagree I think the game of football is way too much of a team game for one individual to win or lose a game by themselves but agree to disagree.

what about as I mentioned us having such limited knowledge on what is supposed to happen on any given play? For example what if a qb has 3 pick sixes all because of receivers running the wrong routes? (Completely hypothetical) would you feel confident enough in your analysis to blame the qb or would you just read the box score and watch the highlights and say the qb lost the game?

There are different kinds of interceptions. Some are clearly great plays by the defense. Troy Hill had a great one against the Cards. Then you have a ball thrown at a Defensive lineman because the QB was rushing to throw to his check down and he and the RB were not on the same page. Throwing it into the ground at the rbs feet is safer if he's in that much traffic and not looking. Sometimes we see a QB throw off balance and float a pass. It may work for a Mahomes but its a dangerous pass best thrown to the sideline or to be taken as a sack.

Whomever contacts the ball can blow or even throw a game. QBs touch it on every play. We've seen Miami destroy the Niners because of a practice squad db named Brian Allen. Fitzpatrick threw his way the entire game and ate his lunch.

Any weak link or a player having a bad game can lose it by themselves if they are the last line of defense or a QB, RB, or even an Olineman that is constantly getting beat and your QB is getting sacked multiple times.

But you aren't required to agree.

What's right about Goff? Everything. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Love the guy, love the coaches and love the team he plays for. Go Rams. Beat those Patriots this time around!

From McVay's December 7th Press Conference:

On expectations from Goff over the last four games of the season

“I think consistency is the biggest thing. I know it's like a broken record, but it is the truth. If he plays like he did yesterday, that's indicative of really good quarterback play, exactly what we're looking for. I thought he got through progressions really well. There's a lot of things too, that don't show up on the stats for him that I think are a real reflection of playing well, and that's managing the run game. Some of the things where we were able to get some clean looks were a reflection of his command at the line of scrimmage and a lot of the things that we're looking for. So, there's so much that goes on from a mental perspective. I thought physically threw the football really well. I thought he made some accurate throws. I mean, I know it only goes down as a 13-yard completion, but that throw and catch between he and Cooper with Patrick Peterson covering them in man coverage is about as high level of execution, just a good football play overall from offense and defense in terms of the level of competitiveness. But same thing that you saw from him yesterday. I want to just see him be able to consistently handle that. The things that we ask of him change by the week based on what the defense presents them. We know this is going to be a unit that applies pressure and being able to handle some of those different things is going to be critical for us. Confident that we've got to do a great job putting together a plan and then him digesting it and making it come to life on Thursday night will be something that is going to be a big part of how we handle this game and what ends up occurring as far as the result.”

This has been Mcvay's Mantra since he got here. He's always used the word consistency when talking about players. Especially offensive players or the offense in general. He also defers to execution when things go bad or the offense doesn't perform. Break down any game and there are so many missed blocks or wrong routes etc. In my mind Mcvay is a big believer that we have the players and scheme to win any game but being consistent with the execution is the only thing required. He's probably right. He always acknowledges the responsibility of him (gameplan etc), Goff (executing it) and all the players doing their part. That is what he is talking about in the last sentence of your quote above in my opinion. It's really a comprehensive Rams effort of coaches and all players in order to win games. It's a great perspective to cast on a organization as it calls each person to take responsibility for their part in the success or failure.

.

i just watched a video previewing the rams/cards game where nick wright, aka rugman, said the murray is a way better qb than goff.

haha, man that guy hates goff. i think it's jealousy. he sees the girlfriend, he looks at all the money goff makes, then he looks in the mirror at his rug and asks why didn't it happen for him.

The highlighted part really stands out to me, especially since McVay calls it out. I think if Goff is managing the run game well, usually the runner gets the glory on the play. I would be curious to understand which specific plays McVay is referring to, and what Goff saw and recognized to help make the play successful. Regardless, it's nice to hear from a knowledgeable source about this kind of progress.

I'm not sure how Goff "lost the 49ers game" when the Rams had a 3 point lead, late in the 4th Q, the 49ers were playing their 3rd string QB and yet they were able to drive the length of the field twice for the tying and winning FG.

And to hear the media tell it, is was the same beatdown that NE gave the Chargers. :gtfo:

Goff and Mcvay now have 42 wins together. This duo is special and they will grow together and get better and better. We're very lucky as fans to have these guys leading our Rams. Well I feel that way atleast.

Goff did what he had to do. I see a little fire in his eyes the last 2 games.
